Just for sat night chat, what job do you think holds the biggest kudos? I think probably a medical consultant or barrister... what do you think...

Bloomingmagnolia · 14/10/2023 20:54

Professional philosopher

Emmalin · 14/10/2023 20:55

Rocket scientist.

Worriedmum159 · 14/10/2023 20:55

muddyford · 14/10/2023 20:50

Commandant General Royal Marines.

That’s an honorary title so doesn’t count surely.

Giggorata · 14/10/2023 20:55

IrmaBunt · 14/10/2023 20:51

Astronomer Royal.

Poet Laureat

Yes, these.
also King.

Meadowdog · 14/10/2023 20:55

Surgeon. And I once met a Nuclear Inspector and found that impressive.

16HamstersCalledThemAllDave · 14/10/2023 20:55

Barrister

Surgeon

Astrophysicist

Anyone can be CEO/CFO/COO of their own company - whatever the size of the company

CornishClott · 14/10/2023 20:56

I meant forensic cleaners , the ones who clean up blood, gore and human waste

PeggyPiglet · 14/10/2023 20:56

A commercial pilot.

My mind is very much blown trying to learn how to fly and land a tiny plane, never mind a massive airliner.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/10/2023 20:56

Paediatric Heart Surgeon.

TheFireflies · 14/10/2023 20:57

Neurosurgeon.

I’ve met too many barristers and judges to say those jobs! I suspect if I knew some neurosurgeons I’d change my mind there, too.

KeeefBurtain · 14/10/2023 20:57

Santa

writingsonthewall · 14/10/2023 20:57

I also think

Geophysicist
Astrophysicist
Biophysicist

All sound like impossibly clever

writingsonthewall · 14/10/2023 20:58

Or yes, neurosurgeon

AllTheWeatherAllTheTime · 14/10/2023 20:58

My geologist husband once worked with an academic whose title was Head of Earth and Planets. That one's pretty hard to beat!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 14/10/2023 20:59

Surgeon is impressive to me
RAF Pilot
Barrister

I get confused with Chief Executive, Chief medical officer, chief nurse, Chief Finance officer, Lead this and that. We have all of those in my NHS Trust, I struggle with figuring out who is actually at the top and always want to know their pay grade as that tells me more than the titles🤪

writingsonthewall · 14/10/2023 20:59

CFO/coo/ceo do not impress me much <shakira>

I'm from the corporate world and I know they are blagging it like the rest of us

WonderingAboutThus · 14/10/2023 20:59

Pediatric surgeon

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 14/10/2023 20:59

Head of Tiger Welfare at a zoo.

Concert pianist.

writingsonthewall · 14/10/2023 21:00

Oh shit it was shania Twain wasn't it. Not shakira.

Lizzieregina · 14/10/2023 21:01

I know both a fighter pilot (his dad was one also and is now a commercial pilot) and an Astro physicist (who stays at my house sometimes, he’s really nice but obviously really clever).

I know people are always impressed with the fighter pilot.

In the US, we don’t have barristers, just lawyers who litigate and they’re two a penny, so not generally considered impressive.

My daughters friends’s dad is a neurosurgeon and I find that fascinating. It would have taken years and years of education and training.

jay55 · 14/10/2023 21:01

Prima ballerina. All those gazillions of kids who do baby ballet and just a handful get to the tippy top.

Knitgoodwoman · 14/10/2023 21:02

It’s funny I’m ex military so higher ranks don’t phase me. DH was a fighter pilot and now commercial, very humble guy.

My world now is surrounded by CEOs, I myself am one, so I’m not impressed there. But I’m seriously impressed by medical consultants. Also impressed by bankers who know their way around that world.

I think we’re more impressed by the things we don’t know!

SM4713 · 14/10/2023 21:03

The problem is, that if you actually say your correct job title, majority of people have no idea what you do!
eg:
I'm a consultant neurologist. 'huh?'🤔I'm a brain surgeon! 'Ahh ok then' 😄
