The trouble as I see it is that Hamas wants an Islamic state. And Israel wants a Jewish state. I freely acknowledge that Hamas are fanatical terrorists.

I'm sure there's a lot more to it, but both notions seem problematic to me. I've always been bothered by the idea of the Jewish people being God's chosen people. And having a term for non -Jews. I appreciate this is a simplistic understanding but it feels well, exclusionary.

I have no faith, but support other people in their religious practices as far as possible. I tell other faithless people off if they're being disrespectful about religious practices. But claiming land as a god-given right has always instinctively bothered me. And it seems very convenient for Europe and America that the promised land isn't part of Europe or America.

Not all Jewish people are zionists. Apparently some Orthodox Jews are not in favour of the state of Israel.

But the current state has been occupied by European Jews for a couple of generations now. So it's just all a huge mess.

Thank you for that. It’s pretty much what my friends said to me.

There's a really interesting thread about British Jewish voting .

Bone loses the Conservative whip

Too little too late. He should have had it removed at the first sniff of rot.

IClaudine · 17/10/2023 17:23

Good. Odious toad.

Good. Odious toad.

Don't be mean to toads. Toads are lovely and have beautiful eyes.

newnamethanks · 17/10/2023 18:05

That can't happen MrTiddles, there'd be nobody left and this bunch of grasping, deceitful charlatans is going to hang on to the last gasp.

Oh, you are right. I apologise to all toads for the offensive comparison!

BIossomtoes · 17/10/2023 18:34

Not before time, Bone’s an odious waste of oxygen.

From the S*n

Tory candidate Festus Akinbusoye is facing questions over whether he's taken paid leave from his taxpayer funded PCC role to campaign to win Mid-Beds. His team have declined to comment on whether leave taken to campaign was paid or unpaid
Labour estimates Mr Akinbusoye could’ve raked in £20,000 of his salary across more than 90 days spent vying for votes.

The figures were put to the Conservative Party who chose not to comment.

Massively tense and very awkward interview between Sarah -Jane Mee and an Israeli minister just now on Sky. She went for him.

Piggywaspushed · 17/10/2023 21:25

That's been known about Festus for ages but I don't think many voters hear this or care much. He has also declared several companies bankrupt and his divorce looks to have been very unpleasant. But hey ho.

Not sure when toe good people of Mid Beds, as Nadine called them, will realise charisma and a love of the camera is a dangerous thing in an MP.

Piggywaspushed · 17/10/2023 21:27

Healthcare access is a huge issue in the constituency :

Not another Jamie Wallis type?🤦‍♀️. Anyone would think they are actively trying to lose!

InMySpareTime · 18/10/2023 07:30

Perhaps their logic is that the more seats they lose in by-elections before the general election, the less they have left to lose then?
Trying to make it look like less of a devastating defeat in a year's time?

DuncinToffee · 18/10/2023 08:56

Latest prediction for Mid Beds (other I have seen are similar)

x.com/patrickjfl/status/1714370842417619413?s=20

This is what my by-election model produces for Mid Bedfordshire atm:

Votes
CON: 32% (-28)
LAB: 29% (+7)
LDM: 23% (+10)
GRN: 4% (-)

Win chance
CON: 43%
LAB: 33%
LDM: 23%
OTH: 1%

Conservatives could come through the middle on a low vote share if no Labour/Lib Dem co-operation.

Tamworth? Famous for a specific breed of 🐖. See the prospective Tory candidate is smugly personifying this.

This is why we need promotional representation. It's undemocratic to have someone take the seat despite the majority of voters choosing someone else.

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2023 13:59

I am really really struggling to imagine the Tory guy as an MP too. No gravitas , intellect or experience, other than as a not very good PCC.

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2023 14:00

Interestingly , a boy I teach said he was now not going to vote Labour because of Keir's words about Israeli actions.
