It all seems to be based on the LBC interview doesn't it?

Keir Starmer has today written to Labour councillors about the Israel-Gaza conflict. It comes after several councillors quit in protest over his stance on Israel's planned invasion of Gaza

WTF

Covid Inquiry

Hancock: "We frighten the pants of everyone with the new strain... but the complication with that Brexit is taking the top line."

No. 10 was so focussed on celebrating "independence day" and bigging up Brexit benefits, it was crowding out actual public health messaging. Wow.

Hancock wanting the pants off people. Who would have thought it?

I have taken to wondering what will happen if the Tories manage to retain mid-Bedfordshire (it looks like Tamworth is a lost cause). Could this embolden them to have a May GE?
Do we all need to start making noises about voting to Tory in the direction of CHQ in order to encourage such a move?

This was being talked about on Radio 4 today.

There aren't many constituencies where there is a Lib Dem / Labour equal challenge compared to Conservative.

So a Conservative win could give them false hope.

Jason118 · 18/10/2023 20:36

If they do retain Mid Beds, the swing against them will still be huge which will not fill them with anything but dread.

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2023 20:41

Well, I'll be at the polls 7am doing my bit , and proxy voting for DS2.

newnamethanks · 18/10/2023 21:07

The more false hope they feel, the more painful the loss. Couldn't be more deserved.

Keir Starmer has won the backing of Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock & one of world's most influential financiers

Fink told the Wall Street Journal that Starmer has shown 'real strength' in bringing Labour back to centre-ground of British politics

@DuncinToffee The Tories have been in the middle of a war for years now. A war with themselves.

LittleBowSheep · 19/10/2023 11:54

I may have missed something, but I don't recall Sunak having any plans to visit Israel until Biden announced his visit.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2023 12:04

Not sure why he is there, probably safer for him than Mid Beds or Tamworth?

Unlike Biden, he didn't invite any reporters along on the trip

BBC reporting that Sunak has told Netanyahu "We want you to win".

I bet the Palestinian civilians are delighted.

Efacsen · 19/10/2023 13:02

It gives him something to do - not governing is a bit boring - plus nice photo ops

It's been a bit showery over recent days but otherwise lovely weather

They love a good-going war to expound on - as do their voters

IClaudine · 19/10/2023 13:06

Sunak looked so out of his depth today. In the meeting with Herzog, Herzog started criticising BBC coverage of the conflict. I am no fan of the BBC in a lot of ways, but it is trying to be balanced in its reporting, I think. Sunak just nodded along like a good doggie. No insult to doggies intended.

So much then for pushing for a ceasefire or 'working for a peaceful solution' as Tugendhat put it this morning.

Indeed. I also feel for the hostages. How is there any hope for them?

Which is just another lie anyway

UK and France have spent the last week sabotaging the UN resolution because they didn't want the word ceasefire in it

newnamethanks · 19/10/2023 13:25

All those air miles just for a D Mail front page which now will feature grinning Rishi and not the 'disappointing' by election results. It's a 'Win for Rishi'.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2023 13:30

I missed this yesterday but Harriet Harman was elected as new chair of the House of Commons standards committee.

OP posts:
newnamethanks · 19/10/2023 13:36

Poor Harriet. She'll need a very large shovel and will be sure to employ it usefully.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/10/2023 13:37

Sunak isn't smart enough to be involving himself in the current crisis. He needs to stay out of it and let the grown ups try to find a solution.

Zonder · 19/10/2023 12:55

That surely depends on what he means by win.

I am of the view that no one is going to win until both sides accept the others right to exist and they take steps to negotiate a peaceful settlement where all can prosper.

Hamas will not win by massacaring Israeli civilians and behaving in an utterly abhorrent way.
Israel will not win by bombing Hamas and anyone who happens to live nearby in one of the most densely populated places on earth, as that just creates more young men with a grievance.
