No. 10 apparently has full confidence in Braverman...

That is usually the kiss of death, isn't it?

@Notonthestairs that would be wonderful.

About to be sacked then.

I’ll be delirious with joy when Sunak finally announces the election date. I’m still optimistic about May, I don’t think he’ll want yet another dire set of local election results.

Tents might be back on again. The King has barely got home again before one of the few bills in his speech is put on hold.

Meanwhile, this Govt gives tents to some prisoners on release if they don’t have anywhere to live.

You really couldn’t make this stuff up, could you? It’s even the same department. 😂

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/11/2023 19:20

I’m not sure you can expect joined up thinking from this government. They seem to be at war with each other.

The most ridiculous thing I had initially missed in the whole plan was the idea of fining the people in the tents...

It was the bit that got me.

Fining homeless people with no jobs or income for living in a tent and not under the elements.

Just another waste of tax payers money going after the most vulnerable in society.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/11/2023 19:36

It almost makes fining charities giving out tents look sane. (Quick note to Tories: fining charities for doing good works is never going to look good.)

That week in Tory contains a complete list of all the Tory MPs implicated in various acts of sexual misconduct. I had forgotten about one or two of them.

Presumably Serco or some other of their donors will get the contract to chase the unpaid fines, then miss their key performance targets as usual and nothing will be done.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2023 19:53

The recall petition opens in Tory MP Peter Bone’s seat tomorrow

It's nothing new, they have been doing it for years.

A compilation of some of the times Boris Johnson and allies like Therese Coffey, Michael Gove, and Ben Wallace, denied he ever said “let the bodies pile high”, that he could ever say such a thing and went on the attack, gaslighting an entire nation.

You may want to share it. ~AA

So just like with Mone - they deny and lie and hope it goes away.

Charles doesn't look very convinced reading out his speech

I've only just caught up with this on the news. I must say my first reaction was that there were distinct undertones in his voice of "If you believe this bollocks, you'll believe anything" - even when he was talking about things that should have appealed to him, like initiatives supposedly intended to achieve net zero

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2023 08:19

Did anyone catch the story a couple of days ago about the government being called out for altering/manipulating statistics? I'd be v grateful for a link if so! I thought you lot might be my go to!

Just sharing this because I thought it was interesting and reveals the jockeying for position in the Tory party currently.

I am confused by the statement that Braverman's comments "may" be part of a leadership campaign.
I didn't think that was in doubt?

itsgettingweird · 08/11/2023 17:13

On her FB page with regards her placing a poppy on behalf of the town there are 331 comments.

Not many positive ones.

My favourite.

Paraphrased "ignore the lefties twisting your words"

Best response.

"No - she's really that much of a cunt" 🤣🤣

Notonthestairs · 08/11/2023 20:03

Has Rishi Sunak given up on his elective waiting list pledge? NHS has been told to raid budgets to fill funding gap caused by strikes. NHS leaders told to "reset" plans on waiting lists with no new money. By @HMAnderson39 hsj.co.uk/finance-and-ef…

This will ultimately mean some people will wait longer for their operations and treatment than the NHS had hoped and planned at the start of the financial year" - @sallygainsbury

They'd rather keep paying out to agencies for temporary staff than talk to the BMA.

SAS doctors ballot is open at the moment. There is a real risk things will get even worse.

DuncinToffee · 09/11/2023 08:40

It feels like partygate all over again with Tories trying to defend the indefensible.

"I am confused by the statement that Braverman's comments "may" be part of a leadership campaign.

Ah no, what I meant was her desire to put clear water between her brand and that of Cleverly's, Badenoch's or Mordaunt's - it's not just Braverman jockeying for the next leadership role. The party is being pulled between multiple internal campaigns and no doubt promises of jobs/power after the next election.

Meanwhile the Times are reporting -

"Several fringe far-right groups have called for their supporters to stage a counterprotest in London to ensure “respect is shown” to the Cenotaph.

The six groups organising Saturday’s pro-Palestinian march have insisted they will not go near the monument.

Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League, has urged “young English men” to travel to London. The Democratic Football Lads Alliance, a network of football supporters associated with the far-right, has also asked followers to travel to the capital this weekend to counter an apparent “threat from the far left and pro-Palestine supporters”.

Looks like the police's job is going to be very difficult this weekend.
