Who is the person questioning, does anyone know? He's good. And obviously working hard at reining in Cummings whilst drilling down for answers

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 14:06

Hugo Keith, he was very good yesterday as well.

Andrew O'Connor questioned Cain

Cummings likes to criticise without actually doing anything about it.

Interested to know why govt doing this? What are their motivations?

pointythings · 31/10/2023 15:02

@tobee from what I've read, the closure initiative came from the government in the first place, so that they could reduce the subsidies paid to rail companies. This is why the rail companies are now so angry, they feel they've been stabbed in the back.

The government are U-turning because they have felt the weight of public opinion and they know that this is a bad idea which will hit their voter base hardest.

Look at at all the armchair experts on this thread saying their hero was right

I explain what' average life expectancy' means to my A level students. They seem to grasp it better than the giant thicko twat.

Interesting. Thank you.

Seems a bit desperate in terms of issue for voter base.

Personally, I'm in favour of keeping ticket offices as many as possible.

Roussette · 31/10/2023 15:26

Cummings is slippery. He will say absolutely anything to wriggle out of responsibility for anything.
Not me not me not me.

The bit that most struck me from reading the summaries from today was Cain saying that Boris Johnson was more interested in taking advice from The Daily Telegraph over his advisors. The vehemently loud anti lockdown Daily Telegraph.

So often with these inquiries you find that what had seemed like wild rumours were factually correct and behaviour far worse.

This links in with Johnson's private chats with Lebedev.

PMs obviously schmooze media owners - but they aren't supposed to be led by them.

I agree, the KCs are excellent.

Cummings is so arrogant. He seems to think that he was the only person who was right. Total scum.

tobee · 31/10/2023 16:05

Cummings certainly aligning himself a lot with "Patrick"

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 16:07

Nobody in governement took Covid serious, it's like they thought the UK was immune being an island or something.

Don't mess with my holidays sense of entitlement

Dominic Cummings says in Feb 2020 the Covid pandemic was not seen by senior people across govt as an "imminent crisis" but a "distant problem" for the months ahead. He concedes it was "pretty insane" that many - incl the PM - disappeared for half-term hols.

He says he suggested that calling PM back from Chevening would be "counterproductive" rather than helpful.

"He would have said to everybody what he thought at the time, which was 'this is another swine flu. It's all another rubbish media hoax'.

And Sedwill compared it to chickenpox parties

"The advertising budget, which former Number 10 advisor Dominic Cummings described as “covid bungs”, funnelled hundreds of millions of subsidies in the form of Government advertising into a select group of newspapers. The Times reports that Boris Johnson “personally asked Alex Aitken, executive director for government communication, to ensure the Standard benefited from the agreements.”

& 3 months later they made Lebedev a peer.

Utterly corrupt.

Roussette · 31/10/2023 16:25

We could all see what was happening in Italy, why couldn't those in Government in control of all of this, see it too?

I think "he got all the big calls right" about Johnson will now sink into oblivion.

Cummings is just as responsible as the rest of them. He is trying to set himself up as the moral leader on all of this. Nah mate. We can all see through you, including the KC who is questioning you.

So Cummings is dissing Little Matty Hancock now. Surprise surprise. Just interestingly, nothing was on telly the other night and that idiot is in SAS celebrity (and I watched some of it) and my god he is annoying literally everyone in there. Very unlikeable and I think they are only keeping him in there to shout in his face like the SAS do. Grin

tobee · 31/10/2023 16:30

I tried to watch Celebrity SAS and just couldn't stomach it.

tobee · 31/10/2023 16:32

Stop fucking apologising for the fucking bad language.

Just as I type that Keith says cunt 😬

tobee · 31/10/2023 16:33

I only say that because I want to hear the questions and answers properly

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2023 16:35

The language and sentiment in these WhatsApps is so very troubling.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 16:38

Hugo Keith, "You say Matt Hancock is unfit for the job, the incompetence, the constant lies, still no f*cking serious testing in care homes, his uselessness is still killing God knows how many.. Was it around this time Hancock said we threw a protective ring around our care homes?

Dominic Cummings, "Yes"

Just feel so down that no one is going face any sanction. And I didn't have anyone close die of Covid.

Not even feel like lessons will be learned.

And then when you juxtapose all this with the parties they had.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 16:44

tobee · 31/10/2023 16:30
