This is it :

"It was the wrong crisis for this prime minister's skill set," Cain replies, at which point Baroness Heather Hallett asks him to use "straight-forward English".
"I felt it was the wrong challenge for him mostly," Cain says.

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:09

Here is the actual script of the wrong skills set part. Honestly... it's like talking about a child when talking about Johnson

Cain says Covid was 'wrong crisis' for Johnson given his skill setO’Connor asked Cain if he agreed with Cummings that Johnson was not up to the job of being prime minister.
Cain said:
I think that’s quite a strong thing to say. I think what will probably be clear in Covid, it was the wrong crisis for this prime minister’s skill set. Which is different I think from not potentially being up for the job of prime minister.Hallett complained about the term “skill set”, urging Cain to speak in plain English.
Explaining what he meant, Cain said:
I think he’s somebody who would often delay making decisions.

He would often seek counsel from multiple sources and change his mind on issues.

Sometimes in politics that can be a great strength – I think if you look at how he navigated Brexit, he allowed others to make decisions and jumped in last minute and can take political advantage.

I think if you look at something like Covid you need quick decisions and you need people to hold the course and have the strength of mind to do that over a sustained period of time and not constantly unpick things.

That’s where the problems lie, so I felt it was the wrong challenge for him mostly.

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:10

And Cain says Johnson will take decisions on what's said by the last person in the room.

WTAF!!!!

Where do you get the transcript from Roussette?

OMG, the stuff about letting the old people die.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 12:22

Cummings turn now

Sorry meant to say... it is at 11.03 now on that feed Dunc . It was on the header but that is now taken over by something else.

Cummings does gabble doesn't he. He's been asked to slow down three times so far. He's very fired up and obviously will not let any mud stick on him... that's my take anyway

The Guardian blog is more detailed than the BBC one, thanks.

And the BBC coverage was better than Sky (with its constant apologies for swearing.) But it's stopped and BBC2 is now the Politics show, so Sky it has to be

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 12:35

There is this one as well SoMuchSimpler

Hahaha Cummings is saying 'all the wrong people in the wrong jobs. Incredibly bloated, Bad management. No one knew who was in charge of what'.
And he is including the Cabinet office being in the wrong jobs.

IClaudine · 31/10/2023 12:38

Bloody hell, Cummings likes to ramble. Get to the point, man!

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:38

He does slow up when he is about to stick the knife in.

IClaudine · 31/10/2023 12:44

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:38

He does slow up when he is about to stick the knife in.

True. He relishes the moment! I guess he has been waiting a long time to get revenge.

I wonder what he does for a living at the moment, apart from rambling on Substack?

LittleBowSheep · 31/10/2023 12:49

Are any of the channels live streaming the inquiry with subtitles? I'm in a public place just now with no headphones.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 12:50

I think you can get subtitles on youtube

OP posts:
Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:51

@LittleBowSheep
Sky is showing it with a side bar of not much I'm afraid, but their bottom ticker comes up with relevant bits.

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:51

Cummings hasn't changed has he.. ! He is so full of himself.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 12:58

Roussette · 31/10/2023 12:51

Cummings hasn't changed has he.. ! He is so full of himself.

I assume he doesn't consider himself the wrong man for the job

OP posts:
Roussette · 31/10/2023 13:00

He was actually asked that! And he did say he was!

I just find his patronising supercilious manner so irritating even if he might be right!

LittleBowSheep · 31/10/2023 13:03

If anyone else wants to watch it with subtitles, if the channel has them available it will have CC in a box on the screen, click on that and subtitles appear.

tobee · 31/10/2023 13:36

The bit that most struck me from reading the summaries from today was Cain saying that Boris Johnson was more interested in taking advice from The Daily Telegraph over his advisors. The vehemently loud anti lockdown Daily Telegraph.

So often with these inquiries you find that what had seemed like wild rumours were factually correct and behaviour far worse.
