Surely its getting to the point where there needs to be a vote of no confidence in the government.
It would be ridiculous of them to change leader again

Cheguevarahamster · 22/10/2023 09:07

@AdamRyan "It would be ridiculous of them to change leader again"

Ridiculous? These are Tories we are talking about.🤔

Remember when Rishi Sunak told the Covid inquiry he did “not have access” to his whatsapp messages from his time running the Treasury because he had changed his phone several times and failed to back them up?

Well @MrHarryCole is reporting today that the mobile number that he used for many years, including his time as Chancellor, appears to still be in operation

The thing is, Rishi had to replace his physical phone with the whatsapp messages on it because he left it in the toilet somewhere. He was though allowed by EE to keep the same phone number so didn't need to tell his friends he had changed phones.

I totally despair at the bbc reporting on this. No mention at all on the politics page, and in fact the second story is "Love Island star had talks on becoming Labour MP". It feels like the beeb has been gagged.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2023 14:39

Surely misleading an Inquiry is an offence?

No, no, its all an inadverdent misunderstanding.

He had to change his physical phone due to an unfortunate mishap with a glass of fizzy pop. So he did get a new phone, how was he suppossed to know that the nice man in the 3 shop let him keep the same number. I mean its not like you ever dial your own phone is it? Be realistic this is an adult who doesn't know how to use a petrol pump.

If you e listened to BBC R4 recently you wouldn't be surprised if they had been.

Tory MP after Tory MP making veiled accusations every interview. Not so subtle threats. It's really uncomfortable to listen to.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2023 16:39

"It feels like the beeb has been gagged."

Tim Davie going in to talk to 1922 committee this week is very bloody odd.

This in spades, this government really is a cess pit of corruption.

Simon Case, who said the Government looked like a "terrible tragic joke" over Covid, and was due before the Inquiry within the next couple of weeks, has now taken medical leave for an "unspecified period".

That’s a very well timed illness.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2023 20:18

Oh, I hadn't cottoned on that he was due to give evidence.

pointythings · 22/10/2023 21:35

Oh so convenient... I hope someone is logging all the lies and evasions and is ready to publish them during an election campaign.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/22/tory-donors-anthony-mark-bamford-jcb-empire-could-face-500m-bill-to-settle-tax-inquiry

"The Bamfords have been among the most influential donors to the Tory party in recent years, with close relationships with several former prime ministers, including Liz Truss, David Cameron – who made Bamford a peer – and Boris Johnson.
The family’s gifts and donations total more than £10m over the past 20 years. Johnson has close links with Bamford in particular, with the peer funding his wedding to his latest wife, Carrie, including South African-themed food and a marquee on the lawn of his Daylesford estate in the Cotswolds."
What drew you to funding the Prime Minister's wedding whilst you were being investigated by HMRC for "aggressively minimising your tax payments for 20 years"?

It is very important that we are nice to the rich, otherwise they might move to another country and not pay their taxes here.

Oh wait...

Suggestions I saw were to the effect that Braverman would get the gig. Surely that would be the absolute and final death knell for the Conservative Party? The only compensation would be watching the hard right's brains implode at the thought of supporting an non-Aryan woman.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2023 08:53

Rwanda is back in the news, apparently a date is set for the first deportation flight.

Desperation.

The Government’s plan to solve the small boats problem by flying migrants to Rwanda is falling apart, according to Home Secretary Suella Bravermans own officials who say the “absurd” scheme “might well not materialise”.
They spoke of chaos within the Home Office as civil servants struggle to meet a January deadline for the scheme to begin, with doubts over whether the new staff needed will be in place.

Try and keep a straight face. Suella’s going to the Met to ask them to crack down on hate speech. Not hers obviously.

This is the trouble with the UK. Too many tofu eating leftie wokerati civil servants who do not know who is in charge. If the minister says something should happen, do they not realise it is their job to make it happen, not get in the way of things happening by using logic, facts and obeying the law as excuses.

countrygirl99 · 23/10/2023 09:29

@DuncinToffee a family member used to work for an LA in a very agricultural area. She was on call emergency housing contact for a bit of extra cash. It was nearly always for people found in a modern slavery raid.
