I am not keen to post this on the other thread but two of the younger voters (both female) on last night's local news specifically said they voted Labour because they did not like what Rishi says about trans people (bit harsh to single lukewarm Rishi out!) . Worth some posters accepting the most of the young emphatically do not think as they think on this issue.
There are also many basic misunderstandings of the nature of mid Beds and its constituents.

This is very sinister. DoE monitoring the social media output of all employees and keeping files on those who share any anti-government sentiment. How much money is being syphoned out of actual education to pay for this surveillance?

But I thought the Tories rage against Cancel Culture??!

He's the gift that keeps giving. I didn't think he could be funnier than the Cummings episode but he proves me wrong weekly!

I was crying with laughter at the three of them with the bagpipes. Never thought I'd see Ian Hislop attempting Scottish dancing on TV!

This is true. My teens and their mates don't agree with Rishi on this.

I teach fairly hippy dippy subjects to be fair but none of them do.

Only if it's people who agree with them being cancelled.
Just like the Free Speech Union.

BIossomtoes · 21/10/2023 13:32

I suspect that every middle aged female voter Labour’s lost on the trans issue has been replaced with a number of new voters in the 18-24 age group.

Hope you’re feeling better @Notonthestairs, I completely missed the by-elections with the nastiest stomach upset I’ve ever had. Loving that thread, they’re really struggling, aren’t they?

dontcallmelen · 21/10/2023 13:43

Hope you are both feeling better, I had the same thing was bloody awful you have my sympathy.

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2023 14:29

Thanks Blossom and melon. It's pretty unpleasant isn't it and we all still feel wiped out.

We put deep pile carpet in DD's (ASD) room to help sound proof it a little. Really regretted that this week! 🤮

A snippet of Bill Bailey and his bagpipes from HIGNFY.

We had a similar bug here last weekend and still not completely recovered. I do wonder if it was covid despite testing negative, muscle ache was quite similar to the first covid jab after effects.

Hope everyone feels better soon

That is so funny, thank you for posting it ❤

pointythings · 21/10/2023 16:40

That was some impressive bagpipe playing, I wouldn't be able to get any sound out at all.

Jeremy Hunt expected to quit as MP before next election, according to senior Tories, who say chancellor is aware he could suffer a “Michael Portillo” moment on polling day

The Chancellor doesn't want to put his record to the public.
What does that tell us?

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/10/2023 20:08

At least we know where the Tory party stands on Trans issues now. When was the last time Tory MPs and Ministers threatened revolt and resignations for Women's Rights?

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2023 20:59

I genuinely don't understand why introducing buffer zones around abortion clinics would be controversial in this country.

It already has support in the HoC.

If Braverman is holding up it to curry favour - be it with Cates, Kruger and gang or (more likely in my uninformed opinion) with US right wing think tanks 💰- that is reprehensible.

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2023 21:06

PM told me at conference a GE is ‘not what the country wants’

Via @ShippersUnbound in @thetimes > On Monday More in Common will release a poll showing voters now want an early GE - 73% say shld be b4 end of May, while 18 % say this year. Only 15% want to wait until next autumn

x.com/bethrigby/status/1715811061767549301?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

As I have said before I don't like GEs! I think it is dead time. But given we are already in dead time I'd be in favour of having one immediately!

ahem, latest twist

https://x.com/PaulBrandITV/status/1715825764942123330?s=20

Latest reports that PM will drop conversion therapy ban follow intense lobbying by @miriam_cates who wrote to Tory MPs:

“This Bill will anger our base, split the party and effectively put a Stonewall charter into law. We have a matter of days to persuade No 10 to pull it.”

Who's reporting he's dropping it? The link just says Cates & others(?) are "hoping" to meet with him.

Presumably they'll say they will write their letters of no confidence unless he bins it.
The question is which of his 7 bins he will put it in.
(I note that the 7 bin policy that was scrapped has made a mysterious comeback in the form of mandating what councils have to recycle).
