Does anyone else get Enoch Powell vibes? Makes me shiver....

Chattygirl123 · 09/11/2023 12:56

She's managed to offend both sides of the divide in Northern Ireland which is a special type of talent

hamstersarse · 09/11/2023 12:56

What is it exactly that she has said that is so horrifying to people on this thread?

And why does that horrify you?

If you have to ask, you won't understand.

It is blindingly obvious to most reasonable people.

hamstersarse · 09/11/2023 12:58

I’d like to hear why it horrifies you so much @MrsBennetsPoorNerves

Genuinely

Her fascist tendencies. Her deliberate attempts to create division and stoke tensions. Her complete ignorance about the subjects that she chooses to talk about.

Shall I continue?

bombastix · 09/11/2023 13:05

He won't sack her. He needs her to carry the can for Rwanda and small boats. Because that is coming next week.

IClaudine · 09/11/2023 13:06

Crikeyalmighty · 09/11/2023 12:43

@IClaudine oh I disagree- the only ones left in membership are headbangers.

That's sort of my point. Racist headbangers who will never vote for a person of colour to be leader. I honestly believe Sunak would not have won a membership vote for this reason.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/11/2023 13:07

People seem to forget she's been sacked from the post of Home Secretary once already. Beggars belief she just walked straight back into the job days later, but as we've seen, Sunak's "reset" and house-cleaning has entirely failed to materialise, so 💩

So perhaps if she's sacked this week, she'll be back again in a week or two?!

Rwanda and all the other hideous policies aside, can you not see she is deliberately stirring up tension and discord? Her language is intemperate and inflammatory. Even No. 10 is not backing what she wrote in the Times.

SerendipityJane · 09/11/2023 13:11

Enoch Powell - wrong as he was - was more intelligent than the entire cabinet put together. His arguments were like a symphony compared to the dissonant warbling of Braverman.

If you are Rishi Sunak and you have already signed off on Rwanda on her say so, why would you get rid of her? That is going to be the biggest legal shit show going. No, she's going to resign or going down with the ship. He has no one else in his party who is prepared to go as far as her.

hamstersarse · 09/11/2023 13:13

But none of this is specific - what exactly about what she has said is horrifying?

Flapjacker48 · 09/11/2023 13:13

An airhead and dangerous with it.

hotpotlover · 09/11/2023 13:17

This is only a small part of it, but I live in NI so it's the bit that stood out to me. WTF is she referring to as hate marches in NI?

The video linked in this tweetdiscusses it well. https://twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1722515065310511462

But this is merely the tip of a very large, dangerous iceberg.

watchingtheworldwithwoe · 09/11/2023 13:19

@IClaudine the words she uses are not 'brave' as I've worryingly heard her described by some. They are deliberately chosen to incite hatred by planting lots of tiny seeds, clever imagery and emotive words/examples. e.g the video relating to her visit to Vienna

Flapjacker48 · 09/11/2023 13:20

People who support this idiot - do you really want a police force to act on the ditect instructions of the home sec or PM depending on their views this week? As the met commissioner says if politicians believe the law should be changed then do that correctly in parliament.

Braverman (ironically) seems to want to police the UK in the way it was done in British colonies.

Are you able to read the news?

If you don't know what she has said, then go away and research it.

If you do know what she has said and can't see any problem with it, frankly I can't be arsed wasting my time explaining it to you because it's already pretty obvious to anyone who doesn't share her abhorrent views.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/11/2023 13:22

She speaks the same language as Oswald Mosely, Nick Griffin, Tommy Robinson and other British far right agitators. She is more representative of the EDL than the traditional conservative party.

The most racially diverse cabinet in history has the most racist policies I have ever seen. Amazing really

Indeed, I have found what comes out if her mouth to be absolutely incredible given her background. And Rishi Sunak just lets her get on with it.

I am completely politically homeless.

She is one of those people in the Conservatives who has an idea that British identity is all to do with empire and it's attitudes. She is not the only one like this but she is the loudest. Your comment is insightful.

All of this was pretty much predicted by a commentator 6 months ago. ("A Different Bias"). He said that she'd have to start her leadership campaign early, but time it so that the actual vote is from the diminished parliamentary party (so say 150 even more extreme MPs than now) rather than the more problematic 350+ at the moment.

There wasn't quite a calendar, but the timings are spot on.

Gone by Xmas, with all of 2024 to snipe from the sidelines with a chorus of "If we'd done it my way" building to a shoe-in the day after the election.

A strategy that benefits from every day man-of-action Rish! delays the general election. One can only presume he's already got his post political life sorted.
