What Brand did was abhorrent but there have been whispers about him being a thoroughly unpleasant man for many years. In his own autobiography he admits to, and details, vile things that he's said and done. We just didn't know the full extent of his behaviour, which turns out to be far worse than we all suspected.

You don't have to like Noel Fielding's humour. He's always had slightly quirky, offbeat humour that wasn't mainstream so I thought he was an odd pick for Bake Off. But anecdotally, he's always seemed like a nice person. There have never been any suggestions about lecherous behaviour and people who have met him in real life have always described him in positive terms. He often pops up on the "what nice celebrities have you met in real life" type threads.

I don't think there's anything to cancel him for. You don't have to like him, but that's not the same thing.

I've seen NF on lots of shows like Buzzcocks etc and he doesn't normally make rape jokes etc - that's just not his usual humour. His jokes are usually a bit weirder - think The Mighty Boosh, a show that he co-wrote.

But if he did make a rape joke when paired with Brand, I'm not going to cancel him based on that. Writing off a person on the basis of one joke seems excessive, imo. Also, it would be hypocritical of me because I like Jimmy Carr and his jokes are way darker/more offensive, and have definitely included rape jokes at one point.

I think with Brand, making rape jokes is more offensive given his general misogynistic attitude to women. It's like the difference between Chris Rock making a joke about black men, and Bernard Manning making a joke about black men. Chris Rock you know it's definitely 100% just a joke with no malice or ill-intent - whereas with Bernard Manning you know that it's probably a "joke" but also his true feelings. Brand falls into the latter category - making "jokes" that actually are nothing more than a statement of what he actually thinks.

Having said all of that, I'm not sure about Alison Hammond anyway so that might be the decider for me.

The whole Pixie and Noel thing was reported on quite extensively at the time, it's hardly news. It was dismissed by both of them as rumours. Unless Pixie comes out now with a different version of events then there really is nothing to see.

Wossy complains that the show have put the 'only sexually attractive woman near two cocksmen in the businss' (Noel and RB), and moves her so 'she can go home with her dress still on'.

Noel says 'we're not rapists'. RB says no link between cape and rape and if Noel hasn't done a rape then you've ruined his reputation. He then asks Noel 'have you done a rape?'

I stopped watching a few seasons ago. I really am not keen on Alison Hammond...I think she and Holly Willoughby(I know she's not presenting it) have shark eyes...when they think cameras not on them the mask drops...gives me the creeps. Also her fake laugh

I worked with a rapist. We hung out after work, went drinking. He was lovely, a kind and gentle guy who was so funny.

Except that he was a rapist and people were talking about it and I didn’t know. Someone told me about the allegations and even though I just couldn’t imagine it, I cut him out of my life because the suggestions were too much.

My point is, I didn’t know until I knew, even though we spent a lot of time together. Maybe Fielding had heard the rumours, but maybe Brand had unsuited the same sorts of things that he has to all his followers who blindly believe him. We can’t go around pointing fingers at everyone around a person assuming they knew. We hear about men serial rapists and their own family have no idea what’s going on.

However, I will say that I haven’t seen the footage of the rape jokes and for that, you are 100% correct.

I don't think they are not mocking rape. They are quite clearly saying they are NOT rapists as that is clearly a bad thing and would rather be called a serial killer and the jokes have come from that.

Are we cancelling jimmy Carr who's humour is farrrrrrrrr darker, in fact one of his jokes calls rape a "struggle snuggle "

The poster implied it was just a joke about a cape/serial killer, when it wasn't, it was primarily about rape.

I used to love Bake Off. It seems to be dying by a thousand cuts. I can't bear Noel. Alison Hammond makes my teeth hurt. All the ridiculous themed weeks. It's like C4 are just trying too hard.
I loved Nadiya too. Her mango lassi Bircher muesli is one of the nicest things I've ever eaten.

Meh, I've made some shit jokes in my time. Never meant a word. I guess how stupid and shocking they are is why people find them funny? Ricky Gervais does a good bit on it in his stand up, talking about laughing at dark things to make light of shitty situations.

I don't think we can vilify someone based on a distasteful joke and some tabloid rumours.
