Dog just killed my cat

Heard a commotion in my back garden and stepped out to see a young lad dragging his dog off something in my back garden. He went over the fence and my beautiful little cat was lying dead on the grass. I'm in absolute bits, can't stop crying. I got her as a little rescue kitten ten years ago and she's been with me through so much life stuff. Have a crime number from the police, have no idea how I'm going to tell my family. I don't even know how the dog got into my garden because I have talk fences and a locked gate. Ir doesn't feel real and I just want to give her a cuddle and make her wake up

Oh god that is so so awful. I’m so sorry that this has happened to you and your poor cat. God only knows what sort of dog owner would allow this to happen. Sending hugs 💐

Theunamedcat · 19/09/2023 23:32

I'm so sorry that's incredibly traumatic 💔

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/09/2023 23:33

Deathbyfluffy · 19/09/2023 23:34

I’m so sorry, this is absolutely terrible.
What on earth was the idiot’s explanation as to why his dog was in your garden?!

XenoBitch · 19/09/2023 23:34

That is awful.
Sorry to say, but I doubt the police will do much as it was a animal on animal thing.

IroningThrone · 19/09/2023 23:35

Thank you. I feel so guilty for letting her out but I thought the garden was a safe space... We put in tall solid fences and a strong lock on the gate. It's my fault I should have kept her in.

It’s not your fault at all - your cat should be safe in your own garden 😣

He never said anything. I just saw him drag the dog off and climb over the fence into next doors garden. Was a black lurcher type dog. I have six foot fences so I have no idea why or how he was in my garden. Dog wasn't on a lead so maybe it smelled her and jumped the fence. Can it do that?

He dragged it over the fence into next doors garden. Pretty sure he's broken the strut thing in the inside climbing out. But I have no idea how he got in - the fence is intact and the gate bolts and locked from the inside.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

And lurches can get quite a jump on when they’re making an effort. I’m fairly sure they’d manage 6ft.

Definitely call the police, also ask your neighbours as someone may have ring doorbell footage of the intruder.
I am so sorry about your poor little cat, this wasn’t your fault, your cat was in her own secure garden and should have been safe. It is the fault of whoever owns the dog.
Heartbreaking to read, I can only imagine how upset you must be.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/09/2023 23:44

I have just seen the pictures and shed a tear for your beautiful girl.

SueVineer · 19/09/2023 23:44

Yes it's entirely possible a lurcher could jump a 6 ft fence if it smelt or heard your cat. I'm so sorry this has happened. And how awful of the owner to not even say anything and just drag their dog away. 😢

ChaToilLeam · 19/09/2023 23:45

I‘m so sorry, your poor dear kitty girl. What a cowardly little toad that boy with the dog is, climbing over the fence and running away.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/09/2023 23:46

I’m sorry I missed the part that says you have a crime number so have obviously called the police already.

Duckingella · 19/09/2023 23:48

I'm so sorry 😢

As a child my cat was killed by someone's dog that had escaped and got into my neighbours front g;I can't imagine what my mum went through when the neighbour knocked to tell her what had happened.
