Dog just killed my cat

IroningThrone · 19/09/2023 23:30

Heard a commotion in my back garden and stepped out to see a young lad dragging his dog off something in my back garden. He went over the fence and my beautiful little cat was lying dead on the grass. I'm in absolute bits, can't stop crying. I got her as a little rescue kitten ten years ago and she's been with me through so much life stuff. Have a crime number from the police, have no idea how I'm going to tell my family. I don't even know how the dog got into my garden because I have talk fences and a locked gate. Ir doesn't feel real and I just want to give her a cuddle and make her wake up

You can try the police but I don't think they would take much action. So sorry about your cat though.

Give it up will you! There is a time and a place. Now is not it!

Absolutely not the fucking place or time. Why are you doing this? What you're doing is really fucking cruel.

I'm so so sorry. Poor little thing xx

MariePaperRoses · 20/09/2023 00:30

That's horrendous and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Some of my dogs are Sighthounds and can easily clear a 6ft fence in one leap and whilst two will chase they won't kill but one sadly would kill anything small and furry.

They all wear bear bells and none of my dogs go in our garden unattended. One of us is always there with them to recall them.

We do have very large gardens here and so do our neighbours but they do have cats and I would be devastated if our dogs chased anyone's cat.

It's possible the dog was a visitor to next door and either smelt or saw your cat on or through the fence and leapt in and then the lad panicked when he saw you. Cowardly though to not return once the dog was secured inside, though.

I’m so sorry 😢 Your poor little cat. How absolutely dreadful. Big hugs to you OP.

Poorlittlebug · 20/09/2023 00:32

Heartbroken for you OP, your little cat was a beauty. Just gone and got my cat off the arm chair and pulled him into bed with me after reading your post. I feel sick for you.

I hope you get some answers on who the man is. I’d call the police. He was an intruder in your garden.

Youdoyoubabe · 20/09/2023 00:32

Sorry, too literal. I am ND.

LadyWiddiothethird · 20/09/2023 00:34

So sorry @IroningThrone tragic for you.

@Youdoyoubabe Just f* off.

ClairDeLaLune · 20/09/2023 00:35

@Youdoyoubabe what a nasty piece of work you are, you should be really ashamed of yourself. Do you have any friends in real life? You need to leave this thread, no-one wants you here.

WhatWhereWho · 20/09/2023 00:35

Am so sorry for your loss. It's a horrific thing to have happened and witnessed. She was a beautiful girl.

RhannionKPSS · 20/09/2023 00:35

I’m so very sorry.

I'm so sorry for your loss OP, your poor little cat. She had every right to enjoy her own garden without fear of being attacked by some dog owned by an ignorant owner. I can't believe they didn't even apologise! Just shows the level of these owners. Absolute disgrace.

@Youdoyoubabe You have just demonstrated how thick some dog owners are and how they don't control their own animals. Let's hope your dog doesn't go for a small child whilst you let it run riot. And ND doesn't explain your complete insensitivity here.

Tryingmybestadhd · 20/09/2023 00:36

I’m so so sorry .Call the dog warden too and make sure the owner is found and gets the consequences .

Snead808 · 20/09/2023 00:36

I'm so sorry xx

Miragelifeguard · 20/09/2023 00:37

I’m so sorry OP. This is not your fault.

TorqueWrench · 20/09/2023 00:38

Sadly it probably just jumped the fence. My border collie was able to jump high fences and lurchers/greyhounds are both fast and possess a high prey drive. It's not your fault, it's a very unlikely and unfortunate thing to happen. x

Wakintoblueskies · 20/09/2023 00:38

What a horrific thing to witness OP and how awful of that boy to just leave.

I don't believe what another poster suggested, that all dogs should be muzzled in public. But all dogs should be on leads in public.

You tried your best to make a safe area for her to go outside, which is so much more than many cat owners do. It is NOT your fault for letting her go outside to HER secure space.

I'm so sorry OP - the shock and the loss of your pet are awful. You did a lovely thing by raising her to the age of ten, and letting her be a much loved cat after her bad start to life.

WhatWhereWho · 20/09/2023 00:38

Youdoyoubabe · 20/09/2023 00:32

Sorry, too literal. I am ND.

You are just trolling to provoke a deeply upset person. Just fuck off you arsehole.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/09/2023 00:40

So sorry for your loss.
There might not be a criminal law that can be enforced, but if their dog is from a greyhound rescue place, it will be in the rehoming agreement that they can't let it off the lead.
I hope the police can help in some way, anyway.
Random unexpected violence is incredibly shocking.
Try and get all the support you need, in whatever form that takes.

Boomboom22 · 20/09/2023 00:42

Worrying some owners saying their dogs can jump 6ft fences. Are we not even safe with our kids in our own gardens or fenced in locked spaces? What if it was a toddler? Or a baby in a buggy? How on earth can we as a society be in a place where dog owners can let these things happen?

IcakethereforeIam · 20/09/2023 00:48

I'm so sorry OP, she was a beautiful cat. Looked like she had a butterfly on her flank.
