I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

I have cleaned the bath today! And i have put my mum's Christmas decorations in her loft for her 💪 And hoovered her house (but not mine!) I also bought some new socks after noticing several of mine are holey. No now I shall have a good sort out of my underwear drawer 😊

WinterLobelia · 10/01/2024 15:14

Good work @FrostyFogg !!

I have sort of tidied before The Day The Cleaner Comes.

I wrote 3 e-mails I have been putting off to accountants and lawyers. It only took 5 minutes too. I have been faffing for a week. Hmm

SpiritOfEdna · 10/01/2024 16:46

I have finished painting a mural in the spare room, it has probably cost me more than buying the wallpaper would have cost, (because I ended up having to buy a 1l tin of paint rather than the sample pots I started with), but I have finally finished tinkering. I have a bit of gloss touching up to do, but that is finally a two minute job and then the room can be cleaned and prepped ready for the GNeice to stay tomorrow night. She doesn't know it's been finished - we are going to tell her to go and dump her stuff in the room after school and see her reaction! It's been a bit of a trek from spare room with the boiler in, to the boiler moved into the kitchen, then used as an office and dumping ground during lockdown and now to back to a bedroom.

I need to wash all the paint off my hands, tidy up all the paint stuff, and then start cleaning 😄
I was going out later to meet someone for a coffee (2 more of us doing dry Jan) but that has just been cancelled (very glad)
Hope everyone has had a good day, SoE.

Amazing how these things take so little time isn't it! I am the same!

You amaze me every time you post!

I really struggle with getting things done at home. And yet, I was efficient at work.

No dry January here, because I barely drink and DH doesn't at all. But we are off the sweeties in solidarity!

RunningKatie · 11/01/2024 09:55

Morning all - feeling accomplished as I've mopped everywhere that needs it this morning. Also consumed some chocolate orange in my ongoing quest to clear the house of random Christmas food.
I need to phone the theatre, pretty sure that was on Tuesday's list! And I need to stop writing lists and get the stuff done.

SingleThreadJoiner · 11/01/2024 10:19

How is your DS @Aria999 @Mumtobabyhavoc , very nice for Havoc to have some special 1-2-1 time with you 💕

As ever, I feel much less accomplished than everyone else - staying on top of laundry is about all I can manage! I was meeting a colleague in town for lunch yesterday and meant to do a few small errands afterwards - but she very kindly offered me a lift home so I couldn't say no, but there went my errand-running 😆

WinterLobelia · 11/01/2024 10:49

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well, and all loved ones too!

Cleaner has been and gone. Oven cleaner is here and has done a repair as well to the oven. I have spent an hour tidying the entrance pathway to our house and swept and washed down the front door. Plan to spend some time making notes about various small repairs that need to be done in that location also.

I need to do a tip run but that will be tomorrow.

Best wishes all!

SpiritOfEdna · 11/01/2024 11:00

@frostyfogg - it had been in an interim stage for a (very long) while.....
Today

  • gym session; it's a new routine this week so I am feeling it - DONE
  • general tidy up - everything is now back in the shed, floors need doing again
  • work desk needs tidying
  • bins need emptying, recycling needs to be gone
  • get a load of washing on - IN
  • water plants
That's it for today, I can do all the above in 5 min bursts around a busy work day, and then GNeice is here after school, have a good day all, SoE

Morning all.

I didn’t get on the thread yesterday. I tidied the house for the cleaners and did some washing. Then I fell asleep on the sofa for almost two hours.

Dry January is not going well here. We are so rubbish. We both love wine and the evening ritual of a glass or two while cooking. Not going to stress about it. January is bad enough!

Today I have been to the gym. Just having a sit down before hanging up the washing I put in earlier. Today’s main task is to tidy DS’s room so it’s not an embarrassment as we have a guy coming this evening to measure for wardrobes. I also have a chiropractor appointment this afternoon.

Have a good day all.

WinterLobelia · 11/01/2024 12:40

Oooh. washing. I am behind on my washing schedule. Thanks @SpiritOfEdna for the reminder.

@Peridot1 Dry Jan for me has now turned into Dry-January-Done-4-Days-That's-Quite-Enough. I do need to cease regular consumption of alcohol but tbh January is so dreary anyway.

I am thrilled with our oven cleaner lady. She's done all sorts of repairs as well to some hinges and a cracked light bulb that I did not even know was an issue. I am going to get her in every 6 months instead of 12 I think. Plus a lovely shiny oven. All ready for me to cook spinach and mushroom quiche for dinner.

My list making for the entrance area has inevitably expanded. Once I started really looking at things I saw how things have got tatty and rusty and woodworm-y. So focusing on this is my next larger project. I'm going to have to youtube lots of things but I am planning to do it all myself. @Mumtobabyhavoc has inspired me with her 'can do this!' attitude!!

FrostyFogg · 11/01/2024 12:58

Ohhhh i just lost a post due to receiving a message from British Gas about my mum and then phoning her.

Dry January should me in March really. Nobody needs to drink to get through that month in the same way really. Better still Feb as its only 28 days....

I have been out and got home to discover that my lovely DD who is currently with us has tidied, hoovered and done the kitchen. And folded my washing. So I'll go and do the bathroom to match!

Don't overdo it @Peridot1 you're clearly not better yet 😔 @RunningKatie i like your method of clearing out the Christmas food. I can get behind that!

I must get on and do something useful but best wishes to all and loving your posts as always 💕

WinterLobelia · 11/01/2024 13:12

aaaahhhh what a lovely DD @FrostyFogg

WinterLobelia · 11/01/2024 13:12

aaaahhhh what a lovely DD @FrostyFogg

Thank you! She's a good egg 💕

Aria999 · 11/01/2024 14:34

@SingleThreadJoiner he's back at school but has been very low the last couple of days. The doctor we spoke to recently thinks that periodic mood disorder (anxiety/ depression) may be behind some of his difficulties.

@Peridot1 , respect to people who do dry January but we never attempt it! As @WinterLobelia and @FrostyFogg have said, January is such an awful month anyway. Wet, cold, dreary, tired and a bit overweight after the holiday and no future holidays in sight... ugh.

@FrostyFogg how lovely of your DD!

Yesterday I managed to book a birthday party for DD (a month after her actual birthday, should have done it before Christmas.

Today, annual mammogram - just done.

WinterLobelia · 11/01/2024 19:21

Happy belated birthday to your DD @Aria999

I am feeling daunted by the various house and garden tasks i hope to achieve this year. But keep reminding myself of the very significant achievements made since these threads began. Toilet chandeliers if anyone recalls! And i keep reminding myself of the saying; 'How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time'.

Tomorrow's plan;

  • blood tests first thing
  • tip run
  • head to B&Q to look at something I can use to fill a gap in our fence.... I need something black and green
  • paint a random piece of wood (supporting the fence) that is currently in a corner and if painted dark green would blend very nicely with the ferns it sits behind.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/01/2024 20:45

Thanks, Winter! It's nice to know I've inspired someone. 🥰 YouTube, spackle, caulking, sandpaper and paint are your friends! 👍

I finally got the whole bathroom clean today!👍
It gorgeous outside: mostly sunny still, snow on the mountains and cold 0c. Forecast is for -7c by late afternoon.
About to get Havoc ready to take out with me. Picking up the cake across town but thinking of a quick drop-in to Science World for an hour or so.

Very impressed with all the posts here!!! 😄
Would love to see a pic of the mural painted for Gniece;
echoing sentiments to not over-do it for those unwell;
sending love and support to those observing dry January... repeat after me: the struggle is real. 😂

Aria999 · 11/01/2024 23:06

Thanks @WinterLobelia , in fact not belated; her birthday is on February 3rd, unfortunately the earliest party I could book at the place she wanted was March 3rd!

Today, washed the car! (Well, took it through a car wash anyway). It turns out the windows are actually transparent. I can see out!

Peridot1 · 12/01/2024 07:59

Morning all. Sounds like everyone is busy with bits and pieces.

@WinterLobelia - I can’t focus on the garden yet as it’s too cold and wet. Although DH did drag me out to the new corner patio to discuss planters for it. We also need to decide on some shrubs to fill in some gaps.

I have a few admin tasks to do so I think I will concentrate on those today. Plus changing DS’s bed. And doing his washing. And nagging him for the millionth time to book his flight back to Dublin.

Also need to strip the spare beds this weekend and get all the bedding washed. And put the Christmas decorations up into the loft.

Have a great day all.

FrostyFogg · 12/01/2024 08:08

@Aria999 sorry to hear your son is finding life difficult 💐
Big wave to everyone 👋
@petalpower thinking of you and all your caring responsibilities 💕

I am taking a leaf out of @WinterLobelia's book today and plan to tackle a job that looks too big to handle, in bite size pieces. I know this,* *so I don't know why I haven't been doing it.

Have a great day everybody!

SpiritOfEdna · 12/01/2024 14:33

@Mumtobabyhavoc - there you go, the colours don’t look as different as in real life - mid section is a burnt orange colour and on the right a bruised pink and a darker pink colour. I may redo the edges of the blue section at some point but the GNiece was made up - she had chosen the design/colours and done some of the original painting.
Today has been busy work wise, another couple of meetings and am done. Just going to try a new recipe tonight Spaghetti Aglio & Olio as I had it in a restaurant before Xmas and was very nice, although resisting a nice glass of wine with it will be hard! I could only book onto a Pilates class at 9 tomorrow so an early night with a book beckons.
That’s all for now, have a good day all, SoE

Oh I love that, @SpiritOfEdna !!

FrostyFogg · 12/01/2024 16:36

Oh that is good @SpiritOfEdna!

Good day here today! A big walk on the beach, a tip run, a sort out of some grot that's outside, a menu plan and smug soup made.
Later I plan to clean the fridge and write a (small) shopping list for DH.

Feeling accomplished does a Lobelia-esque *twirl 😁

I may have peaked today...... 😂

FrostyFogg · 12/01/2024 16:37

Oh my bolding went wrong 😔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/01/2024 17:10

Spirit, that looks great! It must've been quite dfficult to do as well. 👏👏👏

Gorgeous snow on the mtns today and sunny.
Brief blizzard yesterday left roads icy and I ended up getting stuck in it. Ninety minutes to get across town and 3 hours to get home. Still exhausted.
