and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

@Peridot1 , I am glad your sister is at home - must be quite a relief for you all. @petalpower , not much rest for you with the latest news from home - so sorry to hear that. What a tough time for your family.

Thank you all for the supportive vibes for the playdate - they must have worked, because things went splendidly! The girls played upstairs without any audible screaming or fighting, and all the parents stayed and drank coffee and ate panettone downstairs and had a good chat and relaxed. People stayed for over three hours!! But very restorative.

In other achievements, we did some meal planning for the week yesterday and associate supermarket shop - trying to coordinate with the D's school lunches so that she doesn't eat the same thing twice in a day. Today I need to tidy my study because they are coming to install AC in it tomorrow morning first thing - very unseasonal I know, but might as well get it done now before the summer rush. It's at the top of the house and gets to 35/36 degrees in the summer, and as I am almost exclusively WFH I really need to make it bearable.

Happy Sunday - it's beautifully sunny here, if near-freezing, might have to go out for a bit in the afternoon to enjoy it!

petalpower · 07/01/2024 10:55

Amazing news that your sister has been able to go home @Peridot1 ! I’m sure that having a transplant brings up a lot of very complicated feelings.
It’s a bit of a grey day here but fortunately no more rain. Planning a fairly quiet day to recuperate after this week.
Have a lovely day everyone.

FrostyFogg · 07/01/2024 10:55

Morning all! The rain has finally stopped and we have sunshine! Very cold though!

Finally I have some writing done, so my head feels less muddled and I have some plans 😊

I have just been on a cold muddy walk with my daughters and their dogs, which was lovely! Now to get on with prepping dinner for tonight.

What else... oh hoover round, and get some boxes in the loft.

What will be my daily staying done thing 🤔

My plate/bowl cupboard!! It has gone wild so I shall do that immediately.

Best wishes to you all 💐

Peridot1 · 07/01/2024 12:25

Morning all.

Gorgeous cold sunny morning here. So nice after all the rain.

Managed to get all the Christmas decorations down yesterday and most of it boxed up. Still got a big pile on the dining table that needs to be put away today. The boxes are gradually being moved upstairs and will get put back in the loft this week.

Had to nip to supermarket to get a couple of things for dinner for tonight.

My main job today will be finishing boxing up the Christmas decorations. And reading my book.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I really want banana bread now! I have some bananas in the freezer…….. and I have pecans….

Have a lovely day all.

RunningKatie · 07/01/2024 15:00

Afternoon gang! Last day of school hols for dc2, so the xbox is being put through its paces.

I've done duty family visit and a quick supermarket shop. We need to put the Christmas decorations in the loft but dh has wandered off and appears to be painting random bits of walls and ceiling.

Aria999 · 07/01/2024 23:22

lol at your DH @RunningKatie !

I need to catch up with the thread. First proper day of new project tomorrow and we are kicking off with a 6am meeting that I think I am expected to run part of.... why did I sign up for this again?!

(It's an 11am meeting in the uk, normally I avoid this transatlantic weirdness but the meeting was scheduled before I got there).

FrostyFogg · 08/01/2024 09:17

@Aria999 that sounds very early indeed for a meeting! Best of everything for it 🤞

@RunningKatie i once had a DH who would suddenly start doing completely random things around the house, leaving trails of destruction and giving me no assistance with more immediate tasks. So I am hoping yours was just having a funny five minutes 💕 I hope the return to school goes smoothly for DC.

@Peridot1 I hope you managed to get the jobs done and got to read your book.

We got a load of boxes into the loft yesterday. So I am pleased with that. DH sorted out a space in there last week which I hadn't realised, and that was very helpful. So our small room is starting to look like a bedroom once again. Over the last six months we have had a procession of stuff entering and leaving the house, accompanied or not by various family members. I was going to say for complicated reasons, but actually it's mainly due to the housing crisis.

Plate cupboard is sorted, so we have only what is necessary for four adults, and the rest is boxed for when we have gatherings (our kitchen is tiny compared to the size of other rooms in the house, so cupboard and worktop space are both limited) I also operate much better when I don't have to work round excess clobber.

I am writing this whilst sitting on my bed and I'm looking at the clutter that has accumulated on various flat surfaces in the room. So that will be today's project I think.

@SingleThreadJoiner your playdate sounds fun!

@petalpower I hope you are able to take some time out for yourself. You have so much on your plate 💐

👋 to the rest of the gang, and wishing you all a hapoy and productive day!

Peridot1 · 08/01/2024 11:41

Morning all.

well the decorations didn’t quite all get sorted yesterday so I’m doing that today. The post covid tiredness seems to hit in the afternoon. So I’m just going with it! Afternoons are sofa and books at the moment.

So two more boxes to pack up and that’s Christmas done for another year. Other job today is making soup. And I have some phone calls and appointments to sort. Might be time for a brain dump list and a plan for the next few weeks. I go to Australia again in five weeks so want to get a bit of a spring clean and sort out done before I go and we are having some pretty major work done in the house when I get back.

@RunningKatie hope the pain was at least the right colours!

@Aria999 - 6am meeting sounds pretty unreasonable! Hope you can sort the timings going forward.

@FrostyFogg - not having too much in cupboards makes it so much easier to stay organised for sure. I have spent years trying to persuade MIL of that. One person who doesn’t entertain anymore doesn’t need four full dinner services!

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/01/2024 15:39

hello

It's so cold here have just whacked the heating up and have got a pot of swedish split pea soup on the go! I really need to go out and put the bins back - it's a 2 minute job and I really should have done it when got back from walking the dog.
Today

  • Put the bins back. Must do it before the neighbours get back from their xmas trip as they don't like the bins being out 😄
  • empty dishwasher
  • did some painting touch ups in spare bedroom over the weekend, need to take off the masking tape and continue with the last bits of painting
  • clean floor in said room
  • move all the clean clothes hanging around up into rooms
  • handwash a jumper
  • I've got the contents of a tool chest spread out over a room, need to get tidy them up and put it back in the shed
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE

petalpower · 08/01/2024 17:23

Very cold here today. Flurries of snow and sleet but nothing settling. I have to go out to my music group later which I’m not looking forward to - it’ll be fine when I’m there but it’s in quite a cold building. I think I’ll put another jumper on in preparation!
Had quite a productive day. Good to keep busy sometimes with mundane jobs.

  • picked up prescription
  • bought birthday present for friend
  • cleaned Petaldog’s teeth and gave him worm medication
  • approved auntie’s tax return, paid the accountant and paid HMRC
  • ordered birthday cards for the next couple of months
  • firmed up plans for visiting dad and stepmother that need to be coordinated with other family members
  • sorted the annoying drawer that has the foil, freezer bags etc in
  • sorted the under stair cupboard as all the Christmas wrapping items had been thrown in!
  • made smug soup using a homegrown butternut squash sand made apple sauce using over purchased apples from Christmas (soup consumed and apple sauce in freezer)
Aria999 · 08/01/2024 17:26

Having caught up a little, that's good to hear about your sister @Peridot1 but really sorry about your dad's diagnosis @petalpower 😢

Still super tired from 5.30am start but I didn't really need to do anything in the meeting except nod and smile so it could have been worse!

RunningKatie · 08/01/2024 19:44

I'm not keeping up at the moment, it's gone cold so I'm tired.
Been to the supermarket and also got petrol. Lunches made for tomorrow. Duolingo done.
I wanted to mop through downstairs, I still might! And I need to make a proper list as I must call the theatre to move tickets and the dentist to ask why they've moved dc2 appt but not dc1. I really can't go 2 weeks on the trot.

FrostyFogg · 09/01/2024 08:46

@WinterLobelia you have set a trend! Our mighty @SpiritOfEdna has made the soup, and several of us are thinking about it 😊

Hugs for @RunningKatie and I'd send you a cyber vat of warming soup if I'd got round to making any! It was blooming freezing yesterday and no doubt a big weary drop from the Christmas excitement 💐 How frustrating about the dentist!

That's a good solid list, @petalpower I'm very impressed at a list of things you have achieved, rather than what you might do! I hope you enjoyed your music group and found it relaxing.

I'm pleased to hear that the meeting was good and not too taxing @Aria999

Wise to be pacing yourself @Peridot1 Definitely need to be back to full health for your Australia trip. How long will you be away for? I forget - do you have family there?

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you are all keeping well! @SingleThreadJoiner is little one back to school or is she nursery age?

I am having a commitment free day today. No appointments and nobody needs anything, and DH is working out of the house. There has been one thing after another recently but all seems calm at the moment. I am still in bed with the cats but I will shortly turn my phone off for a bit, have a shower then start my day. Although DH is no trouble, I find it so much easier to get on with things in an empty house.

I will be back later with a list of things achieved, I hope!

Best wishes to you all for a good day. Hoping very much for positive things for you all, and for your loved ones xxx

SpiritOfEdna · 09/01/2024 09:56

the soup was lovely: followed this recipe with a few adjustments, eg I didn't have the ham on the bone to start, https://www.thespruceeats.com/dried-pea-soup-artsoppa-in-swedish-2952931 It was very filling, and will make it again.

A commitment free day sounds perfect, enjoy.
Today:

  • more spare room fixing up which will take up most of my time today
  • need to put a blind up in bathroom, it will be awkward getting the fixings in as the window is behind the loo and I am very short so it'll be a bit of a stretch
  • had a gym session this morning - whole new routine and I am starting to feel it, so hot radox bath later
  • there is a whole load of dusty things looking at me, (picture frames, kitchen door tops which I can't be bothered to do anything about, but now they are on the list, I'll sort them out as I pass by them today)
That's it from me, have a good day all, keep warm! SoE

I'm a social media influencer!!! Grin

I am so glad you liked it @SpiritOfEdna . I really love that soup. It just feels comforting. I have sent DH on a search through the larder to see if split peas are lurking. I have managed to make 3 meals in a row using other forms of dried lentils or beans but still cannot find any yellow ones.

Sorry for silence.... been a busy weekend and I have not been on MN much. I hope everyone is well. It is very cold here! I went for an hour long walk with a friend and her dogs. We walked along a river bank. In the wind. I had forgotten my coat and gloves. I am now sitting almost on top of our electric heater!

After i warm up I will do maintenance stuff - beds, washing, load dishwasher, kitty litter trays. But that is all I am up for I think.

Hope everyone has a very good day!

FrostyFogg · 09/01/2024 13:00

Shower ✅
Breakfast ✅
Bed made ✅
Dressed and teeth cleaned ✅
Windows opened ✅
" closed! ✅

Yes it felt like one of those mornings where I needed to work at stuff that should be habit.

Anyway.... wash on, kitchen floor mopped, sink shiny, (a flylady thing. Her methods are so good at putting me back together when I feel in a funk - thankfully rare but I'm only just realising how tough last year was) Swished and swiped loo and bathroom.

Off for a walk now, then will take car to car wash. Dinner is leftovers so I'm on top of that. Also will neaten up the lounge and run hoover round before DH gets home.

Plenty to do @SpiritOfEdna ! Pleased the soup was as tasty as it looks!

@WinterLobelia well done on the walk and the three lentil based meals. I hope you have warmed up!

SingleThreadJoiner · 09/01/2024 15:34

Hello all
It sounds like everyone has had a productive, if cold, start to the week! But I almost froze in my seat when I read of @WinterLobelia 's coat-less walk, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes!

@FrostyFogg , D is at school - reception (she is a late summer birthday so just 4.5 now). She went back yesterday and luckily completely fuss-free. This morning I bundled her up in lots of extra layers under the official uniform as she complained about the cold yesterday.

Successful installation of the AC unit yesterday (at the cost of having no internet for most of the afternoon), with bonus discovery that it also generates hot air! I hadn't realised, and my home office also gets freezing in winter, so this was a wonderful surprise that made me feel better about the expense. In preparation for the installation I had cleared ALL the papers off my desk, which now looks amazing as a result, but I have resolved to go through each paper/item when I have a few minutes and dispose/archive it properly.

Today I also managed to go to my stretch class, which was lovely and much needed!

About the pea-soup - I lived in Sweden for a few months and the canteens and schools tend to serve the soup on a particular day of the week, followed by delicious pancakes/thick crepes with cream and jam. Amazing!!

WinterLobelia · 09/01/2024 16:04

Afternoon @SingleThreadJoiner ! I truly envy you having lived in Sweden. That’s a bucket list item for me! I think I shall have to start following my soup with pancakes. What a luscious idea!!

glad your DDs return to school went well!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2024 16:32

@SpiritOfEdna - I had a tough PT session this morning and your idea of a hot Radox bath is excellent so I’ve just done that this afternoon. Feeling all relaxed and cosy now. Hope it will mean less aches and pains tomorrow.

@FrostyFogg - I could not have done a coat less walk today! It’s really cold!

@SingleThreadJoiner - excellent news on the AC unit.

Aria999 · 09/01/2024 18:54

Mmm I want a hot radox bath now. I could definitely have done with one after my first post Christmas Kung fu class yesterday evening! I do get bored in baths very quickly though.

DS got sent home from school today as he wasn't feeling well. To be fair to him he did say in the morning he wasn't feeling well but I persuaded him to have a go - he might have got over it and if the school sends him home it doesn't count towards non attendance figures

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/01/2024 20:45

Have got gym and bath envy reading recent posts here! Did manage a sort of workout yesterday with Havoc going up/down stairs and running back and forth in the hallway for about a half hour. Day before did 5 deep squats wearing baby and walking around the garden with Havoc, again for 30 mins. So, making some headway. 🤷‍♀️
Have got a large load of laundry in the wash and a banana bread in the oven.
It has armed up to 8c and the rain has stopped. It is windy, though: 24kph with gusts at 52kph according to the app on my phone.
Going to take Havoc out for some 1:1 time shortly and hopefully bring home or order a special cake celebrating new baby. Did same with Havoc. Just got name and DOB written on cake and took cute pics with Havoc.
Still need to take Christmas tree down. 🤦‍♀️
I also saw The Spruce Eats recipe! Looks quite good. 😛

Aria999 · 09/01/2024 23:07

lol @Mumtobabyhavoc I thought I was having a good day if I managed to get dressed before lunchtime after dd was born! Banana cake, what is this domestic goddess insanity?! 🤣🤣🤣

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2024 04:45

Looks like I've got you fooled Aria! ☺️☺️☺️
If i'm not going outside it's all day pyjamas.
I'm sleeping in 2-hr blocks and managed a total of 6 hours last night.
Did manage to go for cake today. Havoc and I shared two pieces: choc raspberry and choc birthday cake. (1 1/2 pieces eaten and i ate 90% of it)😛😛😛Ordered a Devil's food cake that i'll pick up on Thurs.

WinterLobelia · 10/01/2024 06:27

Glad you are managing to get some sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Those cakes...... mmmmmmm. Dry January is in full swing here. I seem to have given up drinking and taken up cake. Blush

Today will again be a regular home maintenance sort of day. Tomorrow I have the cleaner coming and the oven cleaner lady coming as well so hope to spend alot of the day tidying up in the garden which is a bit of a sodden mess.

Hope everyone has a great day!

petalpower · 10/01/2024 12:59

Another very bright, cold day here. The frost still hasn’t lifted in parts of the garden. Much nicer walking on hard ground than squelchy mud when I took Petaldog out earlier.
I didn’t manage to got on here yesterday but went back to my aquafit class and also had a dentist appointment to fit a night time retainer and replace a filling.
Today I’ve:

  • dropped my car off for two new tyres
  • sorted out the big cupboard in the utility room that has had random stuff shoved in for the past month
  • cleaned the bathrooms
This afternoon I’m going to visit auntie in the care home and then pick up my car. Have a good day all.
