I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

@WinterLobelia - half cocker spaniel half lagotto. We regularly get comments about how happy she looks - of course she is - she is thrashing around in the woods and splashing around in the mud for most of her walks. But will she get into a bath with lovely clean water without being bribed? Nope.

WinterLobelia · 03/01/2024 15:51

Legotto!! I have just googled. What a lovely doggie combination! I bet she is gorgeous. Our last dog died in may I think. We do miss them. We are mad cat people but look forward to having a dog again one day. ❤️

Aria999 · 03/01/2024 20:46

Hi everyone!

That sounds epic @WinterLobelia !

No, not just you @SingleThreadJoiner though I have spoiled it for myself by accepting new work. For my original and best client though so I'm looking forward to it (also hoping it will smooth out the financial rough edges of the year to come!)

DH packed in the end. There was not a gravitational collapse, or even (to my surprise) a problem with the cases being over the weight limit.

Jet lag is hitting harder than usual I feel with DD3 singing loudly in her bedroom from 4am this morning. DH thinks I am expecting too much (but 5 hours sleep is not enough, I am in zombie mode - I thought the kick off meeting at work was tomorrow and it was actually today, by pure luck I rolled up back from the supermarket one minute before it was due to start 🤦‍♀️).

DS birthday today (8!) , luckily he actually wanted a cake from the supermarket as normally I spend a whole day making one.

All projects on hold till the job settles in a bit. Though I will need to make an effort to get the last dregs of the unpacking process out of the hall.

Peridot1 · 04/01/2024 10:01

Laughing at your doggie shenanigans @SpiritOfEdna!

Well done on all your efforts yesterday @WinterLobelia. I don’t think I have the concentration span to do big sessions like that these days.

@Aria999 jet lag is a nightmare. Especially with children! Hope it passes quickly.

As predicted I am very achy today. Very. Bending is not easy. The gym was renovated last month and has new equipment some of which is tougher or different to the old equipment. Ouch is all I can say!

Today’s list:

  • change my bed
  • wash bedding
  • put laundry away
  • get boxes down from loft
  • sort magazines out (supposed to do yesterday)
  • try on new cardigan I bought - suspect it may go back
  • clear out veggie drawer in fridge and make soup

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/01/2024 11:24

Gratuitous dog pictures - she likes her bouncy balls 🤣
Today:

  • brush, hoover, clean all downstairs floors
  • empty dishwasher
  • Empty all recycling into outside bin
  • GNiece wants to come to the gym so will go and get some application forms when it opens at 4
  • I’ve done my morning routine and feeling virtuous - hoping it will last another 27 days 🤣 I have very clean worktops 🤣
Need to squeeze this in around work meetings, have a good day all, SoE

Super cute doggo @SpiritOfEdna 🥰

WinterLobelia · 04/01/2024 12:07

aaaah! She is gorgeous! And definitely very happy!

I am a bit sore since my epic tidying yesterday. Today is devoted to washing and ironing. DH sorted out the lamp which is good. I have finalised an e-mail I needed to send to our solicitors about wills and things which I have been putting off.

We were meant to do a trip to London today but the weather forecast put us off.

Hope everyone is well!

WinterLobelia · 04/01/2024 12:17

And Happy Birthday to @Aria999 's son! What a terrific age 8 is. Smile

RunningKatie · 04/01/2024 20:08

Super cute dog! We had someone compliment our ddog on their "rough coat" at the weekend, I agreed that he was rather scruffy. She seemed quite pleased I wasn't offended by him being described as a scruff.
Back to work has been slow and steady, I suspect it's the calm before the storm. Office tomorrow, and we've already organised the lunch run so all the important stuff is sorted.
I'm just de-Christmassed the house, I find this stretch of year through to March a long slog now, need to make plans to look forward to.
How's new baby @Mumtobabyhavoc ?
Hope everyone else is ok!

FrostyFogg · 05/01/2024 08:13

What a lovely dog! I met a little fellow similar to her this week (also loving the mud!) and his coat was the softest I have ever felt)

Belated birthday wishes to DS @Aria999 ! @WinterLobelia is right about it being such a great age. Hope the jet lag settles!

I have still not managed a brain dump or a list! But despite that, the laundry is done, there is food on the table on trays on our laps (sigh!) Spare room has been aired (why do they never open windows??) and hoovered, sheets and duvet changed.

Ancient cat's monthly injection has been booked ✅

Today i will track down the odd bits of Christmas that are not yet put away (door wreath and a couple of ornaments)

I think a meal plan needs to feature heavily in my list/brain dump. Also a shopping list. The freezer is full and yet DH likes to go off piste in the supermarket so we end up using fresh stuff and the freezer stays untouched. I really need to take over the grocery shopping now I have the time. DH weirdly likes doing it though. Some folk are plain odd 😂

Best wishes to you all for a lovely day. I hope those of you with children not yet back at school are surviving!

WinterLobelia · 05/01/2024 08:32

Morning all!

We have a similar situation re freezer food and fresh food @FrostyFogg !! Plus mounds of pantry stocks. I have actually challenged myself (starting 2nd January to try build meals from the freezer and pantry for the entire month- only buying fresh fruit and vegetables as needed. So far I have dragged out chicken pasties and a frozen chicken stroganof. Today I making spinach and potato soup using tinned spinach and tinned potatos that are lurking in the larder. I'm not sure how much I can stick to this plan.... we have very little meat in the freezer so i suspect things will get a little weird before long - yet we will still have mountains of food! I did an inventory yesterday and we have 6 packs (really.... 6!!!!) of dried soup bean mix. This is down to DH's love of shopping; his tendency to buy in bulk and his lack of impulse control. Grin Sadly we don't have a single pack of yellow split peas.... Swedish split pea soup is one of my favourite things ever.

I almost caught up on washing and ironing yesterday. One more load today and done. Out tonight for a friend's big birthday. It's likely to be a bit liquid so I have been waiting until tomorrow to start Dry January. Grin

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

FrostyFogg · 05/01/2024 08:41

I have been waiting until tomorrow to start dry January

I like your style @WinterLobelia 😎 Have fun tonight!

Peridot1 · 05/01/2024 09:44

Morning all.

That is a very cute dog @SpiritOfEdna.

@FrostyFogg - our neighbours have the opposite problem with spare room being aired. I’ve just messaged to ask if they are aware they have a bedroom window open our side of the house. It’s been open for days. They weren’t aware. Their son sleeps with the window open and left it open as he went home after Christmas. A week ago.

We are on a using foods up plan too. DH is obsessed with a weekly online supermarket delivery. And a shopping list. And a menu plan. Which is all great in theory but we don’t need anything! Freezers are full to bursting. As are fridges and cupboards. Drives me bonkers. So a proper menu plan based on freezer content is needed here.

Dry January not started here either @WinterLobelia! Out for dinner tomorrow so no point until after that really….

We are still full Christmas here but will start taking everything down today. Will enjoy our last night with all the lights tonight.

Today:

  • change my bed and wash bedding (was supposed to do yesterday)
  • change and wash towels
  • clear out fridge
  • boxes from loft
  • take Christmas tree in living room down

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 05/01/2024 11:16

just looked up the recipe for Swedish split pea soup - looks delicious. I have everything but the ham 😄Doing Dry January here, but am awash with mineral water. I don't know why I torture myself as January is grim as it is and seems neverending. My skin will thank me at the end of Jan I am sure.
Had a result with the gym - popped in last night to see about reviving membership to supplement the PT sessions I have and ended up getting vouchers which work out at £1 per session, so can take the GNiece and not have to set up a DD for her and we have an induction session set up for her on Sunday.
Had a busy work morning thus far, but it'll ease off after midday, just in time for SpiritDoggo's walk.
Today

  • morning routine - DONE
  • find a load of gift vouchers given for last birthday and xmas. Am sure there is enough there for a pair of boots in the sales!
  • had a nurse practitioner e-consult this morning and now I need to get an appointment for bloods at the drs. I have no idea of how to go about that, but sibling will be able to point me in right direction
  • still got ironing to finish
  • tidy work desk (again!)
  • need to do a tip run on Sunday and get the xmas tree to recycling
  • find charger for watch
That's all for now - very mundane tasks to get me through to the weekend, have a good day all, SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2024 17:50

Hello everyone ☺️
Been reading updates. It's nice to see things are humming along for the most part. 👍
I've managed to vacuum twice this week including today and washed/hung up a load of laundry which now needs to be folded and put away. I made a banana bread yesterday and Havoc helped. When I added the chocolate chips Havoc's fingers couldn't resist tasting. Managed to get a pic of that! 😂

Edited to add I've cleaned the bathroom sink, mirror and toilet. God forbid you think my bathroom isn't clean. 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂😂
Not quite ready to lean over to clean tub yet, though. Not running bath yet, just shower, so I can handle it for another day or two.

SingleThreadJoiner · 05/01/2024 21:55

Goodness @Mumtobabyhavoc you really are unstoppable! I'm sure Havoc enjoyed the baking session though :) but really, you put me to shame!

We flew back today. D has asked for a playdate at our house tomorrow afternoon, and all THREE of the little girls I invited have said yes, so now I will have a house full of 4/5yos tomorrow...😱😱hopefully between dressing up clothes, tons of crafting and colouring, and other assorted toys they will be sufficiently amused.

But tomorrow morning we need to do a supermarket run as the delivery doesn't come until the end of next week, so we are also planning to meal plan - joining the club! Also need to get rid of suitcases, do laundry, and tidy away any toys that I know the D is not good at sharing.

But first, sleep. 😴Happy start to the weekend, everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2024 22:06

Oh SingleThread, you will have to report back about this play date! You're a brave one!!! ☺️

Watching the doc about Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Fascinating.

btw, I think things always sound more impressive when written out. I'm no more productive than anyone else here.

I looked up the Swedish soup recipe. Sounds good! I have ingredients for a white bean soup on hand, so I'm inspired to make that. I'm thinking white beans, carrot, onion, mini meatballs, bay leaf, some tomato; and croutons with some left over baguette. Maybe a grating of pecorino over top. Hmmmm ...

petalpower · 05/01/2024 22:49

How is your situated getting on @Peridot1 ? Hope she is continuing to make steady progress.
Your dog is gorgeous @SpiritOfEdna ! Ours is a spaniel who also loves mud and puddles.
@Mumtobabyhavoc make sure you take it easy and look after yourself after your section.
Good luck with the playdate @SingleThreadJoiner ! I’m glad my two are now beyond this (aged 21 and 23 I should think so too!)
I’m still here and busy with bits and pieces at home. I’ve managed to sort out auntie’s tax return, clear the house after all our visitors and take down the Christmas decorations. Lots of family stuff going on with the oldies. Trying to sort out a care package to support my dad and stepmother. Dad was taken into hospital the other night (blocked catheter - sorry if TMI) and today has a cancer diagnosis which we were kind of expecting. Wine and chocolate have helped this evening.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/01/2024 02:52

Oh Petal, sorry about your dad. Expecting the news, or not, still not easy.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Healing a little more each day. ☺️

petalpower · 06/01/2024 09:04

Obviously I meant sister @Peridot1 . Should proof read more carefully!

Peridot1 · 06/01/2024 09:38

@petalpower - so sorry to hear about your dad. Even when you are expecting the diagnosis it’s never easy.

My sister is doing really well. She went home from hospital yesterday in fact. Still a long way to go obviously. But the new liver is working really well. She is a bit all over the place emotionally obviously. It’s a lot to process.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - please look after yourself! You have just had major surgery. I’m sure you shouldn’t be vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms just yet.

Hope you survived the play date @SingleThreadJoiner!

Will investigate the Swedish split pea soup. Sounds good. My soups tend to be just whatever veg needs using up with some stock and I’ll add spices/herbs if I can be bothered.

Yesterday we got boxes down from loft to take down Christmas decorations, I changed my bed and did two other loads of laundry, vacuumed and did some general tidying. Then I had to have a sit down. DH and I are both still feeling the tiredness after having had covid over Christmas.

Today all I am planning is taking down the Christmas decorations. We have two trees and loads of other stuff around the house so it takes forever. might just have another cup of tea first though……..

FrostyFogg · 06/01/2024 14:06

I too googled yellow split pea soup 😂

I hope your afternoon is fun @SingleThreadJoiner!

Oh @petalpower you are really going through the wringer at the moment! Much love to you and yours!

Very best wishes to your sister @Peridot1 And to you, of course. I hope you are on the up!

I cleaned the fridge this morning, and I have managed my daily routines. DH has gone to watch football so i am peacefully pottering this afternoon, combined with sitting down with my book. Menu planned after a fashion, and still not done any writing.

Hope you're all having a happy Saturday xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/01/2024 18:04

Peridot, glad to hear your sister is doing well. Best wishes for her. 🩷
You take care, too. The fatigue from covid can last a while.
I'm much less sore 10 days out. Cannot believe I have this little bundle all snuggled up beside me. 🩷
Walked around for a half hour with Havoc yesterday. Surprisingly tough. By contrast, I steam mopped the floors and that was easy.
i guess it is how I'm moving? It is all easier as the days go by, though. Need to make another banana bread as I don't want to throw bananas away - and tbh the one made two days ago is nearly gone. 😛😛 I think I'll add pecans to the next one. 😛😛
Another load of laundry done last night. Feeling good that things are tidy. I can't relax when it's not tidy and laundry has piled up.
it's sunny and 3c here. Was pouring last night.

petalpower · 06/01/2024 21:25

Be careful not to do too much @Mumtobabyhavoc. (Risk of sounding like an ancient, bossy woman!)
Today I’ve managed to:

  • visit auntie and take down her Christmas decorations
  • clean the fridge
  • do a massive basketful of ironing and put it all away
  • research treatment options for dad and chat to DB (we have LPA)
Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/01/2024 21:44

Petal, the concern and advice here is appteciated and gratefully accepted. 🩷
