I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you're being well looked after and enjoying some well deserved downtime with baby.

I have found the activity passport I had filed somewhere safe, it was on the spare room bed, so not safe at all. Hours logged for one, now to do the other. Then that's a job ticked off for this year.

Aria999 · 31/12/2023 09:32

Congrats @Mumtobabyhavoc 🥰

Aria999 · 31/12/2023 09:34

lol @RunningKatie filing something on the spare room bed sounds like something I would do

FrostyFogg · 31/12/2023 12:06

Hello everyone! I hope you are all well. I am pondering on leaving the year behind. We've had all the ups and downs just on one little thread haven't we? Thinking of you all 💕

Has been lovely to have all our young'uns about this week. Given that the youngest is 29 they aren't that young of course. There has been coming and going reminiscent of their teenage years which has kept us entertained.

There has been lots of laughter, some tears and some big conversations. Life isn't always easy for anyone and we have some recently diagnosed ASD and ADHD thrown into the mix. I love that they all get on so well. I think we are all quite looking forward to getting back to normal though. Bit of a last hurrah planned for tonight and then two are off back home on Tuesday 🛫

I have plans for setting the house to rights and a once a for all in the garden which looking a bit neglected. I think a great big list is in order, or I'll end up letting another year pass me by.

I am back to my career break - can't really call it retirement but we've decided that I'll revisit work at Easter, as some of you wise ones recommended already. Many reasons, but we've concluded that I am of more value at home/helping mum/supporting other family than the pittance that part time care work brought in.

Best wishes to all!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/12/2023 14:15

Frosty, it feels good to make a decision, doesn't' it? Great start to the New Year.👏

My plan today: survive.
And make pancakes for breakfast.

RunningKatie · 31/12/2023 17:35

Pancakes sounds ambitious @Mumtobabyhavoc - hope all is going ok.

We're seeing 2023 out with board games, beige buffet food and no tech! The dc are surprisingly fine with this, although the night is young and a rebellion may still occur.

I hope you all have a peaceful NYE however you spend it.

FrostyFogg · 31/12/2023 17:45

A decision does feel good @Mumtobabyhavoc Thank you! I hope you did survive the day and I hope you have some support.

Sounds like a peaceful way to see in the New Year @RunningKatie I hope the children continue to behave!

Mr Frosty and I are off to mum's to eat with her and probably watch old TV programmes on catch up. Doubt we'll manage to see midnight in with her but she's always been a night owl and is likely to want to try, so we shall see!

I have achieved very little today 😳

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/01/2024 02:07

Made coconut choc chip pancakes for late lunch. Had a bit of pistachio spread , strawberries, banana and maple syrup with them.
The survival part of the day was napping with both dc. Baby on my chest, toddler snuggled up beside. Was bliss. 🩷

WinterLobelia · 01/01/2024 08:25

@Mumtobabyhavoc those pancakes sound amazing!!! I hope you had wonderful snuggles with baby and toddler and that you are getting some decent rest as well. Happy New Year!!!!!

@FrostyFogg best wishes to you and yours. Your time with your family sounds wonderful. Hope they are all okay and safe travels to the young'uns. Thanks I think you are wise to revisit the work idea in Easter.

Otherwise I am very keen to really sort the house and garden out like our esteemed @FrostyFogg Smile. Today though I aim just to keep things ticking over and to write some list.s

Thanks to everyone. I wish you all and your loved ones a peaceful and joyful 2024 with improvements in health and happiness for each and every one of you.

Peridot1 · 01/01/2024 08:44

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you lovely people.

Definitely sounds like a sensible decision @FrostyFogg.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - your nap with both sounds lovely. Wishing you many more of them.

I need some lists too @WinterLobelia. Won’t happen just yet though.

We still have visitors until tomorrow so things are a bit all over the place. The dishwasher deserves a five star holiday somewhere nice after they’ve all gone!

Today will be emptying and reloading the dishwasher (multiple times no doubt),a general tidy round and vacuum and maybe a bit of a walk.

Aria999 · 01/01/2024 08:52

Happy new year everyone!

We went to a lovely party with all the aunts, uncles and cousins on DH side at SIL and BIL's house from 3-9pm then back to MIL's to put the kids to bed, followed by a rather quiet and desultory staying up with just me and DH as MIL decided to go to bed and we couldn't persuade the TV to give us Disney plus.

This morning I need to stop lolling around with my coffee and pack, a process which will be made much easier if the inside of the bags is discovered to be bigger than the outside...

RunningKatie · 01/01/2024 18:43

Happy new year all, I'm lounging on the sofa, did a long dog walk this morning and a duty family visit this pm. One more day of annual leave left which I've kept quiet about so we don't have to see anyone. We're going for a swim and to the library and just relaxing, unfortunately I've also managed to book in for PT at 8am which is a bit giddy.
I'm also going to go wild and sort out my sock drawer, out with the old and in with the new etc.!

FrostyFogg · 01/01/2024 20:05

Baby and toddler snuggle envy here! Those were the days 💕 Pleased you're able to relax.

Love reading all your news! I'm knackered! I have achieved a long walk, a mum visit with offspring so she's very happy and roast beef for our tea 😋 My beloved is washing up, 'kids' are packing and I have my feet up with a cat and a glass of red.

Up early tomorrow to get to Gatwick, then home and resetting house. Loved having them here but we're looking forward to being old codgers and they are looking forward to being at home again. No place like home!

Hugs all round xx

Peridot1 · 02/01/2024 09:08

Morning all.

Not much planned here for today. Our visitors leave at lunchtime. And I’m planning on doing nothing this afternoon except lying on the sofa reading a book and eating chocolate! Will miss them but like @FrostyFogg also looking forward to a quiet house. We stay up too late and drink far too much when they are here.

Impressed at your early PT session @RunningKatie. I have one booked for tomorrow. Have asked her to be gentle with me! I’ve done nothing for a month.

SingleThreadJoiner · 02/01/2024 10:44

Happy new year everyone, and happy new baby @Mumtobabyhavoc! Very pleased for you that all went well and you are snuggling at home.

I'm at my parents' house where there are always a hundred little jobs to be done, and people to see, and little time to rest. Yesterday we blitzed a couple of random boxes of random stuff at the bottom of the wardrobe and ended up with charity, selling, gifting, and using piles - very satisfying.

Counting down the days to the start of school though... Just me?!?

SpiritOfEdna · 02/01/2024 11:28

Happy New Year everyone x I am so ready for a list today; all the visitors have gone, the house has been stripped of all the christmas decorations and today is my first day back at work. I have spent/wasted much of the morning looking for my sodding phone - finally found it, so I can get on with the things on my list I need the phone for.... I have a fairly meeting light day today so all good.

  • new finance spreadsheet for 2024 - DONE
  • sort out a balance xfer card before end of month
  • empty dishwasher
  • ironing
  • put hoover away
  • tidy up after the havoc of looking for phone
  • walk SpiritDoggo - although our normal walks are very soggy and waterlogged - dog will be happy me not so.
All boring stuff, but needs must today, have a good day all, SoE

I've collapsed into a heap. Miserable wet windy drive to Gatwick and back. I did not like it but kept a smile on my face as i did not want to scare my sweet daughter in law! They are very chilled about flying in this- I would not be!

Pleased you found your phone @SpiritOfEdna I tucked DH's clobber away so that we could use the dining room over the holiday. This morning he could not find his very important work notebook that I had quite sensibly filed in one of several book cases. There was nearly chaos but luckily I had a notion of where to tell him to look. Preparing for work the night before would be too organised for this man. This is why I do not normally touch his desk!

A great big hello to you all 👋

I need to decompress a little as i have been fighting feeling overwhelmed. I may nap this aftenoon. Might do a big windy walk too, for a brain reset. I also feel a big vat of soup coming on. Chopping and stirring is so calming. That is likely to be all for today!

RunningKatie · 02/01/2024 20:23

Today did not go entirely to plan, the road we needed to go on to get to the fancy swimming pool was closed, so google maps diverted us, straight back onto it. We returned home 1hr45m later, having failed on our mission. If there'd been less rain or if I'd been in dh's car then I'd have navigated myself but my car plus no satnav just wasn't a good combo.
Anyway, came home, we demolished a chocolate orange and watched a film instead.
I've just cleared a path to my desk so I can work tomorrow, and we've sorted a summer holiday. Excellent work!

FrostyFogg · 03/01/2024 08:38

Your posts make me smile @RunningKatie 😊
I love the ways with words that all our project comrades have. Thank you for brightening my mornings 💐

So today I have a couple of errands to run and I was planning to take mother out but the weather is quite extreme here. I'll probably just drop in and have a coffee with her. I cannot park right outside her door and she is not speedy at all. Also tiny so i fear her being blown away!

And then...I plan to return home and do a big brain dump journal. And a list! So much to do around the place and I get overwhelmed, which is of course why I hopped on these threads in the first place.

We're not cluttered or hoarded, but there are many ways that the house could be better maintained and more homely, and rooms better utilised. I'd love our dining room back permanently, but we also need two functioning spare bedrooms, as they are used regularly. Wfh was going to be a 2 day a week thing but it's become one day in office per month so we need to keep it practical.

Best wishes to you all 💕

WinterLobelia · 03/01/2024 09:10

Morning all!

Windy this way also. I nearly got blown over walking across the Aldi supermarket yesterday!! As in I had to hold onto the trolley bay to stop myself falling. It was pretty extreme.

Hope everyone is well. Such an annoyance for you @RunningKatie all that effort and not able to get to the pool!

Today I am intending to be extremely active (albeit... cough cough... I am still in bed) and treat housework like a working day. Starting in about 10 minutes. I a going to pretend that I am the full time housekeeper of my own house and go around and clean and clear and put Christmas decorations away and clean the windows and polish the switches and just go all out. That is the plan anyway..... we'll see if it pans out!! With any sort of luck I'll find the one missing present I lost that was destined for DS. Hmm

Hope everyone has a great day. Hope @Mumtobabyhavoc is enjoying max snuggles with littlestbabyhavoc.

Love to all. Thanks

Peridot1 · 03/01/2024 12:09

Morning all.

I had my first PT session in a month this morning. I am shattered. And I don’t think I will be able to walk or lift anything tomorrow.

Today’s list:

  • general tidy for cleaners - done
  • strip a bed - done
  • wash bedding - done
  • washing
  • take Christmas cards down
  • sort through pile of magazines in living area

I think that will be it. Tomorrow we will get boxes down from loft and start taking Christmas decorations down.

SpiritOfEdna · 03/01/2024 13:54

Afternoon, just had the dog out for a walk. The daft dog picked up a rogue ball and dropped her ball and the new one in the river and was refusing to come out until she had both in her mouth - I could see her ducking like she was doing bob apple but also drifting downstream and I thought I might have to go in and get her! She eventually responded to me bellowing at her and got out.
It is called a river, but is only about 10 foot wide at this point and normally not too deep, but, well, the rain. She is snoozing under my feet and was happy enough to have a sausage at the cafe.
Today, work is ramping up, but am doing random bits and pieces, I need to find a 'January' project that can take me to the end of the month

  • more ironing
  • tidy up back bedroom, we will have a guest there next weekend.
  • prep for tea later,
  • check the tyre size on one of the bikes to do an inner tube replacement
  • meal plan for the rest of the week, my trainer is off sick this week, so am hoping to be back to 'normal' before I start training again
  • order pilates socks
That's all for now, have a good rest of the day, SoE.

The rain is crazy isn't it? Our hallway looks like someone has had a mud bath in it.
Back to work today, I'm getting through my list punctuated with sorting out the dc who are so bored and have nothing to do etc. All my suggestions have been met with dramatic sighs.
I need to write a new to-do list, and make some 2024 plans.

WinterLobelia · 03/01/2024 15:33

Afternoon all.

I have just sat down after an epic 5 hours or so of tidying and decluttering and cleaning. The place looks- better. Tomorrow I am back to a classic Daily Project- which will be to locate - and purchase- a lightbulb for a new table lamp I bought. It's a sage green glass lamp which will go nicely in the spare room.

@SpiritOfEdna from your description I guess that SpiritDoggo is either a spaniel or a labrador. I am very glad she got herself out of the river without harm and I am sure the cafe sausage filled the spot.

Best wishes to you all!
