and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Whoooo @Peridot1 congratulations! I got it first go once, when the word was 'music'. Today I got it in three. I'm loving connections too. More often than not I get it now, but I struggled at first.

Procrastination is a big part of ADD overwhelm I think. I'm doing it now. Again 😳 I have Flyladys voice in my ear saying do it now, so I'm off to make my sink shiny and go from there. I can't just start with the bedroom - oh no! I've just made my (valid) excuses to the ancient parent as to why I can't visit today so that is one less thing to clog my brain. (Caveat, we will, and have, dropped everything to go to her aid if it's necessary)

Thunderinglightly · 21/11/2023 11:13

petalpower · 21/11/2023 11:07

Oh my word @Peridot1 Wordle in one is an immense achievement! I did it in 4 today and did the connections successfully.

Hallo lovely lady!

Peridot1 · 21/11/2023 11:46

@Thunderinglightly - I hadn’t really realised that about the procrastination. But it makes sense. I have so much to do I don’t know where to start, it all floats around in my brain and then I do nothing. I definitely need strategies.

i think this time of year doesn’t help as it makes me feel quite low. I’m not getting outside enough either which does help. As I can’t be motivated enough! It’s a vicious circle.

However brown bread is in the oven! I think it will be a bit crap as the recipe was rubbish. It was a handwritten one from my dad so I’m blaming him!

petalpower · 21/11/2023 13:26

Hello @Thunderinglightly !
Are you a list maker @Peridot1 ? When everything is whizzing around in my head it really helps. I start with a brain dump and then write a list for each day. I put regular things on there such as my exercise as well as household jobs and one off tasks. I know lists aren’t for everyone though.
This afternoon I need to clean the family bathroom, cut up and freeze the membrillo that I made yesterday with the quinces from the garden, make a casserole for the freezer and book a Christmas get together lunch.

Peridot1 · 21/11/2023 14:50

I do like a list @petalpower. I seem to have fallen out of the habit though. Will hunt out a notebook and start again.

RunningKatie · 21/11/2023 15:21

I have many lists, dh has a hatred of lists. We are a very mismatched pair at times!
DC1 has been to neurology today, booked in for a brain scan, purely precautionary - Dr seems confident it's all growing and hormonal changes.
Tonight I am off out, I suspect make up and smart clothes are expected. Feels a lot of effort but it will be fun when I'm there.

Aria999 · 21/11/2023 16:23

The To Do app is good for lists on your phone. I first got it when it was wunderlist then Microsoft bought it.

petalpower · 21/11/2023 17:08

Hope DC1 is ok @RunningKatie . Good that they’re being thoroughly checked. My DH isn’t a list maker either but he has the luxury of just having to concentrate on one thing at once and doesn’t need to bother with the mental load that many of us have. There was a really interesting article in the Telegraph at the weekend about list making - I remember being interested at the time but can’t remember the main upshot from it!! I used to use Wunderlist too @Aria999 but I’m more of a paper and pencil type. Each Friday I make the master list for the upcoming week from my diary and add to it as the week goes on.
Didn’t manage to get the family bathroom cleaned as the builder has put down a screed on the dining room floor and upstairs isn’t accessible until it goes off. Apparently it should only take two hours but it’s not looking hopeful at the moment. DD has helpfully left her only set of car keys upstairs in her room and needs to go out this evening. Hmmmm…..

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/11/2023 06:01

Best of luck with your DC @RunningKatie Thanks

Peridot1 · 22/11/2023 08:35

Hope DC’s scan goes ok @RunningKatie. And hope your night out was good.

I am definitely more pen and paper list maker rather than phone. Have decided to hunt out one of my any notebooks today and make some lists. I’ll start with a brain dump. And then a more detailed plan. I think part of the reason this thread helped me so much before to get things done was that I had lists on the go. The lists seem to have fallen by the wayside.

@petalpower - hope the screed dried!

Today’s list:

  • empty and reload dishwasher (done)
  • tidy round for cleaners
  • PT session at gym
  • find notebook
  • brain dump list
  • laundry
  • pack clothes items for returns

Have a great day all.

Thunderinglightly · 22/11/2023 10:54

Hi all! Best wishes for DC @RunningKatie!

I have ridiculous anxiety. The physical sensations rather than specific worries. I'm just off the phone to my mum and I'm feeling like I'm the one that's confused! Finding it really hard to concentrate on anything with the jitters.

I have done most of my morning routine just got to decide on dinner. Then I'm going to do a brain dump on paper, and then, despite it not being my volunteer day, I am going to help with the horses because I know mud, physical exercise and the gorgeous sight, smell and sound of them will put me at least half way to rights. I know I am very lucky to be able to do this.

But first, menu planning!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/11/2023 00:07

Just a quick hello! ☺️
I did more wall ding repair in hallway and bathroom and THEN I painted bathroom ceiling and one small wall. There was a bit of paint remaining on roller, so touched up one hall baseboard.
I'm back!!!! 🥳🥳🥳

SingleThreadJoiner · 23/11/2023 03:43

Hello all, sorry I disappeared, poorly child + major events at work, hopefully normal service resumes soon!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 23/11/2023 05:36

Morning all.

I am a paper list person too @Peridot1

Hope your DC is better @SingleThreadJoiner Thanks

@Mumtobabyhavoc I am in awe at how much you achieve! In contrast, I am very like our 19 year old new cat rescue. She is very large of tum and has a bad back and when she walks too many steps (i.e. 3 or 4) she flops onto her side on the floor and waits to be petted. I am definitely her in human version after doing a single chore.

@Thunderinglightly I hope so much that your horse cure helped with your anxiety. How are you feeling? Did the brain dump help to get to the causes? Thanks . I hope you feel much better. I don't (as of yet!!) have the chance to get out to horses much but I find lane swimming really helps me. Thanks

Menu planning! That is my favourite of all the household chores! I do it in themes though so Wednesdays are 'soup and bread'. Yesterday though I made a truly dire smug soup using the wrong sort of potato which broke down and made everything slimy so we were forced (FORCED! I tell you!!) to go to the pub and have burgers. And cheesecake. Poor DCs. Grin

Today is our wonderful cleaner day. She arrives in an hour so I am waiting until the household collective alarms go off at 6 am and then I can do the quick pre-cleaner tidy. Then school run and a lane swim then I am in the middle of a very large clothes declutter and charity shop.

I love this time of year. When things are getting darker and the house more cosy. A hot chocolate will feature this afternoon I am sure!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Hope @SpiritOfEdna 's Cornwall trip is going well!

petalpower · 23/11/2023 06:49

Lots of very early or middle of the night posts!
@Thunderinglightly I hope seeing the horses eased your anxiety and you’re feeling a bit better. Flowers
That must have been dreadful to have to go to the pub @OrangePumpkinLobelia.!
Nice to see you again @SingleThreadJoiner . Hope everything settles down for you soon.
Oh my word @Mumtobabyhavoc . Your achievements are amazing. Baby must be due at any time!
The screed finally went off, DH has got up very early to paint some tongue and groove panelling before the plumber arrives to install the new bathroom so I’m awake a bit earlier than normal. He helpfully sent the dog up so I was woken by a very enthusiastic spaniel jumping on me at 6.15am. I’ll be back later.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/11/2023 08:07

Petal, new bathroom! Big job! Hope it goes well. ☺️
Orange, I'm with you for hot chocolate. ☺️
I sympathize with your family trauma of burgers and cheesecake. Tragic. 😂
Single, sorry to hear dc is unwell. That is stressful enough without work piling on. Hang in there. 🩷

It's midnight and I've cleaned up after painting half of a hallway. Started once Havoc fell asleep which was almost 10pm. 😕
Was 2/3 done when Havoc woke up and I was deep in paint and couldn't go soothe. Total meltdown and so out of character (Havoc, not me😂)
Now I'm worried about how Havoc will cope when I'm in hospital next month. 😢
Any wise words to share?

Thunderinglightly · 23/11/2023 08:12

Morning! The horses did do the trick thank you. And I'm sitting up in bed with one cat on my lap and another at my feet so all is well in my world! My lap cat matches the description of your rescue cat @OrangePumpkinLobelia 💕
@Mumtobabyhavoc you are an inspiration! I struggle with not knowing where to start and you seem to just, well, start! Hope you're not going up and down ladders though *wags grandmotherly finger!

I hope you are having fun in Cornwall @SpiritOfEdna with Spiritdoggo and co.

I had to giggle at the slimy soup forcing you and your poor children to go the the pub @OrangePumpkinLobelia

@Peridot1 thank you for the brain dump reminder. Mine was helpful and I hope yours was too!

Hope all is ok @SingleThreadJoiner

Hello to @RunningKatie and anyone I've forgotten and lurkers! @autumnangel are you still with us? 💐

Thunderinglightly · 23/11/2023 08:21

Big hug @Mumtobabyhavoc Who is having Havoc when you're in hospital? 💐

RunningKatie · 23/11/2023 08:29

I was in for 2 nights when dc2 arrived @Mumtobabyhavoc and dc1 went for the PILs. She was absolutely fine, even though she'd only done a single night before and then came home to find a small pink noisy addition to the family. I definitely worried far more than she did!
We were discussing lists last night, and a friend has started HRT recently, said it was a revelation that her lists no longer panic her. I think I might need some of that!
I've hoovered through this morning, washing on, dishwasher emptied - now to start work. Have a good day all!

Thunderinglightly · 23/11/2023 08:50

I had my babies quite close together so it felt straightforward. Also my parents were close by so staying with them was familiar. Overnights weren't all that common but they did have a cot in their house which was used for naps when we/they were there. I realise from reading this forum just how lucky we were! I do hope it goes smoothly for you and your family @Mumtobabyhavoc

Interesting to read about your HRT friend and her lists @RunningKatie I've been pondering on talking to GP about chemical assistance of some sort, but I fear making things worse. Anxiety is really my only symptom and I can keep a handle on it most of the time. A good friend of mine swears by journalling so I'm going to try that. And also keep my phone off once I get up ( this staying in bed till 9am is not like me at all!)

petalpower · 23/11/2023 23:18

When I had my daughter my son was 2 @Mumtobabyhavoc . My parents came and stayed overnight but DH was home that night too as I had quite a speedy birth - went in at lunchtime and my husband went home in the evening as I was on the ward and partners get thrown out! DS was absolutely fine. It’s really dreadful but I can’t remember whether I was in hospital for 1 or 2 nights. It’s all a bit of a long time ago now as DD is 21! Who is looking after Havoc when you have the new baby?

Thunderinglightly · 24/11/2023 08:21

Morning all! How is everyone today? I am up and dressed, have done my morning routine, we've all had breakfast and appropriate medication (pets included) Feeling more human today. Wordle in three, only got green and yellow on connections.
Off out for a smug walk to blow remaining cobwebs away (may drive to the seafront for a proper blast of cold air!)
And my plan of action then is to finally get bedroom sorted for next month's visitors (as next month is next week!!)

Happy Friday everyone 💕

Peridot1 · 24/11/2023 09:02

Morning all.

@Thunderinglightly - sorry to see you were feeling anxious. It may definitely be worth talking to the GP if it is menopause related. A few friends were really felled by anxiety and depression coming into menopause. HRT really helped.

My brain dump definitely helped. I sat and did it with a g&t while DH was cooking which also helped!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - in awe of your painting. It always seems like a huge task to me. Can you make sure Babyhavoc has lots of time with whoever is looking after them while you are in hospital so they are used to them and the routines etc.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia - my sympathies on your emergency pub dinner!

@petalpower - a new bathroom sounds exciting. I bet you will be very pleased when it’s all over.

I am feeling a bit better in myself. Doing my list helped. Getting out helped. I hadn’t been out of the house for a few days which isn’t good. So I went to the gym on Wednesday and had a lovely chat with my PT. And yesterday I went shopping and had lunch out - M&S Cafe so nothing too exciting but a toasted sandwich and a cup of tea and a mince pie with a Christmassy book on my Kindle was lovely. Got some Christmas shopping done which is helping me feel more in control.

Today I’m off to the gym again and I need to deposit a cheque into a bank. Helpfully all the branches near me are closed down so need to travel a bit.

Today’s list:

  • towel wash
  • general wash
  • put laundry away
  • Gym
  • bank (although may leave this till Monday as could combine with a shopping trip)
  • Put advent wreath together to see if DH needs to get some things from the attic
  • deal with pile of things on chair

Have a good day all.

petalpower · 24/11/2023 12:27

Glad you’re feeling a bit better @Peridot1. I think exercise and lists are the key plus the G and T of course! Hope you enjoyed your walk @Thunderinglightly . It was cold but bright and lovely for my dog walk this morning.
Our building work is coming on quickly now. It’s an extension of a lobby, a shower room and another room. We’ve taken out the existing downstairs bathroom and removed a wall to take the dining room back to its original proportions (very old house). The floor has had to come up in the dining room too. Everywhere is covered in dust and building detritus but it will be worth it in the end. This stage has been going on since the start of August and should be finished by Christmas fingers crossed. It feels like every room in the house is affected with either work going on or piles of tools and building materials. First world problems I know so I shouldn’t complain.

Aria999 · 24/11/2023 13:01

Hi everyone!

Sorry to hear about the smug soup failure @OrangePumpkinLobelia I didn't realize there was such a thing as the wrong type of potato for soup! Hope you all enjoyed the totally unavoidable pub dinner 🤣

Glad the building work is getting there @petalpower fingers crossed it's finished soon! Our under stairs cupboard is done and I love it. Who would have thought putting Hoovers away could be so exciting?!

M&s lunch sounds lovely and relaxing @Peridot1😊 . 'Deal with pile of things on chair' is very much the kind of list item that depressingly stays on my list for ages...

Glad you are feeling better @Thunderinglightly . Yes December any minute, yikes!

Amazing painting @Mumtobabyhavoc ! DS was just turned 4 when DD was born so a bit older but he was fine with his dad for a few days. We got him a present 'from' the new baby to help make it exciting.

Hope travel is going ok @SpiritOfEdna

Hi @RunningKatie @SingleThreadJoiner !

Yesterday was thanksgiving; DH made us breakfast in bed then we went for a hike, and then had supper at home with the DC. (Thai roast chicken for us and 2 different kinds of chicken nuggets for the DC 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️)

No plans for today. I need a list but find it almost impossible to accomplish anything while DC are in my midst.
