I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

So much going on! Hello everyone! And belated happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it! I love pumpkin pie, and my H makes a truly excellent one, so I enjoyed some yesterday (with the help of the D who was still at home).

So much has happened in the past few days with all you busy bees 🐝apologies for not replying to everyone's individual achievements...But a couple of things -

@Mumtobabyhavoc , I only have one so don't have specific experience to share about the childbirth going away, but I do think in general they are better when we are unavailable because we are physically absent from the house - if we are just elsewhere but busy (or in the middle of painting!) it's frustrating, but if they know we are just not to be had, they turn to whoever else IS there and ready to play...most of the time at least 😅

@Aria999 I am glad to hear my child is not the only one with a major crafting problem 😆

@petalpower my husband LOVES the idea of Christmas cards, we have a whole list of family and friends and dutifully send them out every year - and to be fair, receive quite a few too. I think because it's often the only time of the year he communicates with some of the cousins he cares about but isn't quite so close to.

And major love and support for the list-makers!!! I live in lists - and yet I am still always behind. I have a notebook for work lists which is divided into 9 categories (for the different projects I'm supposed to be keeping track of) - that might be excessive!

Happily D is back at school today, was off for only two days in the end - has an ear infection and got a spray from the GP so that seems to be helping a lot. It's been hard to get much done while she was around, but I did manage a bit of laundry, and lots of admin around the playgroup I co-manage, and some PTA stuff, so that's good enough for now!

Sorry for the long post and happy Friday/weekend

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2023 15:11

Morning everyone. 🙂
Been awake since 4:30... ugh (it's now 7am).
Thank you for the kind comments. I might have just a bit of anxiety now that new baby will be here soon. Havoc is really quite well balanced, so am thinking it was a one-off for the most part.
However, the insight shared here has helped a lot. ❤

No tasks yesterday. Took Havoc to see Christmas lights early evening after an afternoon of errands. Since I'm on no sleep right now it might just be a play day today. Except for laundry which never ends....
Glad dc is on the mend, ear aches are awful, Single, I had many as a child.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2023 18:16

So far have washed and hung up a load of laundry and have got a 2nd load in the wash; and cleaned the sink, counter, mirror and toilet in the bathroom. 😁

petalpower · 24/11/2023 22:55

The problem with Christmas cards @SingleThreadJoiner is that it’s my job to write and send all the cards. About 120 last year. It takes ages and is very expensive now. 75p I think for a second class stamp. One of my lists is who reciprocated last year (and for years before that too). I think I may start a prune of cards to send based on this. I feel sure DH won’t notice!
Another one recommending HRT @Thunderinglightly if you feel you need a bit of something. I’ve been on patches for over a year and they’ve made a huge difference.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 25/11/2023 05:02

Morning all.

My policy on Christmas cards has changed over the years. Now I tend to send to people I know place great store in them such as some family members and family friends. Otherwise I might send a short e-mail or facebook message to people with whom I really do want to stay in touch.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. We are away this weekend. I booked us a little trip at a nearby country hotel with swimming pool and walks etc just as a little break after my longer trip away. We got an amazing last minute deal so I could not resist!

Peridot1 · 25/11/2023 08:53

Morning all. Frosty here this morning.

Im sure BabyHavoc will be fine @Mumtobabyhavoc. As @SingleThreadJoiner says if we are not physically there they tend to be better with others.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia enjoy your weekend away! Sounds lovely.

@petalpower - I hear you on the Christmas cards. Postage is so expensive now. I’ve cut down drastically. And think I’ll cut down further this year. Most of our village seem to do cards to neighbours but thankfully that’s just a nice walk around the village delivering them.

@Aria999 - the pile on the chair is untouched! I think it’s mainly magazines. I seem to have bought quite a few Xmas ones this year and a few when I was in the US.

I got a couple of things done from the brain dump list yesterday. Put my advent candle display together and then realised I’m a week early and first Sunday of Advent is not this week!

Today is DH’s birthday so I’m on cooking duty tonight. He has requested lamb shanks which we thought we had in the freezer but it appears we don’t so I need to go shopping. And we need to take the dog to the vet this morning for her monthly jab.

I also have a pile of papers from my Dad that I need to quickly go through and make sure nothing is needed and then dispose of. A job for doing sitting on the sofa later I think.

have a great day all.

Thunderinglightly · 25/11/2023 10:10

Hello! Happy birthday to MrPeridot1. * *I love lamb shank! I have never cooked it though.

I would like to try HRT for all the benefits that are being discussed. Mum's bones are beginning to crumble- she's really shrunk over the last ten years. I discussed it with my GP about a year ago and should do so again, but for a list of reasons which probably aren't even relevant now, the thought of artificial hormones makes me anxious. I wrote and deleted a tmi paragraph but it made me realise that I don't trust my (or any) GP not to be too busy to dismiss my fears.

I'm also only giving cards to family members who still treasure the tradition (namely my mother and daughters) Nobody else seems to care much. A work colleague gave me a card last year and I did feel a bit caught on the hop.

I'm going to start lists to go with my journalling. You lot are such an inspiration!

But first I am going to change our bedsheets as ancient cat was sick on the duvet 🤮

Have a lovely weekend everybody xx

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 25/11/2023 15:50

I totally misread @Thunderinglightly ’s first sentence as Happy birthday Mr President. 😀

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 25/11/2023 15:53

Away but checking in briefly. Full autumn vibes here.

Thunder, I'd really look into getting a dexa scan and referral to endocrinologist (mum and you). GP's just don't typically know/do enough when it comes to advancing age in women. We shouldn't have to suffer the consequences.
https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/radiation/dexa-scan.html#:~:text=Related%20Pages,the%20hip%20and%20the%20spine.

My mum has osteo and that's the route she went. Takes vit D twice daily and a Prolia injection yearly. I did a dexa about 6 years ago for info (private pay) so I could be proactive. I've been lactose intolerant most of my life, so have consumed very little calcium rich dairy, for example. I am lower re bone density as it turns out, so I take vit D daily and luckily now with all the lactose-free dairy options I am able to have it in my diet more regularly. Strength training is crucial as well as it encourages body to build bone. Doesn't have to be crazy workouts, either. Osteo scares me because women die from complications from broken hips! Don't mean to freak you out, and I'm sure you know all this. (Getting off soap box). 🩷

Lamb shank...😛. Room for one more Peridot? I'll bring wine!
Gorgeous walk, Orange! 😃

Planning on a bit of painting today. Feeling motivated after 7 hrs sleep. 😁😁😁
Havoc, blissfully, is still asleep. I think I'll make a latte and have a croissant in peace for a bit. 😄

@Thunderinglightly have you looked at Dr Louise Newson’s website? She’s a menopause specialist and there’s loads of really sensible advice on there. It might help? Also, is there a menopause specialist at your surgery? We have a nurse who’s the go to person at ours and she’s excellent and very thorough. I use HRT patches which I’ve found really helpful and as someone who already takes quite a few tablets for my heart I needed to be careful and my cardiologist had to be consulted before I started.

RunningKatie · 25/11/2023 17:30

I'm under a blanket watching a Christmas movie. Ddog is keeping me company whilst DH is making dinner.
Today I've managed to find the chocolates I'd hidden for advent calendars, and put away some paperwork. We're having a quiet weekend, the dc are shattered, and it's somehow 25th November already!

Peridot1 · 26/11/2023 10:29

Lamb shanks were good! Although not as good as my normal recipe. DH picked the recipe for these.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - you would have been most welcome - especially with wine!

Thanks for the info re osteoporosis. I really must look into this.

@RunningKatie - under a blanket watching a Xmas movie sounds lovely! Putting that on my list for this week.

@petalpower - I will have a look at that website too. I think because I sailed through menopause I have felt I don’t need anything. But I definitely need to approach that from a position of knowledge.

I am having a bit of a lazy morning. Have tidied the kitchen and need to go and have a shower. Am going to a Christmas wreath making afternoon later at the school across the road. So will be making a wreath and drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies.

petalpower · 26/11/2023 15:03

Beautiful pictures @OrangePumpkinLobelia !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/11/2023 18:49

Glad to know dinner went well, Peridot. Feel free to share a recipe! 😛

I tidied the deck last night so it is almost ready for Christmas lights and tree. Prepped for painting part of the other wall in hallway. Didn't get as far as painting it as Havoc woke up and needed a lot of attention. So, I took it as a sign to wash up and go to bed myself. I'll sand the dings I repaired and am hoping the baseboard repair I did is good enough. It was a bit challenging as it was a corner that had opened creating an unsightly gap. I taped each side and pressed spackle into the gap and smoothed it before removing tape. Fingers crossed it will only need a light sanding and paint. 🤞

petalpower · 27/11/2023 09:44

What have you all got planned for today? Horrible wet day here so my early dog walk was a bit soggy. Dad and stepmother have been staying for a few days so we are visiting care home auntie this afternoon. Need to get a few little jobs done this morning at home and go to the post office to send another eBay parcel and fill my car up with diesel.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 27/11/2023 10:00

Morning @petalpower . I am clearing rooms for the new carpets which are due to arrive on Friday! It’s very tedious but hopefully will be worth it!

hope the visiting all goes very well. 🙂

Peridot1 · 27/11/2023 10:14

Morning all. It’s a. It soggy here today too @petalpower. Our dog can’t do walks anymore which I’m quite glad of sometimes. I’ll take her for a wander in the garden in a bit.

Impressive DIY skills as always @Mumtobabyhavoc. The lamb shanks recipe was a Jamie Oliver one - Burns Night Lam Shanks I think. DH found it online. I wasn’t overly impressed. I’ll hunt out the one I like better which I think I found on Pinterest.

Happy furniture moving @OrangePumpkinLobelia. It will be so worth it when it’s all done I’m sure!

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday over at the local school for a Christmas wreath making workshop. Pretty pleased with my effort although I have just had to try to even it up as one side was fuller than the other. Maybe I should have had less mulled wine while I was doing it!

Today I should go to the gym but I’m not really in the mood. I am in the mood to get something done in the house though so need to decided what. Sorting through pictures with DH and possibly getting some up on the walls or washing windows. Both jobs I want to get done this week before we start decorating for Christmas next week. Decisions decisions! Just having a cup of tea while I decide.

Aria999 · 27/11/2023 15:32

Hi everyone!

I put the Christmas tree up. Normally we wait till December but DH is away 6-11 and then we are all flying to Uk on 18th so there isn't going to be much December at home.

Today the kids are back at school after thanksgiving so after I put the groceries away I need to look for work, tidy the house and have a nap!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/11/2023 17:05

Yeah, Aria! I hope to do same today! 😄

SpiritOfEdna · 27/11/2023 19:44

Hello, back from my annual trip to Cornwall. Weather was crisp and clear so SpiritDoggo had free run of every beach we went to - she was so happy. GreatNephew was ecstatic to see us - unfortunately he got a bit miserable mid week with toothache and subsequently has had a visit to the dentist. Poor thing, but he had a lovely birthday, and SpiritDoggo was very gentle with him.

We wandered around Padstow Harbour, then St Ives where I got attacked by a gang of seagulls - one took the brownie out of my hand, whilst another distracted me by landing on my head!

I loved the Tate at St Ives. Where else did we go - Bodmin Jail and then off to the moors and the Daphne Du Maurier museum - which was very atmospheric. Lots of lovely dinners out, so came back very relaxed. It makes such a difference if it's not raining last year we ended up indoors watching the World Cup as it was constantly tipping it down and baltic.

Off to read back what everyone is up to, and back to list making tomorrow 😄

Ooh new carpets @OrangePumpkinLobelia . A big job with having to move furniture. I’m sure it will make a big difference. How many rooms are affected?
The wreath making sounds lovely and festive @Peridot1 . How old is your dog? Mine is only three and very bouncy so he’s on two walks a day.

petalpower · 27/11/2023 19:49

Your trip sounds fab @SpiritOfEdna . I love Cornwall and spent all my summer holidays there as a child.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/11/2023 05:36

After napping all afternoon (had been awake 4am-7am) after taking Havoc to gymnastics,
managed to get some tasks done after dinner:
more prep of hallway wall and sanding of spackle; had to do more repair on baseboard 🤦‍♀️
took boxes out of storage room to find Christmas lights which I have moved to living room to sort
vacuumed
vacuumed car
took garbage out including a few things from storage
moved and sorted a couple boxes
tidied a bedroom
removed, washed and dried bathroom dehumidifier cover and put back on
cleared out too small clothes from Havoc's dresser and packed into a box for sorting to charity and to keep for new baby
washed new washcloths, old ones to be used as baby diaper wipes for home
have put a 2nd load of laundry in and may gat a 3rd load in before bed
All done in about 2.5 hours.
Taking a break then bath, wash hair and bed.
😅🥱

edited to add:
folded and put away two loads laundry that had been hanging up and nagging at me for two days.
