I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

So so sorry to hear this news @Aria999

SingleThreadJoiner · 16/11/2023 21:27

I am so sorry to hear that @Aria999 . It is a comfort of sorts that your H was there. Lots of hugs and strength for the days ahead 💐

Thunderinglightly · 17/11/2023 10:01

Thinking of you and your family this morning @Aria999 💐

Wishing you a smooth and safe trip home @OrangePumpkinLobelia!

I'm trying to get back to a daily routine that's non-negotiable ie making bed, washing done, mealtimes sorted etc - basically the flylady routine. Also the weekly routine, and then a daily thing on top. My life and home seem to end up getting chaotic quite quickly when I don't do it.

Today I have created an online account for mum's lasting power of attorney. To my shame I received the letter saying it had been registered and not fully read it so I thought that it was done - six months ago! It's activated now. I have also booked tickets for a show mum wants to see, so I'm feeling pretty smug!

Best wishes to you all!

Aria999 · 17/11/2023 16:25

That all sounds very sensible @Thunderinglightly !

I continue to faff and scroll Mumsnet. I may have phone addiction.

Have managed to:

Put some laundry on
Do some light tidying up
Sort the kitchen.

It's not enough.

Yesterday I did successfully dust the porch. The mask is a good idea against dust! I used one when I spray painted the bathroom shelf a while back and it really helped.

This afternoon I have this stupid job interview that I really don't want to do but pulling out feels a cop out.

Aria999 · 17/11/2023 16:45

I pulled out of the job interview. I feel better!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2023 04:52

Aria, glad you listened to your gut. The right thing will come along at the right time. ☺️

Thunderinglightly · 18/11/2023 07:41

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2023 04:52

Aria, glad you listened to your gut. The right thing will come along at the right time. ☺️

Yes I agree. Your emotions are probably all over the place too!

Thunderinglightly · 18/11/2023 07:52

@Aria999 I faff and scroll too! I am a phone addict and trying hard not to be.

@SpiritOfEdna have a lovely weekend. Hope you found something suitable to wear. I lovely the sound of a holiday in Cornwall plus dog! We are currently a dogless household. It will remain so while we have the cats, at least. Then it will be a choice of new carpets or a puppy. Not that I have informed DH of this. He thinks we will go animal free 🤫

You have been productive @RunningKatie And I am pleased your DC is feeling better.

👋 @Peridot1 @petalpower a
@SingleThreadJoiner @Mumtobabyhavoc @OrangePumpkinLobelia and anyone else I have missed!

I'm off to begin my daily routine after a nice lie in. Catch you all later ♥

Peridot1 · 18/11/2023 10:25

Morning all.

Sounds like the right decision @Aria999. And I so hear you on the phone addiction. Although in my case it’s the iPad but same result.

@SpiritOfEdna - enjoy your trip. Am sure dog will! We’ve never taken our dog away. DH was never keen for some reason. She is too old now anyway so he just gets to stay home with her while I gallivant around!

@Thunderinglightly - I’m the one here who doesn’t want another dog. DH does. We have agreed 3 years without once our dog goes but I can’t see myself wanting another.

I’m still here but not achieving much at the moment. Have hurt my neck/shoulder so having to be careful how I move. I think I did it at the gym on Wednesday. Knew exercise wasn’t good for me!

Our dog has been shedding like crazy so I’ve been brushing her everyday this week which has made a huge difference. Lots of vacuuming required! I have kept up with laundry but not putting away so am now at standstill until I put stuff away today as otherwise all the baskets are full.

MIL is trying to sort her will and power of attorney but she makes everything very complicated and doesn’t listen or explain anything very well so it’s all difficult. I’m the go-between as DH gets frustrated. So a few phone calls to try to figure all of that out. We need to go to see her but DH is reluctant. She is his step mother.

Today’s list

  • put washing away
  • supermarket trip
  • make Christmas gravy

Have a great day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 18/11/2023 15:08

I lost my post 😭I was wishing everyone a happy weekend, and hoping that everyone was holding up ok at @Aria999 's...

Sigh. What else? Parents here since Tuesday - super helpful with childcare - even managed to go out with H last night and D fell asleep with my mom, for the first time EVER in her 4-and-a-bit years 🎉🎉🎉

Also massive amounts of tidying, re-arranging cupboards in lots rooms. Made piles of things to give to charity shop, to give to my cousin to sell on Vinted, and to pass on to other local families. Very cathartic.

Also organised and got a good sense of my stocks of spare presents for any future parties, and all the hoarded spare crafting supplies for D - I must NEVER EVER buy any more, I have enough for several years!! 😂

We even sorted through the Tupperware drawer and were very pleasantly surprised to discover that almost all of them did actually have matching lids - we only had to throw away a few spare lids.

All in all, an extremely productive week....I will not reach these heights again for many months!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 19/11/2023 03:34

Morning all.

I am now back! (And suffering from jetlag).

Exhausted but very much looking forward to getting back into the swing of things at home. While i was away i plotted some garden projects and weather permitting they begin...... [looks at clock].... in about 7 hours.

I hope everyone is well and fine. I agree with others @Aria999 that if dumping the job interview made you relieved then it was most definitely the right decision! I hope you are all fine as well.

🌻to everyone!

petalpower · 19/11/2023 09:27

Well done for sorting out the online LPA @Thunderinglightly . I have it for auntie but need to sort it for my dad - I suspect we will need to use his soon as he isn’t doing so well with his dementia and now has another health issue that is being investigated quite urgently.
Welcome back @OrangePumpkinLobelia . I always do lots of thinking and planning when I’m away too.
Have a great trip away @SpiritOfEdna . Hope you sorted the warm jumpers out.
I agree that it was a good plan to pull out of the interview @Aria999 . You’ve got enough going on at the moment.
Impressive achievements @SingleThreadJoiner ! What a difference it makes having some additional childcare help. You were really on a roll there.
How many weeks have you got to go now @Mumtobabyhavoc ? Baby must be nearly ready to pop out!
You’re very organised getting the Christmas gravy made already @Peridot1 . How’s your neck and back doing? I find ibruprofen gel really good for things like that rather than the tablets. Sounds like a bit of a trial for your DH with his step mother.
We have DS staying for the weekend which is lovely. I really like it when everyone is at home together. Managed to pin him down on Christmas presents so just DD to go. Everything else is pretty much bought apart from a few stocking presents. Next weekend we (hopefully) have my dad and stepmother staying and they will take presents back home to DH family who live close by. I need to assemble the hampers for DH brothers and wives and wrap other presents for that side of the family. Do you all still send Christmas cards? I noticed there weren’t that many in the shops and wonder if it’s because stamps are now so expensive. I still send them and love receiving them but am starting to think a bit more carefully about which ones can be handed over in person.
Have a great day everyone.

petalpower · 19/11/2023 09:31

Forgot to mention you there @RunningKatie . Glad your DC is better. Dare I ask if the school issues are any better at the moment? There is a therapy dog that visits the care home every week too. The residents just love him. Petaldog is too lively to take in but plenty of other families take their dogs to visit. We may take my dad’s lovely calm Labrador to visit auntie next weekend.

Peridot1 · 19/11/2023 10:54

Morning all.

Sounds like lots achieved at your house @SingleThreadJoiner!

Welcome back @OrangePumpkinLobelia! I lose interest in the garden at this time of year. We have lots we could be getting on with though.

@petalpower - back/neck is a bit better today thanks. Ended up taking some ibuprofen and sitting with a heat pack on in the afternoon which helped a lot. I do have some ibuprofen gel so will give that a go in a bit.

DH made the gravy in the end as I was in pain - drove to the supermarket which wasn’t a good idea as neck was agony when I came back. It probably wasn’t safe either! It’s Jamie Oliver’s make ahead gravy and we haven’t tried it for a few years but decided to try again. Two meals worth now in the freezer.

Nice to have your DS home. Ours is home too. Must try to pin him down on Christmas present ideas. He doesn’t need anything though!

I brushed the dog again and vacuumed about three times. She looks a lot better. Still shedding a lot though.

Today will be a quiet one. I’ve descaled the kettle and replaced the filter in it and the water filter. Otherwise just planning on getting up to date with reading Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chronicles and planning an advent candle wreath. I have a few bits to try to put together into something nice!

Have a lovely Sunday all.

Thunderinglightly · 19/11/2023 12:47

I have enjoyed reading all your posts this morning! 😊
We have a busy day today so I have just stopped for a breather. Happy to report that i have done my 'routines ' (extremely early too as was out of the door at 06.15 today!)
Off to a little birthday party shortly. I am doing the elderly mother wrangling today.
The house is looking better for just 2½ days of sticking to it.
Dinner's in the slow cooker so I'm feeling smug.
Small project is empty out general grot from my car as I'll be driving to the party with my special cargo. Off to do it.

Welcome back @OrangePumpkinLobelia

Best wishes to all 💕

Aria999 · 19/11/2023 13:11

Hi everyone! Thanks for your kind thoughts. You are all so lovely!

@RunningKatie glad the dc are better, I missed that. Intend to find when I clear out creams etc that there's a slight smell of wrongness and I get paranoid about how many years they have been there and end up throwing them away. May be overdue for another such session!

Ouch @Peridot1 hope your neck is better soon. That can be so debilitating. Break from dogs sounds like a good compromise, maybe after 3 years he will have got used to the freedom! I initially read your last post as you vacuumed the dog 3 times 🤣

@SingleThreadJoiner that sounds incredibly organized! Crafting supplies is an ongoing headache for us too. DS used to keep them all in a big box but it kind of overflowed and ate his bedroom. Rearranged recently and now he still has the box for crafted objects and also has two entire large two-drawer units entirely dedicated to crafting supplies...

Welcome back @OrangePumpkinLobelia hope you enjoyed your trip? Happy gardening!

@petalpower I gave up on Christmas cards aged about 19 😳. My dad uses it as a way to keep in touch with people but I think it's easier to use Facebook!

Glad you are getting the house under control @Thunderinglightly !

I'm having a rare moment of coffee in bed while the DC are downstairs with the iPad. Need to get going in a minute.

Today we are going to a holiday market with a new mum acquaintance, and I hope in the afternoon we can finally tidy up DC rooms a bit. Meant to yesterday but ended up going to the park instead.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 20/11/2023 05:16

Morning all.

Such busy days here! I hope the birthday party went well and your mum is okay @Thunderinglightly

Crafting supplies!! I have a big plastic box and am loathe to throw them out so they live under the side board in the dining room looking 'lovely' in all their plasticky gloriousness.

Thanks @Aria999 I did enjoy the trip. It was a mixture of family obligation and relaxation but more of the former. But I feel like things were achieved both here and there. DH and the Dcs coped marvellously on their own- a very great deal better than expected. I take on such an enormous amount of the mental management and we have all gotten used to that dynamic but they pulled together and I think it served to bring them closer and I am going to step back more in my daily life I think and let DH do things his way.

Jet lag did hit and i was very weary yesterday so no gardening. Dh pointed out at one point i had washed the kitchen floor around things like the washing basket rather than moving it as usual so i was not firing on all cylinders.

I am typing while watching a you tube channel I just discovered called Little Women Atelier. It is a family who are inspired (very inspired) by Little Women and the aesthetics of that and it is quite interesting and visually beautiful to see how they go about their lives. I just watched one on a Victorian christmas. I love watching youtube vloggers while I clean the house. It is a tremedous distraction.

@Peridot1 so sorry to hear of your neck and back pain. So debilitating and I hope you feel a very great deal better today. Thanks

Hope @petalpower your dad's health is okay. Thanks

Hi to everyone I missed and a wave to any lurkers. Smile

Thank you all also for this lovely peaceful and comforting corner of MN.

Peridot1 · 20/11/2023 08:10

@OrangePumpkinLobelia - I must admit to often washing the floors around things rather than moving them! 😄

The Little Women Atelier sounds really interesting. Must have a look. Loved the book growing up and read it often. I bought a book on the way back from the US a couple of weeks ago called “Marmee” which is about the mother in Little Woman. Looking forward to reading it and hope it’s good.

Neck is much better than it was but still not 100%. Was planning on going to the gym today but I think I will be better off waiting a couple of days.

@Aria999 - we used to have an attachment to our vacuum cleaner that was a dog brush and we regularly vacuumed the dogs! They loved it. Hope the holiday market was nice.

Not sure what I will attempt to get done today. Usual chores plus something! I need a list.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 21/11/2023 03:52

Grrrr. Insomnia is a pain!

I have a really busy day today too.

I love the idea of vacuuming the dogs!

I did hours of tidying today and decluttered my sock drawer that had all sorts of strange things in it. I ordered some clothes and shoes online. I did not do some of the life admin i need to catch up on.

Today I have alot of errands to run and then out to a school concert.

I hope everyone has a great day!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 21/11/2023 08:00

Morning again!

I have achieved alot of the neglected life admin now. paid off a portion of our easter trip (to Germany!! So excited). Made the seat selections. Updated my diary to take into account various social things. Booked DH blood tests. Cleaned up cat sick.

Now to crack on with housework while DH does school run.

Hope everyone has a very good day!

Peridot1 · 21/11/2023 08:09

Wow you have achieved a lot this morning already @OrangePumpkinLobelia! I get up early but sit in the sofa drinking tea for hours before doing anything remotely useful.

Thunderinglightly · 21/11/2023 10:21

@Peridot1 I really struggle with sitting on the sofa and drinking tea for hours,
despite being up before six most days. So when i write about having done jobs early or while the kettle is boiling, it's because I'm over excited at my brilliance 😂 I am not a natural!

Sorry about the jet lag insomnia @OrangePumpkinLobelia but what achievements you have....achieved! I do like the way you casually dropped in the cleaning up of cat sick though.

I had a little look at the Little Women Atelier videos. They are beautiful but I felt a little bit inadequate, so I had to go and read threads on adhd diagnoses in middle aged women in order to to feel better. I'm currently battling the chaos in my brain and would love to be able to take medication to combat it (Dd is onconconcerta at it has changed her life enormously) I just tend to think that Ishould just be able to keep to routines (and I can, right up till someone throws a spanner in the work)

Sigh!

Thunderinglightly · 21/11/2023 10:39

I'm sorry @Peridot1 I meant to post that in solidarity and it turned into a bit of a me me me post. What i meant was, yeah, I get it! 💐 I think we both need a list!

I have so much to do and there is a time limit as I have my son and his wife coming to stay. The bedroom they will stay in is currently not fit for purpose. I am not coping because the Flylady website is down and she is where I turn 😢 Even though I know it inside out have loosely followed for 15 years 🙈

I admire those of you getting craft stuff under control. All you busy mums! @Aria999 a trip to the park sounds more fun than bedroom tidying anyway! Lovely to hear you also got a bit of peace on Sunday morning!

Hello to everyone else! I really must get going properly so will catch up on the other posts later 💕

Peridot1 · 21/11/2023 10:57

@Thunderinglightly - I think there may be an element of ADD here too. Or more likely ADPD. Where the P stands for Procrastination! And at this time of year my motivation to do anything just disappears. It’s not a good combination.

But today started off with a win as I got Wordle in 1! Which DH helpfully told me isn’t an indication of skill. No shit Sherlock!

Today I have cleaned one shelf in the fridge, emptied the dishwasher and put some washing on. I also want to make some soda bread and tidy the kitchen surfaces and maybe maybe maybe do some ironing. Or go shopping.

petalpower · 21/11/2023 11:07

Oh my word @Peridot1 Wordle in one is an immense achievement! I did it in 4 today and did the connections successfully.
