and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

DC2 is poorly today, think they are just wiped out by a busy weekend, but giving them a quiet sofa day just in case. They were a very funny shade of yellow earlier which was worrying.
Last night I ironed and managed to get ski gloves. Tonight I'm going to tack together the two halves of an all season duvet. The poppers just do not hold it together and it ends up like a sausage, every night! This may be a cunning excuse to sit and watch Bake Off too.
Hope everyone is safe after Storm Debi.

petalpower · 14/11/2023 13:10

I just mis-read that you ironed ski gloves @RunningKatie ! 😂

RunningKatie · 14/11/2023 14:56

My MIL probably would @petalpower - if she ever came to help out when the dc were small I had to hide the ironing & washing. Her ironing my knickers was very definitely a one off situation!

petalpower · 14/11/2023 15:11

Oh my word - ironing knickers is quite extreme @RunningKatie ! Tacking the duvet together sounds like a good plan and perfect for doing in front of Bake Off.
Today I’ve found out that you can freeze raw butternut squash. I moved my mammoth crop from the open bit of the garage this morning ready to store them but several had some squishy bits so I will need to freeze them in chunks. A job for tomorrow I think.

Aria999 · 14/11/2023 15:40

Hi everyone!

Made not-very-smug soup yesterday (in my haste I omitted the onions and lentils I had intended to put in it so we will see if it is edible).

DS7 has been keeping me up for the past 3 nights with stomach ache. It's intermittent and only seems to happen at night. Doctor says he can't find anything the matter and to ease off on Halloween candy for a bit, which we are doing.

So I am feeling a bit all over the place at the moment. I have an interview for a job this morning which is probably not going to work out as they will probably not be up for negotiating part time hours (plus I am slightly under qualified for it) but hey, it's an interview so I thought I would.

Electrician has just finally been to fix the downstairs socket and didn't charge me so that's a tick off the meta list.

Am behind on everyone's posts and will try to catch up shortly!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 14/11/2023 19:31

Hi all- still here but also still away so nothing to report!

Hope DS is better @RunningKatie .

I have to hide my ironing and washing also when DM comes to stay @RunningKatie but that is mainly because she looks at the tags to see what size I am and then tuts. Grin Hmm

I am back home at the weekend. Looking forward to getting back to normal and i have mentally planned some garden projects- extending my fernery mainly. (Fernery is a very fancy name for my dark corner of the garden.)

❤to all!

(Edited twice because I can't seem to sort my emojis out!!)

SpiritOfEdna · 15/11/2023 15:49

hello, very quiet here although I've been doing some 'big' work presentations - it's very quiet now they have been done. An annual appraisal to get through - I haven't had one of them for all the years of contracting so am remembering one of the reasons I contracted 😄Just two (busy) days to get through and am then on holiday for a week.
Today

  • make bed and change duvet - done
  • online shop for some stuff to make mince pies and brownies for holidays
  • I am going to freeze in Cornwall next week if I don't sort out some warm clothes - I don't have one jumper (that's not covered in paint) in my closet. Just had a little detour to look for a nice jumper - I like Toast jumpers they are lovely, but my god, quite spendy.
  • walk spiritdoggo this afternoon - Storm Debi has died down and took some trees with her here.
That's all for now, SoE

I wrote a post and then lost it.

Hope DC is ok @RunningKatie , yellow doesn't sound too good!

@SpiritOfEdna appraisals can be quite nice if things are going well. You tell them all the great things you are doing then they tell you how awesome you are and give you a pay rise. At my last company we had to get '360' feedback from colleagues though which I used to hate doing, also company operated a bell curve which meant some people in the team had to be told they were under performing even if nobody was . Hope you have a good one!

Amazon does some good affordable jumpers, I like Amelie Boutik.

@SingleThreadJoiner that's a lot of leaflets! What's the Christmas tree scheme, is PTA trying to raise money?

@petalpower hope auntie liked the jigsaw!
You are so kind and thoughtful.

Aria999 · 15/11/2023 16:05

Today I am faffing and need to make a plan.

New cupboard nearly done. Electrician sourced by my lovely general contractor came and did the socket today and I saved $$ compared to what my regular electrician would have charged so that's a win.

Took DS7 beyblade to send it back to Amazon after it broke on the 5th use.

Other projects for today:
Clear post
Book DC dentist appointments
Do October finance review

Thunderinglightly · 15/11/2023 16:27

Hi all! I'm hope the poorly children are on the mend!
I have achieved some small but important bits and bobs, including booking appointments and restaurant tables.
I have made sure my mother's freezer is full.
I have finally changed our bed sheets. I usually do it weekly but it's gone 15 days. And I ran the hoover round and I cleaned the bath.
I know what is for dinner for the whole weekend and I have wrapped two birthday presents.
Have done a list about Christmas 💪

My thing that will stay done for a while is a shelf that has been decluttered and dusted.

Best wishes to all x

Aria999 · 15/11/2023 16:34

That sounds productive @Thunderinglightly !

Aah, Christmas presents 😫 need to get into that

I am adding 'dust the porch' to my list for today as doing the post is really making me sneeze 😳

petalpower · 15/11/2023 18:00

Auntie enjoyed the jigsaw thank you and although it was tricky to fit the pieces together she enjoyed the bright colours and it gave us something different to talk about as it was jungle animals. I’ve been to visit her again today and (this would be very outing) they had miniature donkeys visiting the care home! They went inside and visited residents in the main activity room or their own rooms if they weren’t up to come in with everyone else. (Before anyone worries they are very used to going into different settings and the handlers were superb about making sure welfare of the animals was front and centre.) Stayed for a falls assessment visit from an outside nurse - good timing as I like to be involved as much as possible. This afternoon I’ve frozen the butternut squash that were starting to go a bit squishy on the end and menu planned and added to the online supermarket shop for the next delivery. Tomorrow I have a day out at a big shopping centre with my friend and both our daughters which will be lovely.
@SpiritOfEdna I’ve had some lovely warm jumpers from Seasalt if that’s your kind of style?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/11/2023 18:12

Some impressive posts here! 👏
I haven't gotten to the rest of the painting yet, but Havoc kindly added bedroom wall for me by scratching it up with a phone charger. Yeah, I painted this wall/room in September. 🤦‍♀️

Thunderinglightly · 16/11/2023 08:31

Morning! @petalpower there is something similar round here for nursing homes. They have miniature ponies though. I read an article a little while back about one of them going up in the lift 💕 A friend of mine takes one of her dogs in. I think it's lovely! Does Auntie like colouring? It's something that some of my elderly clients with dementia used to love. The simple mandala designs seem to go down particularly well. I find them very calming myself when I'm feeling stressed. Have a lovely day with the girls! Ive booked mine to go for a festive cuppa at a garden centre next week.

Have you a spare mask @Aria999 ? I have to wear one when I do dusty jobs. It really does help! I've spotted quite a lot of cobwebs at home so that's a job for today. Recent cleaning has been mainly eye level and below 😳

Good old Havoc, @ @Mumtobabyhavoc! We've all been there 😂 Sounds like you're doing a grand job!

It's hosing it down here! Noticed at 8am how dark it seemed - almost like the week of the winter solstice. The clouds were just that heavy I suppose. Just in time for* *the school run - there's one very unhappy child I can hear outside who's obviously not impressed, and I can see my neighbours hurriedly bundling their children into the car.

Right, I'd best get on with those cobwebs. Happy Thursday everyone!

SpiritOfEdna · 16/11/2023 11:59

@petalpower Therapy donkeys! How amazing. Seasalt are right up my street and as I'll be in Cornwall next week it would be rude not to.

Another busy day with some random tasks

  • tried on every single dress I own and graded them into fits and not fits 😄We have a birthday meal out for the GreatNiece on Saturday and I need something suitably celebratory. I now need to put them back in the wardrobe. I probably have 5 options, but 2 leading contenders.
  • Make a shopping list of things to take away with us, we need new bouncy balls for SpiritDoggo or there will be one confused dog.
  • Look for nice places to eat where dogs are welcome - we'll probably have one family meal out as we are there for a GreatNephew's birthday
  • The sharp edges on the mural we painted in the spare bedroom look a bit ragged in places so have had the masking tape out to do some touch ups.
  • Walk SpiritDoggo x 2
That might be it for now, an afternoon of admin beckons and sorting handover notes,, have a good day all, SoE

We have therapy dogs at my work, they arw so lovely and calm. Ponies probably not allowed but they sound brilliant.
I've had a quick tidy around today, dc2 back in school after 2 days of quiet and rest. Yesterday I sorted the gas and elec contract, today it's car and home insurance. Makes an expensive time of year even more costly.
I started using up all my random lotions and potions earlier this year, yesterday saw the end of a tube of hand cream and a pot of body lotion. Hurrah!

Aria999 · 16/11/2023 14:10

FIL died this morning. DH and his brothers need to organize the funeral now so still not sure when he will be home. It is very very sad, FIL was a lovely man and a wonderful grandad. But the last few days he was unresponsive and with no real quality of life so it was better to be now than later in the circumstances.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2023 14:41

I am sorry to hear that @Aria999.

Aria999 · 16/11/2023 14:53

(Sorry to dump doom and gloom on the thread)

SpiritOfEdna · 16/11/2023 15:21

so sorry @Aria999 to hear that, absolutely no need to apologise.

RunningKatie · 16/11/2023 15:49

Oh @Aria999 I am so very sorry about your FIL. 💔

Aria999 · 16/11/2023 16:57

Thank you all xxx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/11/2023 17:23
