Did anyone watch BBC Newsnight last night? Apparently Victoria Derbyshire tore Jenrick apart.

I'll have a look later

Rishi Sunak's approval ratings drop to an all-time low, following his speech delaying climate change measures

I must say Sunak is a consumate politican.
During the summer he announced "Stop the Boats". Hardening those who oppose such pointless cruelty and highlighting to those whose votes he thinks he is winning that the government has failed to do anything constructive on migration for years.
Now we have Stop Net Zero, again hardening those opposed to destroying the planet and pointing out to those whose votes he thinks he is winning that the government has quietly introduced a range of policies they don't like.

The latest great trick appears to be to point out that they made a dogs dinner of A-level reform in England and so the government are going to do it again, and call it a British Bac for England.

Is he paying Coco the Clown to be his political adviser?

It's a delight.

Coco and Rish have come up with another new plan

Rishi Sunak considering introducing some of world’s toughest anti-smoking measures to effectively ban next generation from ever buying cigarettes

So they’re basically focussing on just ignoring the raging problems we already have and looking for new things to chuck on the bonfire?

Do they think they’ve finished what they’ve already started?

LlynTegid · 22/09/2023 18:55

Please do not refer to anyone in the UK government in comparison to clowns. More respect is due to clowns.

Am I right in thinking that the chap being interviewed would like us to believe that he just fell from a cloud and so can't possibly have any responsibility for anything that happened before today?

Coco found a real live one with this one.

"Am I right in thinking that the chap being interviewed would like us to believe that he just fell from a cloud and so can't possibly have any responsibility for anything that happened before today?"

In fairness he's only been an MP since 2014. A PPS since 2015 and a minister since 2018. He's barely had anything to do with the government at all really.

Does he have a memory problem, which is why he didn't know he had been responsible for all those years?

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2023 19:09

Depends whether selective memory counts as a memory problem. It's obviously not a problem for him.

They just accepted a large donation from the Vape industry

I am in favour of phasing out smoking but this is very low on my list of priorities

Our council just sent out the form to check that your household's electoral register is up to date

I had mine a month or so ago. Not that it matters because we're all forrin, but at least ducks are being lined up. We do however need a real push for people to get the dreaded ID, because the number of people disenfranchised in this year's local elections was alarming and it will be worse in a GE.

I get that yearly! Had it a few months ago.

Sadly I don't think it's a sign.

itsgettingweird · 22/09/2023 19:20

Derbyshire was brilliant then.

"You think or you have evidence?"

I can't help but roll by eyes into my head when ever we hear "I think what you're saying" alongside "that's labours view" when he knows damn well that's not what she's saying.

Love the fact that she stood up to it and said "you know I'm not" and read the statement out again.

Will watch it all later as she was brilliant and he was clearly uncomfortable.

itsgettingweird · 23/09/2023 09:29

Piggy you'll probably be interested in this like me but all of us will be interested.

It appears people are finally waking up to the underfunding of education and the costs to all pupils. Thread about inclusion currently running and how the education system is just a mess.

Someone even linked to that EHCP cuts article someone here listed a few weeks back.

🤞 this a cheat sign of the ride turning towards people seeing what's going on behind the "stop the boats" and "we are on the side of British people" headlines.

Education and health NEED to be everyone's priority. Slowing climate change policies and stopping the boats will not improve them.

BIossomtoes · 23/09/2023 10:00

Derbyshire was brilliant. Someone suggested on the platform formerly known as Twitter that she should present Question Time - what a wonderful idea.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 23/09/2023 10:00

Oops. When you accidentally roll back on climate policy a few days before the old policy is used as your defence in the ECHR. Don't you just hate it when that happens.

I'd like to be shocked at that.

But .......

BIossomtoes · 23/09/2023 15:42

Nothing shocks me any more. Andrew Mitchell was on Any Questions last night. He reckons the UK is so far ahead of the rest of the world on climate policy that we should take our foot off the gas for a bit until everyone else catches up. 🙄

Notonthestairs · 23/09/2023 16:02

I thought being ahead was the point as it attracted inward investment in green technologies.

But now they say it's better to attract investors at the same time as other EU countries because... well for mysterious reasons...

Is that investment from foriegners? I thought the whole point of Brexit was taking back control, so we probably don't want that sort of money, which is why this policy is designed to discourage it.

BIossomtoes · 23/09/2023 16:09

You’re right. We don’t need filthy foreign money. Unless it’s invested in uninhabited luxury flats, of course
