Fucks sakes, the sheer incompetence and lack of accountability.

www.opendemocracy.net/en/home-office-afghan-resettlement-scheme-hotels-meals-food-withdrawn/

That's not incompetence, that's willful cruelty. They're evil.

Notonthestairs · 21/09/2023 23:00

Yes you are probably right it is cruelty rather than incompetence. I just didn't want to believe that anyone would deliberately leave them without cooking/food storage options in the middle of nowhere. It's such a basic expectation of humanity.

verdantverdure · 22/09/2023 05:29

I just can't get over Rishi Sunak wanting credit for saving us from >checks notes< Rishi Sunak.

Is he genuinely expecting a pat on the back for not imposing "compulsory car sharing" on us?

countrygirl99 · 22/09/2023 05:55

I just checked our my MPs Facebook page. He's put on a "hasn't Rishi made a wonderful decision" post and every reponse is negative😊

Edited

I have written to my Mp the dishonorable member for Moscow and Riyadh asking why the Prime Minister has u turned on stop the boats in favour of mass migration and climate change.

countrygirl99 · 22/09/2023 07:36

@jgw1 nice one😆

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2023 08:15

I see Sunak now wants to move away from A levels towards a baccalaurate.
I dont think that would be the worse thing in the world.

But where is he going to find the teachers? How well have they introduced T levels?

Why would anyone trust them to implement these kind of changes to education given the massive balls ups they've made in education (as well as large scale projects) recently?

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/09/2023 08:35

The only way you can do that is by reducing content at a level. Has he asked the universities if they are ok with that?

pointythings · 22/09/2023 09:33

I'm on the fence about this idea on A levels. English universities have always happily accepted students from countries where young people don't limit themselves to 3 or 4 subjects - I did 8 in the Netherlands. It doesn't necessarily mean lesser quality. My A level equivalents in French and German went into vastly more depth than their UK counterparts. It's possible to do more subjects well.

But I don't trust this government to do it right, because it will take substantial investment in state education and they aren't into that.

Cornettoninja · 22/09/2023 09:45

And this is the crux of it isn’t it? Rishi and co could come out with the most wonderful ideas in the world solving global warming and poverty - I still wouldn’t trust them to implement it without fucking it up/me over.

leave a couple of essay’s in No 10 when you leave and let a proper grown up review it and implement it.

Cornettoninja · 22/09/2023 09:49

Meanwhile there’s still no comment on resolving the doctors strikes and waiting lists. It’s much easier to solve problems that you can create and solve in the same brainstorming session I suppose.

Disclaimer - it’s very personal for me. I’ve all but been given a chronic neurological diagnosis but can’t have a formal one until I’ve sat in front of the right doctor. No formal diagnosis means no treatment/support. Until January.

But yes, it’s great that things that were never going to happen definitely won’t now.

Fuck you Rishi.

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2023 12:15

Sorry to read that Cornetto. The frustration at time being wasted must be immense. And no doubt replicated up and down the country.

Cornettoninja · 22/09/2023 14:56

@Notonthestairs thanks - I shouldn’t use this thread for personal rants but it was cathartic Grin I think I must have triggered some sort of universal connection to someone because my appointment has been moved to next week (it was actually my amazing GP hounding the hospital and fighting my corner. Love her)

I also really liked Shelagh Fogerty’s first topic today - the tories are giving us home truths, what home truths have you for for them?

You don't have to go as far as Holland : Scotland does it too.

But we simply do not have the teachers.
And there is no appetite in teaching for change or new initiatives.

Historically A levels are seen as gold standard and coveted by overseas wealthy parents, who send their offspring to British boarding schools.

pointythings · 22/09/2023 15:46

@Piggywaspushed from where I live, Holland is nearer than Scotland Grin but I fully agree that we really don't want major systems change. Not until our school buildings are safe and fit for purpose, we have enough teachers and schools and staff are properly funded.

Sorry to hear you've got neuro issues. But I'm pleased your rant called the appointment gods to bring it forward Grin

And personally I think we are all good enough "friends" now to have personal rants. You were all fab to me last year when my mum died and I had some moments Flowers

mibbelucieachwell · 22/09/2023 16:04

 @Cornettoninja Flowers

IClaudine · 22/09/2023 17:13

Yes, agree we can have some personal rants! Glad your appointment was brought forward, Cornetto.

Cornettoninja · 22/09/2023 17:49

Aw, thanks guys CakeSmile

BIossomtoes · 22/09/2023 18:09

So pleased you’re not having to wait until next year @Cornettoninja. Maybe we should all have a bit of a rant and see if it results in change for the better!

DuncinToffee · 22/09/2023 18:16

I'll join in with the Friday Cake,

glad you got your appointment ninja

"think I must have triggered some sort of universal connection to someone because my appointment has been moved to next week "

Excellent update. Well done that GP. Flowers

Ideally though you shouldn't have had this worry in the first place first place and no I bloody well don't think that is asking too much. And that's down to NHS workforce planning and investment. We need a workforce fit to work therefore health needs to be top of the government agenda.

I'm at the stage where I think the current government is just getting in the damn way. Another 12 months of juvenile campaigning (meat tax, 7 bins, forced carpooling) rather than actual governance and God knows where we will be.
