We have three bins. I'd like more, please.

Who do you want to put in them?

Piggywaspushed · 21/09/2023 13:51

Glass would be good, also food waste/compost. We don't get those and thy do in the next door authority.

Fladdermus · 21/09/2023 14:01

7 bins? You're lightweights. Here in Sweden we have to have 14 bins in our basement.

general bin
food waste
'pant' (cans and bottles with a deposit)
hard plastic
soft plastic
clear glass
coloured glass
metal
cardboard
paper
batteries
electronics
textiles
garden waste

They don't even get collected by the council, we have to take them to the sorting place ourselves.

Piggywaspushed · 21/09/2023 15:13

Trying to imagine the good people of, say, Uxbridge , doing this!

Although it's not very eco friendly to drive to a waste disposal place??

Notonthestairs · 21/09/2023 15:29

@Fladdermus what happens if you don't have transport or are disabled?
Are there long queues?

My local recycling centre is always busy and very awkward to access. They are open 4 days a week. The containers seem to need changing often as they are so busy - so even if you can get in you can't necessarily use the containers you need as they are full.

verdantverdure · 21/09/2023 15:29

Did Sunak literally invent nonsense so he could say he'd stopped it?

WHO was going to impose a meat tax on us?

And compulsory car sharing?

jgw1 · 21/09/2023 15:45

I take it that the Tories with their new brighter future slogan are accepting that the leveling up joke is in the past?

itsgettingweird · 21/09/2023 15:47

Cheguevarahamster · 21/09/2023 08:32

Did anyone listen to Sunak's interview on Today? Nick Robinson had a field day with the Seven bins, meat tax nonsense.

Maybe the mumsnet coup collective could go down go Downing Street with bins aloft!

Yea I loved Nick this morning.

Went into to work with a snails on my face after listening him saying you changed pledges that you hadn't even made.

And you said you weren't making this political!

itsgettingweird · 21/09/2023 15:48

IClaudine · 21/09/2023 08:51

I wondered about the meat tax thing, too. So it was never even a policy?

No. And the policy they tried to say it was hadn't even been written by the person they said had written it. They had them in before Sunak.

Same with the bins thing!

I have 2!!!

Don't need a gardening bin as gardener takes the rubbish!!!

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/09/2023 15:57

I have 5 bins. 6 if you count the indoor food waste caddy.

Compulsory car sharing seems like the sort of policy that would involve a lot of AIBU threads with people complaining about their lift share.

I presume Sunak is against it as he doesn't want to share with any of the morons in his cabinet.

I live in the arse end of nowhere. The main tip is just outside of town (I say town, by british standards it's a village with aspirations) and I've never seen two vehicles there at the same time. Within town there are muliple smaller places, like you get in supermarket carparks in the UK, where you can leave stuff. Everyone has one within walking distance.

Not sure what happens with people who are disabled. There's probably some council scheme. Like I know if you're disabled you can pay £10 a month and the council cut your grass and hedges and take away all the waste. So I assume there's something similar for other waste.

Fladdermus · 21/09/2023 16:02

Name change fail!!!

Tbf, I don’t think helicopter sharing is a thing.

DuncinToffee · 21/09/2023 17:09

Will it be 'inadvertently' once again?

Rishi Sunak has been accused of a 'very clear breach' of the ministerial code over his speech last night
Understand @UnlockDemocracy chief Tom Brake is writing to Sir Laurie Magnus, the PM's ethics advisor, over Mr Sunak's use of the Tories' Conference Slogan at a briefing held at No9 Downing Street, an official, publicly owned building.

The slogan also appears on the front of the Tory Conference Agenda.

Ministers are banned from using official resources to "disseminate party political material". Mr Brake says the use of the slogan "appears to be a very clear breach."

You know how the deadline for buying infernal combustion engines in cars and vans has been pushed back to 2035, except that from 2030 80% of the vehicles manufacturers sell in the UK will have to be zero admissions. (Its 22% from January 2024).

mibbelucieachwell · 21/09/2023 18:07

They can't accuse of KS of changing his mind anymore.

Oh they can. Hypocrisy is their middle name.

I was just reading about that jgw1

Here is the BBC article
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66875554

You can buy any car you like, but manufacturers can only sell you zero emmissions ones.
Makes sense really.

mibbelucieachwell · 21/09/2023 19:08

1985 meets 2035 😆

mibbelucieachwell · 21/09/2023 19:09

Hmmm. Was that inadvertently cryptic?

I mean the double speak of being free to do something that isn't possible..... I'll get my coat.

itsgettingweird · 21/09/2023 19:43

It just all basically boils down to

We crashed the economy. We've made people poorer. So now we'll pretend we care about you by not having to buy things we've made unaffordable because you'd like a roof over your head and food in your fridge.

Notonthestairs · 21/09/2023 20:19

Fucks sakes, the sheer incompetence and lack of accountability.
