Ah the "changed my phone and lost my WhatsApps" excuse.
A tale as old as time.
Or as long as politicians can get away with failing to safely store government communications.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/10/2023 20:47

I managed to change my phone and not lose all my WhatsApps. What are they all doing?

If it’s that easy to lose them, then the obvious solution is to not use WhatsApp for government business.

They are all a bunch of fucking liars.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2023 20:48

Yep. Changed my phone last week. Still have all my WAs.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/10/2023 20:59

The only way this is plausible is if they are all changing phone and SIM card and phone number regularly.

What’s app messages are normally stored on the SIM card not the phone itself. Even if you switch provider and keep your number it’s transferred onto the new SIM card and appears when you put it into the phone. You would have to actively try and lose the conversations to get rid of them.

plus I find it implausible that if they are conducting government business using WhatsApp they didn’t make sure they could still access those conversations when they switched phones.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/10/2023 21:09

Professionalism, integrity, accountability…

MrTiddlesTheCat · 02/10/2023 21:26

What's the penalty for failing to comply with a court order?

newnamethanks · 02/10/2023 21:49

Tsk Mr Sunak. You should give Becky Vardy a call, she may have advice for you. Do you like boats? Not small ones, obviously.

jgw1 · 02/10/2023 21:50

Honesty and integrity.

I think if they do govt business on WhatsApp they are meant to keep the messages as matter of public record

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/10/2023 22:14

I’m still convinced this isn’t about the covid inquiry. It’s about whatever else is in those WhatsApps that the inquiry may find out about if they have access to all of them. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Rishi is up to his neck in it.

I may have some issues with the proposed minimum wage increase.

Apart from the fact that the Tories have just spent a year telling me that increasing my NHS wages would cause inflation and a minimum wage increase seems not to…

When I started working for the NHS I was earning about £1ph over minimum wage. Having reached the top of that band, had a promotion and now being at the top of the band above I am going to be £1.45ph above minimum wage. Compared to the £3+ph above anyone in my current position would have been when I started.
Anyone starting now will be barely earning above minimum wage. I’d like my pay restored please. No wonder it’s not as easy to find good staff any more.

Zonder · 02/10/2023 23:25

jgw1 · 02/10/2023 20:02

I think we already know the answer to that.

You're right. What was I thinking? I really must stop expecting such a high bar.

I'm in the same position in education.

It's one of the reasons they are struggling to get people to apply for higher support roles (or even recruit)

I went up before the increase of wage to increase of accountability dropped.

They can't recruit when you can work in supermarket for same as basic wage and the prospects to increase your wage are much better.

Last increase we had was static £1925 per year. Not knocking it. But when your on £19k that's far more than when your own £29k. For a start one was inflation equivalent (there about) and one wasn't!

I am sure the Chancellor was on the radio yesterday morning saying it was important that work paid and that he wanted people to move off benefits into work.

Perhaps the Chancellor isn't responsibile for paying people in the public sector?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2023 06:46

I think he should be congratulated on having made the recruitment process more efficient by removing the need to spend time shortlisting applicants.

Because the NHS is inefficient it hasn’t realised that more time could be saved by not bothering to interview the 1 applicant and just offering them the job.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2023 08:43

Rishi’s absolutely nailing the media round this morning. Only kidding.

Notonthestairs · 03/10/2023 08:49

twitter shows a video of Patel dancing with Farage to Cant Take My Eyes Off You, at a conference in a disused railway terminus where the most pressing question is whether we can build a high speed rail line to that city and the Government can't or won't answer the question whilst telling us that they are making long term decisions for a brighter future & whilst the previous disgraced PM instructs us to release the gas from beneath us.

You can't write this stuff.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2023 08:54

So far today I’ve seen Rishi say he’s taking the time to look at it properly and not making a premature decision and sources saying the announcement will be in his speech tomorrow. Presumably the extra 24 hrs is critical.

I assume he’ll make the announcement and then hot foot it onto a helicopter and get out of Manchester ASAP.

AdamRyan · 03/10/2023 08:58

Just reading the bbc live feed about Sunak and I'm Shock at this:

PM insists he is committed to the North of EnglandSunak is asked now how he is going to get people in the North to trust him again.
Sunak says he's a northern MP and says as chancellor he created free ports across the North, and that he put the Treasury in Darlington.
"That's my commitment to the North," he says.

Wow. Freeports in Liverpool, Teeside and Hull, (with a big question around pollution in Teeside and dead sea life on the beach) and the treasury in Darlington. Well done Rishi. Those Northerners will be falling over themselves to vote Conservative.

AdamRyan · 03/10/2023 08:59

He couldn't be much more contemptuous if he tried.

I'm cringing so much at Patel and Farage I've think I've given myself a hernia.

What's Farage even doing there? Is anyone allowed to attend?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2023 09:11

I assume he’s allowed to buy a ticket as a member of a registered international political party. It might be stretching the ‘centre-right’ definition under that group though.

Do we know why he is too scared to announce it in parliament?
