Because announcing policies in parliament is passé?

Day 1 of module 2of the covid inquiry today. Module 2 is decision making and governance. Nothing that could embarrass the government there surely?

Is governance the governments responsibility, I thought that was pot plants?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2023 09:59

Certainly the economy would be in a better position if we’d had the lettuce as PM and Truss just dealt with the pot plants.

Interesting. The guardian, the mirror and the star all appear to have deleted their stories about Wootton now being investigated by the Met for the catfishing thing. BBC obviously didn’t mention it at all yesterday.

Rishi’s absolutely nailing the media round this morning. Only kidding.

He sounded very irritable, annoyed and like he really really did not want to be there.
Come next May or whenever, he will just fuck off somewhere. No way will he carry on.

I sometimes think this conference is simply designed to drive the last moderate Tories out. The Conservative Party was the traditional defender of small family farms and rural traditions. How is this globalised hormone-pumped rhetoric conservative?

x.com/rorystewartuk/status/1709157551894413777?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Stewart responding to Rees Mogg's comments yesterday but which reveals a lot about the party overall.

I don't suppose there is the money to set up a centre right party - but heavens knows it is needed.

It might explain why the Tories have been so tardy in sorting out a replacement for the Common Agricultural Policy.

Missed this yesterday. I’d almost feel sorry for her but it’s Leadsome.

I don’t know who that guy in the blue shirt is but he looks like he’s really enjoying that interview Grin

newnamethanks · 03/10/2023 13:10

Oh it's unbearable. I want to watch 'Partygate' on C4 this evening but I'm not sure I can get through it without requiring medical intervention.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/10/2023 13:23

I've been in a foul mood this week and I'm sure a very good part of that is hearing the contradictory, conspiracy led crap coming out of the conference from all manner of people. We are being led by lunatics.

It seems like the lunatic alt right is the only demographic left for Tories to try to bottom feed votes from.

Zonder · 03/10/2023 14:40

I still can't understand why anyone is giving air space to Truss and Farage. Are there actual real people who think they're a good bet and a fine advert for the Tory party?

DuncinToffee · 03/10/2023 14:48

A summary thread

I’ve never seen a Conference like this before. It’s as if they are competing to say the silliest thing

'I ALWAYS think a dictator is a good idea, if they're a good dictator'

Lee Anderson CPC23

I might need to get a refund on all that tinfoil I bought.

Cornettoninja · 03/10/2023 15:35

Good lord. I mean they can hear themselves can’t they?? This stuff is even written down in front of them.

I suppose once they bought into ‘vote leave’ reality departed 🤷‍♀️

DuncinToffee · 03/10/2023 16:00

Vile woman

Braverman says that the Human Rights Act should be called the "Criminal Rights Act" and that being smeared as a racist didn't work against Churchill and it won't work against her. To raptuous applause.

A bit more here, it is truly horrific

Long rift from Suella Braverman about the “luxury beliefs” of Labour voters…

OP posts:
MrTiddlesTheCat · 03/10/2023 16:08

Do only criminals have human rights then? What law protects my human rights if it's not the human rights act?

Notonthestairs · 03/10/2023 16:10

Another leadership pitch. Certainly reveals what the party would look like under Braverman.

This Conference is particularly bonkers because they don't have a positive narrative to tell the country. Very few policy initiatives and the ones they have my parish council would label under AOB.

The successes simply aren't there.

So all they have left is to threaten people and pretend they haven't been in charge for over a decade

IClaudine · 03/10/2023 16:21

"The luxury beliefs brigade sit in their ivory towers telling ordinary people that they are morally deficient because they dare to get upset about the impact of illegal migration, net zero, or habitual criminals.

And you can be sure of one thing.

People with luxury beliefs will flock to Labour at the next election because that’s the way to get the kind of society they want.

They like open borders. The migrants coming in won’t be taking their jobs. In fact, they are more likely to have them mowing their lawns or cleaning their homes.

They love soft sentences. The criminals who benefit from such ostentatious compassion won’t be terrorising their streets or grooming their children.

They are desperate to reverse Brexit. They think patriotism is embarrassing and have no use for a British passport if it doesn’t entitle them to live in their second homes in Tuscany, Dordogne or Barcelona.

For these people, I have a simple message … You are entitled to your luxury beliefs, but the British people will no longer pay for them"

She is disgusting.

The bots have been quite quiet today. Probably having their scripts tweaked to reflect the tsunami of shite that has been spewing from conference.

Notonthestairs · 03/10/2023 16:25

Functioning public services is a luxury is it?

Oh wow. That's exactly the kind of crap some posters on here come out with.
This social division is terrifying. Surely it doesn't actually appeal to anyone in real life?

Cornettoninja · 03/10/2023 16:40

Eh? ‘Luxury’, in the context they’re using it - pretty standard basics to everyone else, is an insult? So will they be giving out sack cloths and ashes at the polling booths? What’s the point in hand wringing over the economy if we should be spitting at the sight of anything ‘Luxurious’.

They really have a fetish for WWII don’t they? I’m undecided which side they’re trying to model themselves on.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 03/10/2023 16:52

So kindness and compassion are a luxury?
