I have had a little go, but I have been spending too much time on MN lately and am trying to cut down. It is all the same old rubbish being trotted out there.

That's why I'm glad ds trains before and after work because I get to stick here weekdays as only have a quick checking in time! I think I'd go mad otherwise (like weekends when I spend faaaarrrrr to much time getting involved in spats on here 🫣🤣)

mibbelucieachwell · 26/09/2023 14:03

Geee. I've just heard more detail of SB's speech. Fear of violence on account of being gay shouldn't confer asylum rights!

Is the act still fit for modern times? Eh, is SB fit for modern times?

SB isn't fit to be anywhere other humans are

DuncinToffee · 26/09/2023 16:13

Can the US keep her?

At least they know what a woman is.

Yes, someone who should not be able to claim refugee status on account of her fear of male violence. I guess a woman has to actually be maimed, raped, tortured before she counts.

Can the US keep her?

Yes please. Someone take her passport away.

A dangerous fool who is already doing enormous harm at huge cost.

Alok Sharma is standing down at the next election.

Amazed it took him this long to be honest.

DuncinToffee · 26/09/2023 20:08

Yes no surprise there, maybe Sunak ditching net zero policies was the last straw for him

No10 DID sign off on Suella Braverman’s speech, Rishi Sunak’s spokesman says.

So it's government policy then, wow

Well, well, well.
Best they stop fannying around in the US and start putting policy & legislation before Parliament.
They have a majority. What are they waiting for?

Time to get off the pot Sunak.

Unless it's all meaningless flannel and just campaigning.

This tweet cheered me up a bit

Full house at Suella Braverman's hate speech.

There is what 25-30 people there including journalists and staff?

AdamRyan · 26/09/2023 23:16

Interesting
https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/conservatives/2023/09/suella-braverman-is-daring-rishi-sunak-to-sack-her

I'd love to know if anyone outside the UK pays any attention to what she says

And also - existential crisis? The existential crisis is too many humans using all the resources and polluting everything. And the West has far more of an impact on the world than the other countries.

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2023 07:42

Rosebank oil field have the go ahead.

Explains Sharma's move yesterday I think.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/09/2023 10:28

Interesting on Newsnight last night. Tory insisting Braverman is right that being gay should not automatically lead to asylum and we have to crack down on it. Absolutely no answer when it was pointed out that according to government's own figures all refugees granted asylum on the basis of being gay come from countries with a death sentence or life imprisonment.

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2023 10:50

Lucy Frazer was struggling to defend the indefensible this morning, she decided just to answer a different question than the one asked.

There is a rather desperate thread on Starmer in aibu, knowing what a woman is and Wales Wink

OP posts:
pointythings · 27/09/2023 11:21

I have stopped taking those threads in good faith. They always drop immediately after a Tory cockup, so I am operating on the assumption that the Tories have a Mumsnet adviser in post.

newnamethanks · 27/09/2023 11:43

I agree, pointythings, how could it not be so? They're quite effective derailers although they have to be as logical defence is thin on the ground. I see "Partygate" is being televised on Monday next, dramatised version of No 10 during Covid. Expect a lot of 'but Jeremy Corbyn' s and Keir's beer to sprout up thereafter.

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2023 11:52

I happened to catch a bit of the celibrity SAS show on C4 (was on after gbbo) and matt hancock was getting quite a bollocking over his ''I didn't know the guidelines' defence of his covid breach.

The Covid Inquiry resumes today.

I agree Pointy, especially when the OP only has a few posts to their name.

Also agree pointy and Dunc, posters with little history and names you never recognise, up they pop to parrot whatever the current govt line is….Conversely threads and posters critical of the government are nearly always from familiar names that have been here years.

I can't think why we don't therefore have a series of posts telling us all the wonderful things the Tories have done in government for the past 13 years.
