Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

His rebrand has worked.

Everyone's saying it's because he's "anti-establishment", not because he's a creep

Clymene · 16/09/2023 16:43

I believe the women in the article, yes @topnoddy

I also believe that there is no way this would have been published if they hadn't been able to corroborate the women's stories.

He's a rapist

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 16/09/2023 16:43

I've just read the Times article. If these allegations are true, it just goes to show how men in positions of power continue to abuse that power. Anyone in a position of power has a duty of care to ensure those around them are properly looked after and well treated.

As a society we put famous people on pedestals and it's so wrong.

Creative34 · 16/09/2023 16:43

Clymene · 16/09/2023 16:33

Perhaps you should read the article @Creative34

And just fyi women who engage in consensual sex with a man don't then deserve to be raped and sexually assaulted by him.

Rape apologist.

Sorry where is the proof of rape?

you seem to have condemned him pretty quickly. Let’s hope people reserve judgement on you for any misdemeanours you make.

and FYI, I did read the article; I quoted from the article originally.

If YOU read it correctly, you will see it says:
All said they felt ready to speak ONLY after being approached by reporters. Several said they felt compelled to do so given Brand’s newfound prominence as an online wellness influencer, with millions of followers on YouTube and other sites.”

Again if there was any credibility in this it would have been:

  1. reported to the police
  2. Reported at a time before his ‘newfound prominence’

They’re clearly selling a story / trying to bring him down because someone doesn’t like what he’s spurting out on his YouTube channel

YapYap2023 · 16/09/2023 16:44

He's been accused of rape before hasn't he? I'm really not seeing the story of the century here.

A very big proportion of celebrities are like it.

The bigger scandal for me is those that know what goes on but keep stum.

topnoddy · 16/09/2023 16:44

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 16:39

No one has said that to be fair. If there is evidence of rape, Brand should be jailed.

I only read one suggestion of rape - unless I misread it didn't explicitly state rape, only that afterwards she went to the police and it obviously didn't go anywhere. However we know how tough it is to get a rape conviction.

Either way it reads as vile behaviour; over to Brand to defend himself I guess.

Will he get a trial by jury first or just sent straight to jail ?

He's not a nice bloke but everyone on here has found him guilty of what ever these allegations are from 4 people that has taken Channel 4 years to drag up , not in a Ru Paul way though

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:41

@RamsesTheChub
I was replying to a comment that's now been deleted.

I know, but that post never said they deserved to be raped.

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:45

@RamsesTheChub
I don't think I mentioned rape?

Do you have any idea how many women never report rape to the police? And that’s without even going up against a celebrity and his lawyers 🥺

Loulou599 · 16/09/2023 16:46

These allegations are probably true and they are awful.

However RB sobered up and changed his life around. He put an end to his addictions, he now runs a fairly harmless YouTube channel and seems to be content doing that and living with his family.

Does that mean his crimes should be forgiven? No. Should they be forgotten? Possibly.

I'm another one who is suspicious of the reason why so much effort was poured into researching this man over any of the other men of that generation who probably did all that and worse. Why him?

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:47

@RamsesTheChub And of course, I wouldn't convict someone, in my head, before they were found guilty.
If these allegations are true, then the law will decide not us lot.

Yeah, I agree.

Shitty, vile news but hardly groundbreaking.

Locutus2000 · 16/09/2023 16:47

Archived (free) version of Times article.

Archive.ph running a bit slow today.

Clymene · 16/09/2023 16:47

I've been raped. Twice. I didn't report either rape to the police but that doesn't mean they didn't happen.

Does anyone honestly believe a woman who accuses a famous man of rape when she's been in a consensual relationship with him would get justice?

I don't know what the rape conviction rate is in the US but it's shit here.

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 16:47

Of course it should be through the courts, yes. Look, I'm not convinced at all, the Times article offers no proof - even the text message so-called apologising didn't mention rape at all and the victim's reply didn't sound how I might imagine a rape victim to react (though I've not been there, so really cannot pretend to understand).

I would remind you though that it is incredibly difficult to prove a rape case, we're astonishingly bad at it. So just because it doesn't go to court does not mean it didn't happen.

Haffiana · 16/09/2023 16:47

Have the "This is all a stitch up and an attack 'cos Russell Brand Knows the Truth and was Exposing It" conspiracy fuckwits shut the fuck up yet?

Are any of them going to repent for their idiotic, brainless, indiscriminate utter absence of actual thinking? For following a Guru who they knew was a fucking creep, but lapping up the feeling of being one of the Special Ones who can - oh the irony - 'question' the Establishment?

Do come and double down a bit more before you name change, eh?

JenniferBooth · 16/09/2023 16:48

So did these things allegedly happen while he was working at Channel 4 And are now about to be exposed by .................Channel 4

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 16/09/2023 16:48

@Creative34 - reporting sexual assault is difficult. Often there is no physical evidence, it's circumstantial. The process on top of the trauma means many, many cases of sexual assault and rape go unreported.

This exposé is the tip of the iceberg. This behaviour is more widespread than we might like to believe.

MoiraRosesBaybay · 16/09/2023 16:48

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:33

Ah, yeah, of course. When girls throw themselves at you they're ripe for abuse and deserve it.
What a crock of shit.

I believe it was the Beatles who said much later that they had underage girls throwing themselves at them all day long, but because they were decent blokes they didn’t do anything with them.

TW: Child abuse and rape

This is why it's such a big deal.

Wonder how much they got paid ?

The whole thing is sleazy , both Brand and the scandal mongering reporters . Am I to believe that after all these people were interviewed over X years Brand knew nowt about it all going on ?

Creative34 · 16/09/2023 16:33

16 is legal for consent

I was actually talking about the pp who said sex with child groupies was normal in her day, although it's true that I didn't like your comment either.

I've just read the article and there is some really vile stuff in there.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/09/2023 16:49

I've just read the times article. I feel like I'm so jaded by male predatory behaviour. It didn't even shock or surprise me. I'm 50. I've met so many men who want or assume sexual interest at work, in hospital as a teenage patient, in bars - it's almost like fending off men is part of womanhood.
I can think of several sexual encounters that now I know weren't consensual - I gave in and had sex because it was easier or safer. And I know I'm not alone. Ive been assaulted.
He's yet another on the long list. At the criminal end.

Lifeomars · 16/09/2023 16:50

What I was hoping for was an expose on Charlotte Owen, the 29 year old who did a bit of maternity cover at some Tory office in London and was rewarded with a Peerage. There is no information about her anywhere though there are lots of rumours online and apparently there is a super-injunction in place to prevent any speculation about what she has done to deserve this honour. I'd also like to see a documentary about Michelle Mone and the fast lane PPE contracts and while we are at it, how about tracking down Dido Harding and asking her how on earth she messed up Test and Trace to the tune of £37 billion. Not that I don't want to see Russell Brand held to account for any wrong-doing but all this speculation and rumour is rather unedifying
