Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

Ah, it must have been a 4pm release time. Well, there we are then.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/09/2023 16:05

I've been lurking from the US. I have to admit I don't recognize a lot of the names, let alone figuring who the initials are!

I've checked the US gossip sites and a big fat 'bupkis' there.

I do know who RB, DW and couple of others on the 'list' are and IMHO if this story is about them and sexual escapades I don't get why it would rate a whole 90 minutes, even if there are allegations of underage or coerced victims. Hell, I think Epstein only got an hour on various US network news shows (Dateline, 20/20 etc).

But if there is an allegation of the bribes taken by authorities, or of an official police coverup or intentional 'mis-handling', that would rate 90 minutes.

EDIT: Ah, I see it's dropped..just Brand then? I still don't get how a 'used to be' media figure rates a 90 minute program investigating his past (potentially abhorrent) behaviour. I hate to sound 'tin foil hatty', but does he have some kind of information that could be damaging to someone and they want to discredit him. Or is it just a rather slow news day. Because I'd say compared to Epstein and Savile, an allegation by 5 victims appears to be somewhat small beans.

Not that I'm discounting the pain and fear suffered by his victims, not at all. It should definitely be publicly known.

It’s up, anyone got a share token?

I was hoping for an exposé on Disney since they've been covering for well known New Zealand born director/actor with a strikingly similar MO to Brand.

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 16:06

Well what a shitfest. I guess it'll be interesting to see the evidence and, if true, I hope he's sent down for a long time.

Figgygal · 16/09/2023 16:08

If they have evidence of criminal wrongdoing then why not take it to the police?
So now looks like another unsavoury salacious trial by media and social media.
Yuck I'm out

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 16/09/2023 16:08
  1. he’s hardly an A lister
  2. he has no amazing career to finish at this point
  3. as a result of this, his show tonight is actually sold out, so they’ve done him a favour
  4. 90mins on Russel Brand? Really?
  5. I will always believe a woman who says they have been sexually assaulted or raped but the road of travel is to the police station not to Chanel 4. This is very wrong and is trial by media.

genuine question, but is it possible they have already been to police, who investigated, and it was decided there wasnt enough evidence to prosecute, so they have taken this route instead?

Even if you're not a times subscriber, you can watch the trailer video for Dispatches on the article

Finlesswonder · 16/09/2023 16:02

Head of C4 news just tweeted:
"BREAKING: Russell Brand - In Plain Sight #C4dispatches will air at 2100 on Channel 4. We will hear testimony from 5 women who make allegations including rape, sexual assault and controlling and emotionally abusive behaviour - which he denies. Collab with @thetimes - watch at 9pm"

Hardly the biggest news of our times. Glad I found out now and didn't bother wasting my time on dispatches later.

Funny that this is coming out now and Russell Brand has become a truthist. Suspicious, whatever you believe/think of what he goes on about.

Doyoumind · 16/09/2023 16:13

Well the PR guys have done a good job generating interest in a story that it turns out will be of no surprise and of little interest to anyone. And whilst I do care about and feel for any alleged victims, this investigation will have very little impact on anyone other than those affected and the already has-been RB himself.

thatsnotmywean · 16/09/2023 15:57

The OP should change the thread title, cause what's a bigger news story this year than the Coronation?

Fucking Russell Brand? Yeah right.

The King must be fuming, who wants to be upstaged by Brand???

My dh just said apparently it's someone else.

Finlesswonder · 16/09/2023 16:17

Yeah I think they massively misjudged this. I also think that celebrities who rape, control and abuse women are probably so commonplace that I'm more interested in why they have chosen to investigate RB specifically.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/09/2023 16:17

I'm so not interested in a story about Brand.

How do you know the women didn’t go to the police? Or The Times? You do realise the police and Crown Prosecution usually do fuck all about rape and sexual assault?!

RegimentalSturgeon · 16/09/2023 16:17

Not worth missing the rugby for.

thatsnotmywean · 16/09/2023 16:18

The Libya floods are certainly more important than the coronation, but a bigger news story? nope - more people cared about the coronation. Sad but true.

Finlesswonder · 16/09/2023 16:18

@YapYap2023
Well your DH is wrong it's been confirmed by both the times and c4

Kv2 · 16/09/2023 16:18

That's him. Apparently the rape trial was supposed to happen this year, I was hoping it was imminent since Disney seem to have quietly distanced themselves finally.
