Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

@Creative34 - what a disgusting post. I've reported your gross misogyny

Gross misogyny.. get a grip of yourself. Did you see his C4 shows back in the day… women and girls namely were queuing up around him

EmmaPaella · 16/09/2023 16:30

Ugh, the comments on here dismissing underage 'groupies' are making me feel ill.

Ponderingwindow · 16/09/2023 16:31

There are nuggets of an interesting story in there. The bit about potentially removing female staffers from a show so they could hire Brand is truly scandalous.

another little aside talks about the age of consent which would also be an interesting story for them to really dig into.

that a celebrity with a reputation turns out to have lived up to that reputation is hardly surprising. That a man with power abused that power even less so. My sympathy lies with the victims, but I often wonder if these media circuses actually bring them any peace.

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 16:32

Well it doesn't read at all pleasant that's for sure and I'll reserve judgement until after Dispatches, but I tend to think this is a witch hunt based on the Times article.

I like how Channel 4 got to say (paraphrased) "yeah these terrible crimes happened on our watch, women were moved aside for him on set, and protecting each other from him, but we were never informed cheers bye" - course.

All very seedy, mostly re-hashed stories from the past and most certainly not big revelations. But if these women are victims they deserve their chance - what a shame it's all anonymous.

16 year old is not underage is it , may not be in the best taste though

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:33

Ah, yeah, of course. When girls throw themselves at you they're ripe for abuse and deserve it.
What a crock of shit.

16 is legal for consent

Clymene · 16/09/2023 16:33

Perhaps you should read the article @Creative34

And just fyi women who engage in consensual sex with a man don't then deserve to be raped and sexually assaulted by him.

Rape apologist.

EmmaEmerald · 16/09/2023 16:35

If he is accused of doing illegal things via TV show, surely he can sue?

if nothing illegal happened, then it's bloody awful that this is the subject of a TV show.

See you have found him guilty already then !!!!!!

YepYepYepYep · 16/09/2023 16:36

Ugh, his statement is nauseating, im commenting on style not the content iyswim). It's so dismissive and ridiculous. Using 'baroque' is such a nasty thing to do? Is that what rape allegations are now?

I wouldn't dream of assuming him guilty or innocent - I'll leave that to the police but I can say that I think he is wrong and deeply unpleasant to trivialise such a serious issue.

He seems proud of being so promiscuous. It's sad that he can't see h

mynameiscalypso · 16/09/2023 16:36

In one of the cases, he apologises to the victim via text message for raping her. I assume that, as it was in the US, there are questions about the statute of limitations.

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:38

I stopped liking him when he left that awful message on Andrew Sach's answerphone.

topnoddy · 16/09/2023 16:25

A washed up no good/has been having allegations made against him IS NOT the biggest news story of the day let alone the year !

He has 6.5 million YouTube subscribers.

What a crock of shit.

No one has said that to be fair. If there is evidence of rape, Brand should be jailed.

I only read one suggestion of rape - unless I misread it didn't explicitly state rape, only that afterwards she went to the police and it obviously didn't go anywhere. However we know how tough it is to get a rape conviction.

Either way it reads as vile behaviour; over to Brand to defend himself I guess.

He can sue, but the journalists and their lawyers clearly believe that they have the evidence to defend their allegations on a balance of proof basis.

ThingthatgoesFFSinthenight · 16/09/2023 16:40

Sleazy comedian used his fame to coerce women to have sex with him. Allegations of rape. It’s awful. There should be a police investigation. But this is not the news item of the year.

We are under significant threat from Russia, China, climate breakdown and AI. Our politicians are lying, law breaking and corrupt sociopaths who don’t give two hoots about the more vulnerable in society. No one in power had the guts to take firm action on climate breakdown. There is so much evidence of those with power and money, deliberately taking action to keep us from the truth. The massive inequality between rich and poor in this country is sickening.

Russell Brand being a predatory sex pest, is quite frankly, barely newsworthy. Yes it’s awful. Yes, he should be investigated and the law fully applied, but this is not news.

Saverage · 16/09/2023 16:40

Agree with witch hunt. Anonymous women, none of whom went to the police?

Given the 16 year old girl's mother knew about the relationship from the start and even dropped her at his house, not sure why Brand would care more than the mother.

I've got no doubt Brand is an unpleasant narcissist and these stories are true or have a large element of truth, but a hyped TV show is not the arena for it. Nor is it a massive story.

Throughabushbackwards · 16/09/2023 16:38

He has 6.5 million YouTube subscribers.

Means nothing , they can be bought by the channel from You Tube !

He's only on there because he can't get any other work on TV or radio these days

YepYepYepYep · 16/09/2023 16:40

Sorry can't edit my last post

It's a shame he can't see how his casual sex with fans can have been a bad idea even if it was fully consensual. drink, casual sex and young women blinded by RB celebrity status is a very bad combination.

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 16:41

You know you can read a diverging view and dismiss it without running to the thought police?

I never liked him but that was a revolting thing for him to have done.

Brumbies · 16/09/2023 16:42

So defo Russell Brand

ColloidalSliver · 16/09/2023 16:42

How can it possibly be even minor news that Russell Brand is repellent? Surely anyone with half a brain could work that out?
