Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

i've only heard the name before not seen a pic of the guy before.

He does look alarming.
I gather he is a stand up comic & presenter?

Seems to be very famous judging by MN reactions tonight.
I will continue to hide all the threads about RB and wait patiently for the interest to blow over.

Lol "he does look alarming". It was just the 2010s my friend.

Who else is being protected by the Beeb and CH4?

I think there are definitely more cover ups. GB News is guilty too.

Haven’t you read the news?

This is worth watching from Daniel Sloss, the comedian on the Dispatches programme. THIS is what we need from men and him being on the show is him putting those words into action. Many talk the talk but don't walk the walk, really happy that he stepped up https://twitter.com/Leelabelle/status/1703156671407677744

Interesting wording when he said he was ‘too transparent’. Reminded me of Prince Andrew saying he was ‘too honourable’ or whatever he said. These poor honourable, honest men going round raping women all the time!!! What are they like, eh!!

Swashbuckled · 16/09/2023 23:00

I think the timing could be very useful for some. He seems to now be some guru with a healthy following (programme said lots of millions but can’t remember the exact number), including face to face gatherings. Gurus have historically used their perceived messianic power to groom women into (not really consensual) sex. If the coverage warns these followers, and some are receptive to the warning, then that’s a win.

To the many posters who minimised what or who this programme could be about as just this or that, that sexual assault would not be a big enough deal, or everyone knew RB was a creep, was that enough for you?

I thought I'd wait until the programme finished and I had watched it before I posted, to say anything about it, although speculating is totally expected and I read the threads I kept seeing posts that were simply depressing viewpoints from women and men who were really minimising abuse. What has happened to us that we need worse than this?? These alleged assaults were not long ago, they sounded convincing and well researched to me, and I really am in awe of how brave the women in the programme are. If WE don't see it as grotesque and devastating, what are we saying to victims -and perpetrators?

What has happened is that this 'revelation' has been seriously overhyped!!

Russell Brand has always been a sleazy creep. He has always turned my stomach, as did Jimmy So-vile, even when I was a child. Happily I never met either and I would never have wanted to. There was just something about both of them. Gary Glitter too, although I did enjoy the Glitter Band's music and once saw them live - long before any allegations against him came to light.

People were led to expect something on a much more massive scale, not just involving one accused - like a sex ring, or overt and complicit failure of his employers to stop him, etc. While the allegations are horrendous per se, it's not a massive leap to conceive that a man who was so unapologetically, serially and prolifically promiscuous, in the heights of sex and drug addiction, might have crossed the line between the consensual and the non-consensual.

It's just not on the scale that people were expecting. That does not diminish the nature of these allegations.

I've never heard of this comedian but she has just posted this on Twitter

Well, that's the thing with rapists, they don't rape every single woman they ever encounter, do they?

The posters on here did the convicting , trial by anti social media
GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY

Send him down and bang him up in a south London maisonette

ThnksfrthMmrs · 16/09/2023 23:22

I'm going to agree it's weird timing and that this is all via the media but also people are still talking about him in the comedy circuit. I believe it was him Katherine Ryan referred to this year in her interview with Louis Theroux. He's being hypocritical with his stance on things now and he's hosting wellness events for women, that's a massive red flag with his alleged past. It could potentially move into a bigger territory.

ThnksfrthMmrs · 16/09/2023 23:25

Also, no 30 something should be going out with a 16 year old. It SHOULD be illegal. Their brains are not fully developed. I think we know there are enough disgusting men out there who would not want a law like that passed. However, I'm sure there are enough parents that would.

GeneralLevy · 16/09/2023 23:31

Tbh when I saw him years ago, drug addict and sex addict I just presumed he wasn’t the type to be careful regarding consent from those facts alone. A few minutes of watching him then made it clear he had no boundaries in many ways. The kind of man you’d avoid.
A cynical side of me is surprised it’s even generated this much fuss, it’s like a distraction from other things. Creepy sex/ drug addict guy was creepy and had sex without demonstrating normal behaviours or any boundaries? I mean if you met a guy who wasn’t a celebrity who was massively in your face with their speaking manner and told you they were a drug and sex addict, and boasted about sex You’d run a mile!
Theres not exactly many TV celebrities I’d allow my kids around from that time, particularly comedians. I guess it best not to name names, but there’s been a fair few reinventing themselves

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/09/2023 23:42

Bet Phil Schofe is in his apartment huffing "they never made a o0min expose on me"

DynamicK · 16/09/2023 23:47

The whole entertainment industry is sleazy. I'd be surprised if we were aware of half the things that went in. So many people rely on drugs, have been abused and do abused. Many rumours of minors exploited and sexually abused.
They could really do a deep dive into the music, film and entertainment industry and uncover so, so much more.

It's not too late...!!

ThnksfrthMmrs · 16/09/2023 23:57

@DynamicK there is a man on TikTok who does deep dives into past news reports on famous people who are toxic. I can't remember his name but it is very eye opening at how this goes on so much.

I kept wondering who or why would RB be protected so much to keep being given TV jobs. It occurred to me that some higher ups or connections might have protected RB if he was undertaking behaviours alongside them and equally had dirt on them too. Just a thought.

DynamicK · 17/09/2023 00:07

@ThnksfrthMmrs I don't think anyone is really protecting RB in particular. They all protect each other because the whole industry is vile.
They seem to pick someone to uncover every now and then at a particular point when it was well known what was going on for years. Jimmy Savile, Andrew, R.Kelly.
I remember hearing rumours about R. Kelly for years.
I'm not minimising RB, and what's been reported about him, but there are way bigger targets who are still being protected probably.

AliciaLime · 17/09/2023 00:10

Finlesswonder · 16/09/2023 21:32

I think rape was basically normalised pre-2010. Don't get me wrong it has always been illegal. But if you listen to some of the laughing at his really dark stand up... There's definitely been an absolutely massive cultural shift

Reading some of the apologist responses here, I’d say the shift is in the wrong direction.

AliciaLime · 17/09/2023 00:12

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 16/09/2023 22:55

Yep.

DynamicK · 17/09/2023 00:15

Harvey Weinstein, Epstein and his sleazy island. This is all common knowledge in the industry. When they protect someone, it's because they're protecting everyone.

ThnksfrthMmrs · 17/09/2023 00:16

@DynamicK I'm only going off of Daniel Sloss saying comedians were told not to talk or joke about RB. He queried where that originated as opposed to ousting RB, they hushed his critics. Then the private Whatsapp groups where female comics had to warn each other.

I do agree there are bigger predators though which is really concerning.

Theyspunawebforme · 17/09/2023 00:17

But Katherine Ryan seems v outspoken, so what stopped her/warned her off?
