The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

He’s highly intelligent. It’s no coincidence he has cultivated the narrative and following he has it’s a ready made support and defence network.

Don't mistake an expansive vocabulary for intelligence

How was it allowed to go on for so long.

Very easily? Look at how many women on here today haven't believed it.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 21:36

Charlize43 · 16/09/2023 21:33

Why is he claiming that 'the establishment is out to get him' when some of the women are American, like the one who was raped in LA?

Because it doesn't matter if what he says is a crock of shit. People WANT to believe him. And that will mean he will continue to have a revenue stream until he's locked up.

newnamethanks · 16/09/2023 21:33

Highly intelligent? What measurements are you using for that? Looks like standard basic narcissistic bloke to me. No fame, he wouldn't get the time of day from 99.99 per cent of women.

Highly intelligent as in he is a master of manipulation and planning ahead, throws in a few long words and hippy outfits and gives himself the image of a calm reformed character all about peace and exposing the truth. Probably all planned years in advance knowing this would come out at some point

He always had that creepy aura about it, he actually reminds me of the child catcher in ccbb! The mannerisms and odd intonation, just very clearly someone you want to avoid and who makes you feel uncomfortable !

Exactly. He makes me feel 'dirty' and there is no logical reason.

Using what metrics? His ability to incorrectly regurgitate a dictionary to manipulate people into listening to him? The man is a dangerously manipulative narcissist and has been known as such for over 20 years.

Yes! Or Rasputin.

iamwhatiam23 · 16/09/2023 21:37

I've known about the rumours about him for ages and believe these women. Im watching dispatches now and its really just struck me how dead behind the eyes he is and very strange ( just like a certain Jimmy Saville). How did i not notice this until now?

Yes - precisely that, not conventional intelligence but manipulative intelligence, he’s dangerous

Most of his anti establishment focus is US based, it's how he's growing his audience. I don't think he can continue this line given all the evidence.

WellReallynow · 16/09/2023 21:40

Eartoday · 16/09/2023 21:37

Yes! Or Rasputin.

Yes you can imagine him prancing around alone talking to himself in a mirror thinking hes oh so charming when he has always come across as some kind of slimy reptilian pirate

I worked there. 'OWNED' pertains to editorial control as well as financial. The gov has neither over C4

Falconfield · 16/09/2023 21:40

I feel a bit uncomfortable with this programme and I'm unsure if I should be, or if I have been brought up with such ingrained misogyny that it has unconsciously warped my thinking.

I mean should this be shown when it hasn't been hashed out in court?
But then it's notoriously difficult to actually get sexual assault in any form to be taken seriously in the first place.

I am presuming channel 4, the Times, etc wouldn't air this is they weren't sure of the evidence because it's very clear RB will sue.

I just feel like it's all a bit he said she said without a huge amount of evidence being shown, but then I suppose that's the problem with a lot of SA cases, which doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I suppose it's making me question myself a lot because I still automatically think, what if it's not true and this is trial by media. Shouldn't I be thinking no smoke without fire, and this might be the only way for these women to get any form of justice.

Islandsadness · 16/09/2023 21:34

Because some women decide not go to the police so the justice system can't do anything about it, much "safer" to go the media and tell your story so that everyone knows who you are and end in all the tabloids? My advice to anyone who gets raped is to go to the police before you go to Channel 4.

hihelenhi · 16/09/2023 21:40

The Geldof comment was due to Peaches, I believe (I think RB "dated" her at 16) but correct me if I'm wrong.

This is full on. But it's important it's all out there. And for a different generation than mine to see it and get it and call it out. I never liked him and wouldn't have been cheering on what I'd have seen even then as abusive shit in his standup, but everyone needs to know what rapey coercive control looks like. It was being SO enabled by the "oh it's all just a laugh innit, yay, all sex is good sex!" attitudes at the time. But it's control, rape and sexual assault. The story about the spitting is horrendous. That poor girl.

Mysterian · 16/09/2023 21:41

I can't watch any more. I'll read about the rest in newspapers tomorrow. I need to go do some happy stuff for a bit.

His "comedy" hasnt aged well either

Terrribletwos · 16/09/2023 21:43

Yep! He's always given me the "ick"! As did Jimmy Saville years ago...same vibe.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 21:44

And there you have it. Big Brother staff saying they had lots of girls calling them in distress.

100% going to be a bunch of other women who will come forward.

Hardchoice · 16/09/2023 21:44

I tried to watch it, but watched the first few minutes. I found it lurid and full on and switched off. My qn is why did CH4 and The Times not take the details to the police

Islandsadness · 16/09/2023 21:45

And when the police mock you? Call you hysterical? Ask if maybe you'd just had a drink and wanted it?

Or if it goes to court and the defence talk about your relationship history, the sexy underwear you own, you 'revenge' motivations because you're not pretty enough to get men?

When you lose your job because you spoke out against someone powerful in your business, and people start avoiding your calls and turning you into a meme on the internet?

You can't be that naive.

Surely this brings Endemol and other production companies under the Ch4 umbrella into question - so it's a bit odd that Ch4 are airing it, or have I missed something?

How lucky for you that you can switch off. The women targeted by RB don’t have that luxury.

Maybe watch and your question will get answered.
