The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

Very easily? Look at how many women on here today haven't believed it.

How do you know the posters are women?

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 21:46

And there you have it again. Other members of staff raised complaint / concerns about Brand's inappropriate behaviour. Which were ignored by more senior management.

Its text book. Its like other scandals.

Falconfield · 16/09/2023 21:46

Are you saying I'm a rape apologist?

Fuck off.

Blinkingbonkers · 16/09/2023 21:47

From a (total) layman - the US cases may have legs in court, the UK accusations less so. I’m really sorry - the whole point of our judicial system is Innocent till PROVEN guilty. There is a total arsehole about to be released for manslaughter where he blatantly premeditatedly murdered his wife in a brutal fashion (with more than plausible evidence). I’m really sorry, RB is small fry, if anything at all….I mean, anyone admitting to being a sex addict is going to be a bonafide dickhead… They absolutely should have gone to the police.

Wow, you're quite pathetic and ignorant.

All the victim blamers coming out this evening hey.

Guess you'd tell your daughter the same thing.

foxylab2023 · 16/09/2023 21:47

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 21:44

And there you have it. Big Brother staff saying they had lots of girls calling them in distress.

100% going to be a bunch of other women who will come forward.

But it said they were distressed because he didn't call them back/strike up a relationship...

Hardchoice · 16/09/2023 21:47

I meant why didn’t CH4 abd the Times take the details to the Police

DoThePropeller · 16/09/2023 21:47

Reasons they may not have involved the police, it didn’t happen in the UK, which I assume makes it tricky. The prosecution rate for rape is ridiculously low anyway, it’s basically legal. The women may not want to go through the legal process.

SoLongAndThankForAllTheVaricoseVeins · 16/09/2023 21:47

Shouldn't I be thinking no smoke without fire, and this might be the only way for these women to get any form of justice.

Yes, @Falconfield , you should be thinking exactly this. The lawyers will simply not have allowed this to go out without the burden of evidence being sufficient to withstand the inevitable legal challenge.

2% of reported rapes result in conviction. Many, many more are never reported due to this, and we know how institutionally, our police forces have included rapists, misogynists and woman killers. Why would women on the wrong end of a power imbalance trust themselves, their reputations and their mental health to the police?

Believe women when they tell you they have been abused. The process of trying to get justice for rape and sexual assault is so horrific for the victim that nobody sane would make it up.

Of course you can be groomed as an adult. Abusive men wouldn’t get anywhere if it wasn’t possible to groom adults into accepting their behaviour.

Child abusers, for example, often groom whole families.

rootsandwings89 · 16/09/2023 21:46

No I'm not fucking joking - what are you on about? She says they had consensual sex. What are we supposed to be alarmed about here?

BeckyBoo841 · 16/09/2023 21:48

Rape apologists out in force today. Absolutely disgraceful. I hope to hell you don't have a daughter. Or worse. A son.

InYourRoom · 16/09/2023 21:48

Hardchoice · 16/09/2023 21:47

You don't know they haven't - obviously if they've done the research they are going to report it.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/09/2023 21:48

urgh some of these comments are truly disgraceful. always the same with these threads, always with the victim blaming

Pupinski · 16/09/2023 20:20

Yes, only rape, sexual assault and coercive behaviour against multiple women. What's all the fuss about? 🤷‍♀️

Because it's still not quite the biggest story of the year.

I'm not unsympathetic to anyone involved but it's not on a par with some of the national disasters that have hit this planet this year. Amongst other things.

From some of the other posts, RB's behaviour wasn't as secret so why is it only being focused on now?

StBrides · 16/09/2023 21:49

foxylab2023 · 16/09/2023 21:47

But it said they were distressed because he didn't call them back/strike up a relationship...

You're cherry picking. It said they felt used. It is important testimony because it establishes a pattern of manipulative and callous behaviour, where young, naive women were repeatedly and consistently targeted.

BeckyBoo841 · 16/09/2023 21:49

Invalidusername88 · 16/09/2023 21:48

Did you miss the rape earlier? Or is that not enough for you either.

CherryMaDeara · 16/09/2023 21:49

SheilaWilde · 16/09/2023 21:45

Surely this brings Endemol and other production companies under the Ch4 umbrella into question - so it's a bit odd that Ch4 are airing it, or have I missed something?

It does bring Endemol into question, but also Channel 4. Like the BBC knew about Savile, I suspect Endemol and Ch4 would have known about RB.

But it would be even worse for Channel 4 to direct Dispatches not to investigate RB and make the documentary. At that point broadcasters would lose all credibility.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 21:49

foxylab2023 · 16/09/2023 21:47

But it said they were distressed because he didn't call them back/strike up a relationship...

They said 'mainly not calling back'. The wording suggested there was other stuff going on and they were told other things too.

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 16/09/2023 21:49

I think it's quite infuriating that these staff that were recruiting audiences at the university and then handing out his number, are now pitying the "lambs to the slaughter" and themselves, if this is true they played a massive part in this, now they have hindsight oh poor them.
