@misssunshine4040 people are entitled to have their own opinion which may differ from your own. We agree she shouldn't of stole however that level of force wasn't needed from the shop keeper

Of course. And you are correct in your comment.
But where is the racism? Where is she an innocent victim and why are the protests occurring??

Women die at the hands of men every day due to violence but this is not why people are protesting. They are using this as something to claim as racism when it's not

AmIAutumnalNow · 14/09/2023 10:13

Can @Lndnmummy explain where the hate speech is on this thread

Please.

I presume people have seen the footage?

The age-old problem of Asian stores selling Black beauty products resurfaces. One of the causes of the Lozells riots in Birmingham in 2005 was attributed to this. We must develop coping mechanisms for situations like these if we want to live in a multicultural society.

What is the problem with Asian shops selling black beauty products?

@misssunshine4040 I have tried to watch the whole video which is on several websites. I have tried to be reasonable in my comments.
And I don't subscribe to the view that no woman should ever be hit/slapped. A woman who has been the aggressor should expect to be slapped/ hit in return. The whole 'never hit a woman ' mantra really applies to DV etc, not people scrapping in public.

Edited

Even if you think the shopkeeper’s use of violence was justified (I don’t) - how can you stand behind him strangling her?

You REALLY think murder is a justified response?

Barbiesback · 14/09/2023 10:20

@misssunshine4040 you're coming across as very shouty. If you read through my posts here, are you sure it was me that was saying the shop keeper was being racist? It wasn't me I've focused on the fact that when you run a business stealing may occur. I told you several pages back that it shouldnt be dealt with like this.

AmIAutumnalNow · 14/09/2023 10:20

loislovesstewie · 14/09/2023 10:22

He isn't 'strangling 'her. Firstly she hits him first, she allegedly tries to steal. He has one hand on the back of her neck and another partly on her shoulder and partly on her neck. I can't see any point where his hands are being brought together to choke her. The Guardian footage is very grainy, however
, there might be better footage. This whole sorry episode would not have happened had she accepted a credit note or exchange as she was offered. A refund was not on the agenda. And not tried to shoplift or hit him.

Barbiesback · 14/09/2023 10:23

@misssunshine4040 maybe the protestors decided to take matters into their own hands just like the shop keeper. I don't know, I'm not a protestor so I can't answer you on that one!

Lndnmummy · 14/09/2023 10:28

Question. If a woman wears a barely there skirt, does that make her complicit in her assault if she was sexually assaulted? If a woman 'goads' her partner who is prone to aggression, is it her fault that he hits her?

When the victim is black, the victim, in order to be seen as a victim, has to be perfect. In every way. This is the result of living in a country where white supremacy prevails. It means the way we look at
victimhood, is race dependent. Which is racist.

Unfortunately, most of us white people can not see this. This is the result of our white privilige. It is racist.

According to the video clips, the way he tried to deal with her (alleged) shoplifting was by blocking her way out of his shop. So his reaction to stealing wasn’t unreasonable.
Putting his hands around her neck (which was wrong) happened in response to her hitting him around the head with the shopping basket.

That is exactly what we did! In support of this woman, and every black woman like her, in our local communiry.

Err no. But you're doing a good job of making this woman perfect.

You can instigate a scenario, and still be a victim of disproportionate force.

This situation is not the same as someone wearing clothes and minding their own business

Wearing a short skirt and repeatedly bashing someone over the head is hardly the same.

What is the legal definition of strangle?
^
(4) the term "strangling" means intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of a person by applying pressure to the throat or neck, regardless of whether that conduct results in any visible injury or whether there is any intent to kill or protractedly injure the victim.

He DID strangle her.

loislovesstewie · 14/09/2023 10:35

We have no evidence that her breathing was impacted. I'll await further news from the police or other professionals on that.

misssunshine4040 · 14/09/2023 10:44

@Lndnmummy why are you desperate to find this racist?
Your examples are not in any way comparable to this situation and it's patronising to go on as if people are stupid.

Shoplifter gets caught by an aggressive man. That's all. Both should be dealt with:

No need in anyway to make her a martyr

Awful sticker. Describing people as ‘parasites’ and telling others not to shop with them is reminiscent of different times and places, not something to be repeated.
On this thread, some posters said that those business owners didn’t really understand their hair and only wanted their money.
If they really don’t know enough about the products they’re selling, don’t shop with them?
Wanting money is not unusual for a business though.
