I'm going to buy a coverless duvet!

Morning all!

I'm excited to be buying a coverless duvet for myself. The boys have one and their brilliant.

What tog should I get? I really don't think I want multiple duvets!!

Love, love, love ours. I’ve got rid of all normal duvet covers and duvets in our house. We all have a 4.5 and a 10 tog from Night Owl, the ones were not using fit really neatly in the storage bags they come in.

Coverless duvet has been my favourite purchase. So easy to wash!

I’ve got a 4.5 tog and a wool throw for winter. Slumberdown do a good 10.5 tog if you don’t want an extra throw in winter.

I bought a 4.5tog to take camping in France this summer. I loved it and am tempted to buy more.
My only slight concern is how well a 10.5 tog would fit in my washing machine and how long it would take to dry.

Another fan here! We got a lovely one a month ago- fine bedding company (I think that was the name)

We are going to get childrens' ones this month.

Makes life so much easier!

My family are mad on these, I don't get it. A duvet cover takes up less space in the washing machine? And duvets rarely need washing, and when they do its pretty cheap and easy to drop the superking one for a service wash, and the kids singles fit in the washing machine and don't take long to dry.

Love ours. I got the cotton waffle one from night owl 10.5 tog king size. It only just fits in the washing machine but I love it.
I wish there were better colours/patterns, but I’m still very happy with my white one.

I love bedding and changing my duvet covers (while a pain) is a quick way to make the room feel fresh and new. Why would you want to see the same thing all the time?

My 10.5 fits in my 8kg washing machine without issue.

When I was young a counterpane was the blanket you put on top as the last layer of your bedding. Ours had fancy silky edges.

I feel the same (though I’m here with an open mind). And if you spill coffee on it (ahem) or have a nosebleed (I appreciate my family has a lot more than the average!) then it’s easier to get the stain out. Plus all the little pulls etc that they inevitably get over time, it’s much more sustainable to just replace a cover than the whole thing? I know I must be missing something but I just don’t know what!

I love ours! We have them on all the beds now. I do sometimes put a cover on them and then just bung the whole thing in washing machine. I find it a bit gross now thinking about how long normal duvets go between washing, but maybe it's just my household where stuff gets spilled on the duvet or someone has a nappy leak and gets some pee on the cover that soaks through or whatever! 🥴

The singles that my boys have dry in a couple of hours or less. I wash and sling it over their bedroom door.

I'm tempted by the waffle one for myself.

My eldest has one from m&s and I'm not impressed with it. My mother in law has had to stitch the edging in again. My youngest has one from the fine bedding company and i love it.

Bed making is a huge barrier for me. Anything that makes it easier is a bonus.

So it’s basically a big thick bedspread that you wash once a week?

I don't get it either.

My granny had eiderdowns in her house and I remember when she got her first duvet and found out she didn't have to wash and dry the whole thing. She was thrilled.

They dry really fast. You wouldn't need two unless your house is very damp and cold. Ours dry in a few hours hung up.

It’s not a comforter or like a sleeping bag. It’s a proper thick duvet but with a cotton textured fabric stitched on/into the duvet (I’ve only bought ones that are cotton).
i like a clean duvet and can’t be bothered going to dry cleaners. These just go straight in the washing machine in the morning, dry by bed time and no ironing.
No faff for an always clean fresh duvet.

So he doesn't have to bother taking a duvet cover off which should take thirty seconds but he does have to pay to wash a duvet? And if it gets wet in the meantime he will have to sleep under a bath towel?

Well we don’t have any single duvets so I need to buy one for him anyway. Plus his bed is extra long so I need one plus duvet covers in euro length (which even IKEA don’t sell anymore). I can get a cover less duvet in the right length though so it would be cheaper and in theory - if they dry quickly and don’t just look like sleeping bags, then it might be a good option and easier to clean.

So just a duvet cover would take less time in the tumble dryer but then you have the arduous task of putting on a cover? I don't know what the world is coming to when people can't be arsed to change their own bed.
