Did you meet your DH/DP the old fashioned way. You know, in person?

I met my DH when we were introduced by my friend and her DP. It was my birthday and we'd planned a group night out in town with others and they had asked if they could include him . I said ok and that was that. The rest is history.

We went on to be bridesmaid and best man at each others weddings and godparents to each others children. In fact our marriage has outlasted theirs.

That’s lovely! You must have been so chuffed when the random they invited to your birthday turned out to be a hottie!

I met mine in person, but at work, which I think is probably the boring version of meeting in person sadly.

I met mine in person. We both play the same instrument, joined the same local group and 10 years later we're married with 2 DDs

I met my DH at work, he was the clever handsome but incredibly awkward chap that my friend and I ogled at but never spoke to! One day we crossed paths and had to have a conversation. Coincidentally we went on lunch at the same time and had a proper convo - ended in us exchanging phone numbers and the rest is history! Almost 17 years later we are married with two ds’s and a very daft dog!

ArcticBells · 25/08/2023 13:09

@ScarlettBeauregarde You met Mr Right, it doesn't matter where!

Highlyflavouredgravy · 25/08/2023 13:11

Yes! At the Saturday night disco at uni.
Been together 31 years now😲

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/08/2023 13:11

I met my DH at a ballroom dancing class. My friend wanted to go and talked me in to going with her, but she forgot to turn up so I went in by myself.

Neverseenbefore · 25/08/2023 13:11

Yes, at work.

Ambi · 25/08/2023 13:12

Yes because it was 90s and OLD wasnt really a thing.

HB1974 · 25/08/2023 13:12

I met my OH when we were both members of a social type group. We were friends first then got drunk together! 😁

Canadagoosling · 25/08/2023 13:12

University

tescocreditcard · 25/08/2023 13:13

Yep!

You lot don't know what you're missing. Get off the internet and get yourself into bars and pubs. Nothing, but nothing, beats eyeing up someone you fancy across the bar and finding some kind of excuse to open up a conversation with them.

Fallulah · 25/08/2023 13:14

Yes. I met him when I went to buy something (to say what would out me immediately) - he accidentally left a bit of paperwork with me that he needed when I picked up said thing, I sent it back with a thank you and the rest is history. ❤️

SheWontSheCantShesLeft · 25/08/2023 13:14

Yes, through mutual friends.

23 years ago, just on the cusp of when online dating was taking off. I have friends and family who met their partners via OD at same time or shortly after I met dh.

Pebblepaint · 25/08/2023 13:15

Yes. I was picked up in a sleazy nightclub 😆

Pebblepaint · 25/08/2023 13:16

Together 32 years, until he died

Alarae · 25/08/2023 13:18

In the pub. He embarrassingly danced over to me (think Inbetweeners, but more pointing fingers than exaggerated dance moves) and asked to buy me a drink. Despite at least seven tequila shots I said no as he didn't know me (my moral compass is very high when drunk).

He then laid down the smoothest line he's ever gave, which was 'well why don't I get to know you over a drink?'

He still watches the Inbetweeners Grin

lucya66 · 25/08/2023 13:19

Yes. I was walking to a train station and he ran past me, heading for the same platform. He caught my eye, this tall skinny man all in a rush.

I got to the platform a few minutes later and he was stood there, out of breath but with plenty of time until the train arrived. I went over to him and asked him the time. I had the time already! But I wanted to talk to him.

We sat together on the train and the rest is history. That was 16 years ago.

BananaSlug · 25/08/2023 13:21

Yes people still meet in person. I’m single so not me but most of my friends have met their partners irl. Not online.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 25/08/2023 13:24

Yes, we met at a local sports event we were both volunteering at. Seven years ago!

ShutTheDoorBabe · 25/08/2023 13:26

No. I met him online over 15 years ago. I was too shy to meet people the old fashioned way!

icebearforpresident · 25/08/2023 13:27

Husband and I went to the same school and even had a couple of classes together but never really spoke until he started dating my best friend 😳

(I should add that it was a not at all serious 4 week thing, and she was on holiday for 2 of those. She was my maid of honour when we got married and I still see her at least twice a week)

SecondhandSalute · 25/08/2023 13:28

At university. It was the early 90s. No other way of meeting people had yet been invented, other than lonely hearts columns in newspapers, dating agencies and matchmakers.

Jaffapaffa · 25/08/2023 13:29

Yes - Open University summer school

Uppitywoman · 25/08/2023 13:31

We got chatting on the CB radio back in 1989. We went on a date the next day and married 16 months later. We're still together and still have a CB radio too!

Dreamingofasandybeach · 25/08/2023 13:33

yep he was my manager at work and hated him (he was only doing his job though) 🤣 was moved to a different team the next year and then got to know him better on work nights out and fell completely head over heels 🥰
