Did you meet your DH/DP the old fashioned way. You know, in person?

I met my DH when we were introduced by my friend and her DP. It was my birthday and we'd planned a group night out in town with others and they had asked if they could include him . I said ok and that was that. The rest is history.

We went on to be bridesmaid and best man at each others weddings and godparents to each others children. In fact our marriage has outlasted theirs.

Yes, I met DH in 2008 in a group night out for the parkour club we went to.

I did online dating from 2001-2003, and it was fun in those days. Very different now and I don't think I'd enjoy it!

There's some lovely stories here. In my case I definitely had my beer goggles on that night.

Met in person - at university, October 1985!
Barely been apart since then - 33 years married

autumnboys · 25/08/2023 17:12

Yes, Uni in the early 90s.

My sister's then boyfriend was the middle of a Venn diagram of people, he knew people in one group (who I knew) and also another group that I didn't. My DH was in the other group and we met at a mutual friend's girlfriend's party. Didn't think much of each other but then met again at a NYE bash at a local pub and clicked. Must have been about 1998 as we were an item next year at the Millennium NYE.

He's everything to me 😍

tuvamoodyson · 25/08/2023 17:25

Yes..at work.

StopThatBloodyNoise · 25/08/2023 17:30

I met my husband when we worked in the same building - different jobs, different floors. We got chatting, then dated, got engaged, moved in together, then later got married and had 2 kids. That was a long time ago. 43 years married now.

SgtPercyTwentyman · 25/08/2023 17:31

Yes. My best mate's g/f had a best mate. They introduced me to her. Been married 45 years in Sept.

girlfriend44 · 25/08/2023 17:53

Dabadumm · 25/08/2023 17:55

We met at school, best friends and then started dating in year 10.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/08/2023 18:00

We met in the sauna at the gym 😂. He left a business card on my car and the rest is history! This was 17 years ago though.

ApolloandDaphne · 25/08/2023 18:19

I met DH over 40 years ago when he arrived in halls in his first year at uni. I was in the same halls and in second year. I was going out with someone else but DH turned my head so I dumped him and I set my sights on DH. The rest as they say, is history!

1stTimeMama · 25/08/2023 18:35

I met mine in person. At my first wedding.
He wasn't the reason it all went wrong though, that was the dickhead of a first husband's fault!

girlfriend44 · 25/08/2023 17:53

Yes we met in person

My tired eyes absolutely read that as 'we met in prison'!

KathieFerrars · 25/08/2023 18:39

At uni. He asked me to join his choir. Been together since 1984.

ifonly4 · 25/08/2023 18:43

I gave up on meeting someone and decided to buy a flat just for myself. Loved my flat, so really didn't want to meet anyone. The chap upstairs had a party and invited his new neighbour (plus one) in flat downstairs (me). I took my friend and the next morning she said, 'I think you're in there'. I was, and he proposed within two months. Still together 28 years later. I suppose you could say I married the boy next door!

SushiSuave · 25/08/2023 19:14

I met my OH 2 weeks in to university. I went to a house party of a friend of a friend (dressed as a cave girl...) and he opened the front door. We will be celebrating 15 years together in December Smile

Icequeen01 · 25/08/2023 19:18

Met mine at a party when he was 15 and I was coming up to 17. We've been together for 45 years and married for 38 years.

NameChangeEmbarressed · 25/08/2023 19:24

Yep. We met in a pub on a night out. My friend went off with his friend and we got chatting. We're still together now but ours friends split up over 19 years ago after about 3 months together

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 25/08/2023 19:30

Yes, he was vaguely friends with my sister and we met in a pub when he came over to say hello to her.

dressedforcomfort · 25/08/2023 23:11

We were introduced via a mutual friend. So was in person. That was 22 years ago.

But in the end does it really matter how you meet. I know some very happy couples who met via Eharmony etc.

MaidOfSteel · 25/08/2023 23:22

I met my husband at work, but we only got together when I moved on to another job.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 26/08/2023 01:00

Yes. Met him the first day of university. I'm 28.

Lagershandy · 26/08/2023 01:06

Yes, introduced by a mutual friend at a sporting event.
Happily married for 46 years.

Littlechickenleg · 28/08/2023 09:41

After a couple of years single, I decided to try Internet dating so signed up to bumble on the advice of my hairdresser. Told a friend what I'd done and she said I should meet her father in law. He was a sweetie with stunning blue eyes. When she showed me a photo I realised I'd already swiped left (to reject him 😱).
So we arranged to meet. He brought me a coffee and as he got out the car he spilt it down himself. Broke the ice and 3 years later still together.
