Song that you irrationally hate…

Mine is (I’ve Had) the Time of My Life, from ‘Dirty Dancing’.

It’s like nails on a chalk board and I can’t even explain why. It’s not even the worst song but it gives me rage and I always have to turn over the radio when it’s on.

Add to that any song by Anastacia, although these days she is rarely played on the radio.

I’m hoping that it’s not just me and suspect everyone has “that song” that they just cannot stand, for no rhyme nor reason. What is yours?

All I want to do is have some fun, Sheryl Crow. Also Seal, Kiss from a Rose......hate hate hate

oh yes, those are two good i.e. terrible ones.

The opening 'la da da da dee dee dee dee ' notes to Kiss From A Rose gives me the ragiest rages.

Valerie23 · 22/08/2023 15:11

Bieber. Shudder. What was that speaking song he made ? It set off a trigger in me that made me want to kill.

Valerie23 · 22/08/2023 15:12

I hate Friends. The theme tune is also diabolical.

Savemesos · 22/08/2023 15:13

Ride on time by Blackbox (I think?). It was played incessantly at the time. I hate it.

Shortkiwi · 22/08/2023 15:13

Someone else mentioned anything by Queen which I agree with.
Also not keen on the Pet Shop Boys
Also agree with Build me up Buttercup - hate it
Status Quo, Florence and the machine, Lewis Capaldi and The Who are also on my dislike list
Several mentioned on here I like!

@Valerie23

Hahaha 🤣 what a brilliant typo…
Catatonic - Mulder and awfully

CharliesAngles · 22/08/2023 15:15

@Savemesos
Omg I was trying to think of this one!

CharliesAngles · 22/08/2023 15:17

Black box Ride on Time I mean

That awful Top loader song- dancing in the moonlight. Loathe it.

Rage-inducing. Plus Knocking on Heavens Door and anything sung by Bob Dylan makes me want to smash the house up. Never understood the appeal of him

LeonardoAcropolis · 22/08/2023 15:22

Africa by Toto. The whole thing is loathsome, especially the tune and the instrumentals. The opening chords make me grimace. I think Google has heard me slate it, as my Google nest puts it into every playlist.

Hollyhocky · 22/08/2023 15:23

Any song that tells me I must be happy - e.g. Wake up it's a beautiful morning.

Instinct1 · 22/08/2023 15:24

Anything by Catatonia really, but especially MULLLLDDER AND SCUUUULLLLLEEEE 😡

CheetosCheerios · 22/08/2023 15:25

I also hate Brimful of Asha, but had to conceal my rage as for years the singer lived on my road and is a really nice bloke Grin.

I hate it too

AffIt · 22/08/2023 15:30

'Young at Heart' by the Bluebells makes me slam cupboard doors. Hate that fucking song, no idea why.

Also anything by INXS, but that's because I had a terrible ex who loved them, so not quite so irrational.

Forwardthinkinglobster · 22/08/2023 15:31

I can now imagine all the artists anxiously trawling this thread to see if their name comes up 😂

Lady Antebellum Need you now

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 22/08/2023 15:35

Dancing In The Moonlight.

I always thought I was the only one who detested this song, but I'm happy to discover I'm not.

CrepuscularCat · 22/08/2023 15:37

Bohemian Rhapsody. I was 17 when it came out and a lad I really fancied thought it was the greatest song ever, so I pretended to like it too. I spent lunch hours in deep discussion with him, and I really thought we'd connected. I actually hated it, and I ended up hating it even more when he asked another girl out.

I still feel an irrational rage 48 years later!

Seryse · 22/08/2023 15:39

I sang every single one of these while reading them. I hate you all 🤣

I'm in the mood for dancing - The nolan sisters i think it was?

My blood pressure rises at the first few bars, mum played it constantly when I was wee, literally same song over and over for an hour while she was cleaning the kitchen. It helped her, but I despise it now 😒

Wuthering heights - Kate Bush. Piss off with the whiny warbling!! Same goes for you Mariah carey if you happen to be bored and readuhg mumsnet🤣

Lift me Up by Geri Halloween

i can’t not help but hear her intake of breaths through it it makes me feel ill

taxguru · 22/08/2023 15:46

daisy2002 · 22/08/2023 13:31

Get here by Oleta Adams.
Empire state of mind by Alicia Keys.
Fairytale of New York by the Pogues.
Anything by Spandau Ballet, Adele and Sam Smith.

Hating Fairytale of New York isn't irrational - it's perfectly normal/rational to hate such an awful nasty song!
