Song that you irrationally hate…

Mine is (I’ve Had) the Time of My Life, from ‘Dirty Dancing’.

It’s like nails on a chalk board and I can’t even explain why. It’s not even the worst song but it gives me rage and I always have to turn over the radio when it’s on.

Add to that any song by Anastacia, although these days she is rarely played on the radio.

I’m hoping that it’s not just me and suspect everyone has “that song” that they just cannot stand, for no rhyme nor reason. What is yours?

Living Next Door to Alice by Smokey.

I really can’t have any sympathy for someone who just didn’t have the balls to tell Alice that he was always in love with her. Ok, she might not have felt the same way, but at least ask her out and find out if the feeling’s mutual. It’s no good whining about what might have been, on her wedding day for gods sake!

Or maybe Alice DID know how he felt, but like me, couldn’t stand his grating voice and chose to ignore his approaches?

Jet - are you gonna be my girl. No idea why and totally irrational but makes me feel sick

Simply the Best
I Will Always Love You
The Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood

‘Why does it always rain on me?’ By whoever it is.

Answer: Because you’re

  1. singing this super annoying, whiny dirge.
  2. a cunt.

spits out tea

I agree completely!

And Sally should have said something earlier, too.

Maggiethecat · 22/08/2023 22:52

Anything by Lewis bloody Capaldi!

AppletreesAndHoneybeesAndSnowWhiteTurtleDoves · 22/08/2023 23:03

Dreams by Gabrielle it’s very irritating

The Wings song about the Scottish island

Floopyfloop · 22/08/2023 23:09

Super Trouper Abba. I love Abba but this song is awful

DuesToTheDirt · 22/08/2023 23:16

So much hate on here for some of my favourites Grin. I love Love Shack, What's Up (4 Non Blondes), Gangster's Paradise, Baker St...

DuesToTheDirt · 22/08/2023 23:17

imagine - John Lennon just sanctimonious drivel

I agree with this though.

Waferbiscuit · 22/08/2023 23:17

Any songs about 'not having or building your confidence'. Urgh. Why!

First there was 'Beautiful' by Christina Aguilera then that plastic bag song (Firework) by Katy Perry then a whole raft of songs on the theme by Pink, like Fuckin Perfect. Yuck.

Why do people want to listen to women moaning about their confidence?

When I was young we listened to songs where the lyrics were like fun wordplay - 'pulling muscles from the shell' or cinematic - 'she looks like Eva Marie Saint in on the waterfront' - and any moaning was relegated to the Smiths and frankly done well.

Now it's just endless dirge about how I need to learn to love myself and my body while I post pictures of it on social media. Fgs.

HRTQueen · 22/08/2023 23:42

White Flag Dido how could such boring dull music become so popular it was baffling

Perfect Ten - Beautiful South (and all their other songs apart from Everyone’s Talking)

True Colours Cindy Lauper her voice is awful

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 22/08/2023 23:43

Sugar Baby Love by the Rubettes. Just the title makes my teeth hurt.

Certain 1970s girl groups who used to produce what I always think of as ‘pink noise’ - a sort of high pitched candyfloss sound with little hint of a discernible tune. I include the likes of Barbara Dickson who used to appear on the Two Ronnies and was usually my cue to go to the loo or get a drink.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 22/08/2023 23:48

Sam Smith- unmemorable songs and Boeing voice.

Typo? 🤣🤣🤣 I love the idea of a singer with a voice like a jumbo jet engine!

FictionalCharacter · 23/08/2023 00:15

I love some of these and hate some of them 😁
Mine is Unchained Melody. Hideous.

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2023 00:19

Vonda Shepard - Searching my Soul
I'll be there for you - The Rembrandts

Terrible songs that would have gone nowhere if they weren't tv show themes

It's even worse than Road Rage or The Ballad of Tom Jones!

UnctuousUnicorns · 23/08/2023 01:20

Oh fuck yeah, Lewis Capaldi. "I let my guard down...and you... WUARGHH, WUARGHH, WUARGHH..." Fuck off, you great whinging big girls blouse. Oh, you're considering retiring from music? Halle-fucking-lujah, please do.
