I’m trying to get to folding the laundry. The pup is going through the pre-nap extinction burst so it’s hard to pull away. She was just chewing a lamp cord.

I’m one of those annoying women whose husband does more than 50% of the household work if left unchecked. So can’t relax or he’ll do it all.

This is a problem because?

jeffgoldblum · 13/08/2023 16:13

I think ( and I could be wrong) but if it's like me , it's because you feel guilty for sitting down doing nowt @Maireas !

So funny because I miss being over there.

But let me ask, did you know that it’s common in some areas/circles of the US to hang out in the garage with the doors open? Yesterday we went to a family party. 4 massive tables in the garage. Crockpots galore. It’s pretty awesome actually. They have a perfectly nice home with space but for some reason, this is how it’s done.

My husband said it’s so they don’t mess up the house, even for company.

I have a massive weeping spot on my face.

I shouldn’t have squeezed it, I should’ve left it alone. Why do I never learn?

Also dreading work tomorrow. Month into new job and I’m not sure it’s for me.

Do you have any Milk of Magnesia? Dries up spots a treat.
Maybe your job will be a bit better tomorrow.

Yes and because he would do everything before I could get it it, then be mad I wasn’t doing it.

Like, we came home late at night from a vacation after a day of travel. He immediately does everything possible around the house. I’m talking vacuuming, laundry, and outside things. Can’t wait until the morning for any of it.

Maireas · 13/08/2023 16:22

Entertaining in the garage? I've never come across that. Must be different to ours, although ours is an embarrassment to other garages, really. One Day We Will Clear It Out.

Put some Nytol into his tea.

@jeffgoldblum feeling similar OP. Have managed to put three loads of washing on. And hang out 2. And supervised the teens changing their bedding which had been on so long I thought it would walk to the washing machine on its own. Oh and I did the dishwasher. And exercised. I need to clean the bathroom and iron and cook a roast. I just cant be bothered. But will have to make myself.

Yes, big thing in some rural areas. Also, people that just sit in their garages like it’s a porch.

Maireas · 13/08/2023 16:27

You sound as if you've done loads, @RoseMartha ! I'm very impressed. You too, @jeffgoldblum and @AliceOlive .
Hives of industry!

Maireas · 13/08/2023 16:30

In the general slagging off of incompetent male colleagues, we were reminded of a Maths teacher who tried to tell us about the Soviet Union. We are History teachers. We teach Russian History. Together we travelled around the former Soviet Union. I lived there. I speak Russian. Still, John could explain it to us!
Oh for the confidence of a very average man.

Can't they sit in their kitchen? Or garden? Or front room?
Bewildered.

My much loved, much longed for 7 month old is crashed out on me at the moment so on that level I am in heaven.

However I am really struggling at the moment. I feel down, stuck in a rut, tired a lot. I feel like I have nothing to look forward to and life seems like one big cycle of up, get through the day, go to bed. DS isn’t a great sleeper so I’m tired too. I also have a 9 year old who is really testing boundaries at the moment. I am due back to work in November, DP suggested I can quit (also my job is an awful, awful place) to take care of DS2 because with nursery financially that is a better option. But I enjoy having my own money and I think I will go mad sitting in the house all day.

Just a lot on my mind and can’t seem to muster up any enthusiasm for anything lately.

Oh can I add to that list I am feeling like a shit parent because my mat pay isn’t stretching to many fun summer holiday days out with DS1 and also that I have just started a diet because I am 2 stone over weight since having the baby.

@Maireas When I learned to tie my shoes I went around telling everyone how to tie their shoes. To me, it was such an incredible feat that surely it couldn’t be common knowledge. My family it explained to me and I stopped. I think this is the same phenomenon. I was only about 4 though. Guess he has the self-awareness of a 4 year old.

Maireas · 13/08/2023 16:35

Firstly, @Tisfortired , it takes a year to physically recover from childbirth. Don't feel bad about weight. You grew a new human being! It's natural to feel low, it's just a combination of tiredness and hormones settling down. Don't be hard on yourself. Make sure you get a bit of time to yourself.
I still have a mum tum and I was last pregnant 28 years ago!

Right?! It’s so funny! But honestly when we moved into our house we decided to put the grill in the garage instead of the patio. Now we get chairs and sit on the driveway with a drink sometimes while grilling.

I'm under the assumption that like our houses the garages in the US are bigger too?
