Really I am done with it..where I am it has rained every day (bar literally two days) since the beginning of July plus it's been windy and cool and now the nights are getting darker earlier it just feels gloomy! And it's not even (just) August yet.
Feel so sorry for kids on the school holidays and parents trying to cope. It's just pants.

We're about half way into a three and a half week camping trip. It has rained every day except Saturday.

In 24hrs one tent ripped through the roof due to wind, a borrowed tent leaked onto our beds and we slept in the car, then DH went home to get our older smaller tent... Touch wood so far it's held!

Rain forecast for the next 7 days where we are...

RuthTopp · 02/08/2023 09:20

@Ihateboris

That's just the same that pop up in my garden , although ours are much more orange / brown in colour .

Hammering it down here. The lanes and fields are flooding. The harvest looks wrecked to my untutored eye.

But come on everyone! Never mind! Pop your wellies and waterproofs on and let's all go for another jolly country walk! What's that? Your wellies and waterproofs are still soaked through from yesterday? There's no need for negativity! Pop them on (yes, I know it's tricky to get your arms into a sodden cagoule but listen to the lovely squelchy sound you feet make in your wellies!). Come along - just the ten mile walk today and then we can have some lovely hot chocolate under a cosy blanket and feel sorry for all those other boys and girls who are on a beach in Spain feeling far too hot and probably getting sun burned, and are certainly not getting the wonderful experiences you are having looking at dripping leaves, wet squirrels and acres of lovely mud!

Thing is I think some people on here genuinely do think/talk this way!

LuckySantangelo35 · 02/08/2023 09:25

Surely no one…. Not the cosy crew, not the ‘no bad weather just bad clothes’ brigrade, not those who claim to sweat if temps are any higher than 15 degrees… surely none of you are into this weather at this point?!
It’s so SHIT!!!

Comedycook · 02/08/2023 09:26

Even during "good" summers, I find the weather is better in june than August. I wish they'd change the school holidays to reflect this. My kids have spent many times sweltering at school and then stuck indoors in school holidays.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2023 09:29

It's absolutely pissing down in Hartlepool currently! Literally digging winter clothes out because it's so bad. 14c too apparently, with a feels like of 12! 😡

SecretVictoria · 02/08/2023 09:31

Pissing down in Gtr Manchester and has been for ever. So, so sick of it 😡

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/08/2023 09:35

It actually cleared up last night about 7pm here and the dog and I managed a nice (albeit squelchy) hours’ walk with a friend and her dogs. Just as well as it’s pouring down again this morning 😡. I’m seriously considering cancelling my annual leave and going back to work!

I refuse to believe anyone who says they're enjoying this.

Enjoying a bit of rain and cooler temperatures after a spell of warmer weather is one thing. But no one is actually enjoying 13 degrees and torrential downpours for weeks when it's supposed to be summer, no matter how much they pretend they are.

MrsImFedUpOfTheWeather · 02/08/2023 10:19

It's just so depressing. I woke up like many of you to the lashing rain again. Winter dragged on forever. Spring was just a continuation of winter - cold - wet. A couple of weeks of sun and here we are. Rain. Wind. More rain and more wind. It's getting darker earlier and I've got the October blues.

I feel sorry for people who have had their holidays ruined. I feel sorry for parents trapped inside with little ones. I feel sorry for farmers, for gardeners, for those who suffer with SAD.

The thought of having to get through another winter when we've had no summer is a miserable thought.

And no - I don't fancy going for a walk in the pissing rain.

Wow that’s perseverance well done to you I really would have given up.

RuthTopp · 02/08/2023 10:26

I live in a holiday area , at this time of year used to seeing a few camp sites with couples sat outside chatting / reading or kids playing ball or running around.
This summer a few less campers , tents , all zipped up and wet saggy, no-one about. Sad.

GreenwichOrTwicks · 02/08/2023 10:43

Agree with the PP about the school hols. Now that kids aren’t needed to do the harvest hour about shifting them earlier to 15 June and going back 1 August.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 02/08/2023 10:48

Pissing down again in north yorks.

Cheesenpickleontoast · 02/08/2023 10:52

We had some sunshine this morning (SE) and I skipped my way happily to the local shop for milk. My umbrella was in my bag as I'm not stupid. Rain is forecast for later and the clouds are gathering, but that tiny bit of sunshine was better than a small scratchcard win.

BarrelOfOtters · 02/08/2023 11:09

Pissing down here. NIce evening last night....next bit of sunshine is probably next Thursday.

user1471433754 · 02/08/2023 11:10

Central belt in Scotland here. Just outside Glasgow. We've had constant rain. No let up at all in July. Temps of 16/17/18. Muggy and sticky at times. I'm menopausal so am not taking it well at all, just totally fed up with it and have had no summer hols either 😔

Notcontent · 02/08/2023 11:32

I really feel for people with young children. I can remember how hard it was to try to keep my dd entertained when it was raining constantly. I am very much a believer in “dressing for the weather” and just getting out there but there is a big difference between light rain and heavy rain and wind.

RampantIvy · 02/08/2023 11:36

Temporary sunshine in Derby just now (I'm on a train)

Whinge · 02/08/2023 12:20

I agree, and I also think the amount of shit weather isn't helping. There's a big difference between a day of rain and weeks of torrential downpours and gloomy weather.

Even the most sun loving person can overlook a day of rain. Either changing plans, or if it can't be cancelled just chuck on their waterproofs and enjoy whatever was planned despite the shit weather. The novelty of playing on the beach, a rainy walk or a soggy picnic soon wears off when it's the 3rd, 4th, 5th or even 10th day of heavy rain, low temperatures and gusty winds.

Zimunya · 02/08/2023 12:21

I totally agree. But, this is Mumsnet, and the minute the sun did come out a few weeks ago, we had a load of threads with posters saying how sick they were of being hot and uncomfortable!

MrsImFedUpOfTheWeather · 02/08/2023 13:36

Yes @Zimunya . Those are the people I am holding directly responsible for this disaster. They cursed us! 😡😂

Exactly this.
And when people say "well I prefer this to last year" or "well at least it isn't 40°"
It's not either or.... like the weather can either be
18° windy dull rainy or
30° + sunshine
...and nothing in between...?

And it wasn't even that hot.
Health conditions aside they just need to dress appropriately (ha).
The number of hate heating posters who then say they hate wearing summer clothes, then wear leggings and skinny jeans then complain about feeling hot never ceases to astound me.

LuckySantangelo35 · 02/08/2023 14:15

I know right

skinny jeans in the summer - yeah you’re gonna be hot. They are also out of fashion.
