Really I am done with it..where I am it has rained every day (bar literally two days) since the beginning of July plus it's been windy and cool and now the nights are getting darker earlier it just feels gloomy! And it's not even (just) August yet.
Feel so sorry for kids on the school holidays and parents trying to cope. It's just pants.

Me too. I usually am really into gardening but have just completely lost interest as I’ve barely been in it. Doubt much is going to ripen in the greenhouse and all my tender plants have been destroyed by pests. Have two under 5 and all the indoor activities are rammed due to school holidays and with the rain and wind combo outdoor activities are just no fun. Soaking swings and slides. Lying listening to the rain hammer on the velux. It feels almost autumnal. I’m in Scotland and the winter seemed to stretch on forever, even most of May was rubbish, until we got two glorious weeks in June and now this.

BHRK · 31/07/2023 21:45

Totally agree, it’s hard trying to entertain kids when we cant just go to the park or they can play in a paddling pool in their garden! It’s rubbish.. and our winters are so long we have a right to moan when summer is awful

TheChosenTwo · 31/07/2023 21:47

Shit isn’t it? I just got a call to go and pick up dds, they’ve been out having dinner with a group of friends and had all planned to walk back but it was completely lashing it down and a few of them called parents to go and pick them up! It was so chilly and I had to use the super wipers (does anyone else call it this?! 😂), miserable. And it’s dark.
I really love this kind of weather on an October Sunday, fire on, some snoozy film on and a roast dinner - I don’t love it in July 😤

Lifesapurpledream · 31/07/2023 21:50

@TheChosenTwo same, I had a moment of I’ll do my kids some hot chocolate and then thought no it’s July! So much for all the salads I was going to be having

reesewithoutaspoon · 31/07/2023 21:51

Yeah its shit. Feels like summer was just those 2 weeks in June.

cocksstrideintheevening · 31/07/2023 21:52

Yep it's depressing. Had the lights on most of the day it's been so dark and have really noticed the evenings getting shorter.

We had a week of good weather back in June and it's been shit since.

tracylamont13 · 31/07/2023 21:53

It's very difficult. Hubby and I are gardeners by trade so it's quite the juggling act at the minute.

YourNameGoesHere · 31/07/2023 21:56

Totally crap and I'm beyond fed up of the bloody rain. The garden looks crap and everything feels so depressing and dull.

However be prepared for several people to come along and wax lyrically about how they love the rain and tell you it could be worse because we could have wildfires and the heatwave that's "setting half the world on fire". 🙄

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/07/2023 21:58

Yeah it’s totally crap. We’re on holiday and it’s sunshine and showers, cool breeze, grey skies. Then muggy and humid. On repeat. The camp sites are half full, when they are normally full to capacity. I get very morose when it’s days upon days of miserable weather and there’s no end in sight, this is going to be it isn’t it?

thenightsky · 31/07/2023 22:00

Oh yes, its shit. I feel my winter time/lack of sunlight depression creeping up... Sad

Honeyroar · 31/07/2023 22:02

I agree. It feels like autumn already. I have an outdoor café, this should be a busy time. Obviously it isn’t! 😞. Winter was long and drawn out this year, we deserve a summer!

Ha my kids did actually have a hot chocolate the other day! They’d gone to play crazy golf and almost got blown away in high winds and then the rain came down on them 😂 they came home and I could hear them heating up milk and then the telltale sound of the squirty cream… couldn’t blame them! Put the heating on for them too!

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/07/2023 22:03

I’ve given up on summer altogether. I bought two new dresses and I was going to float around feeling cool and stylish. They haven’t been out of the wardrobe.

TeaMistress · 31/07/2023 22:07

It does feel very autumnal this evening. Getting dark earlier and has been raining on and off all day. Feels cooler as well.

FireEngineGeorge · 31/07/2023 22:08

I don't like when it's gets too hot and it's unbearable, but there's a happy medium and this isn't it! The constant rain is miserable. I can't afford to take the DC to do loads of expensive, indoor activities and the weather is making the outside ones difficult. Yes, we could go for a walk in the rain, but try getting a 12yo off his phone to do that! If it was sunny we would be having picnics and kicking a ball around, sitting on the beach or paddling in the river.

TonTonMacoute · 31/07/2023 22:09

Yes, it's utterly miserable. I'm also a keen gardener and I'm finding it impossible to motivate myself to do anything out there. I'm finding it so unpleasantly humid and sticky, there's nothing good about it at all.

Thank god we went on holiday the first two weeks of this month.

Ditto, I’m regretting those purchases now…

Have already started lowering the kids expectations for what our seaside holiday in Norfolk is going to be like next week!

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 31/07/2023 22:11

@thenightsky snap my SAD is coming in very early this year!

Changinglegs · 31/07/2023 22:18

It is so dull. I’m trying to count blessings (I prefer it to 40+ and forest fires) but it wears thin. I can also think I’m lucky I work in an office and don’t have kids to entertain for 6weeks. Good luck to all the gardeners/builders etc and parents out there

BrightLightTonight · 31/07/2023 22:18

Sorry - but I’m loving it. Working full time, it’s not too hot, the grass is growing well (have horses so this is important), don’t have to water the garden daily, can sleep at night without overheating. It’s not cold, so you can do outdoor activities. What’s not to love - especially when the alternative was like last summer when it was far too hot to move and we had fires all over the place

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 31/07/2023 22:20

I’m lucky to have had just over 2 weeks in South France, with wall to wall sunshine, but coming back into SE yesterday with torrential rain was a bump back to reality! I did a load of washing, only for it to rain almost all day today…….

Comedycook · 31/07/2023 22:22

It's hideous.

Something in between the heat of last summer and the torrential rain of this summer would be good!

I have horses too. I just mucked out in a winter coat and bobble hat, wearing my third coat of the day, which got soaked. And lots of people are unable to get hay crops in.

StillWantingADog · 31/07/2023 22:25

I’ve paid 1k for a beach Airbnb in Northumberland starting on Thursday and the forecast is awful. I’m really cross about it. Don’t even want to go! We have plenty of “house jobs” that we could happily get on with in the rain in our two weeks off but feel I need to make the effort with the kids. But wtf are we going to do.

Excitingnewusername · 31/07/2023 22:28

I'm not a summer fan, but even I am at the end of my tether with this current spell. It has hammered it down all day today, again. It's like autumn but warm and humid, so putting on a necessary waterproof turns you into a boil in the bag human.
