Really I am done with it..where I am it has rained every day (bar literally two days) since the beginning of July plus it's been windy and cool and now the nights are getting darker earlier it just feels gloomy! And it's not even (just) August yet.
Feel so sorry for kids on the school holidays and parents trying to cope. It's just pants.

I just want to be able to dry some washing now. I have a toddler and a baby both in cloth nappies and they just don't dry. At least in winter we would have the heating on.

We have a staycation arranged for next week and trying to think of nice days out in wet weather with the 2 of them is so hard. It either costs a small fortune or will be rammed with school kids.

Vetoncall · 01/08/2023 02:55

It rained here at some stage every day in July (North Coast NI). Some days were nothing but endless, relentless rain and it's just been so grey, chilly and miserable. It's absolutely grim and no sign of it changing any time soon.

Donesosavemyusernamesettings · 01/08/2023 03:17

Hate it.

The endless grey and constant weird warm and yet rainy weather. Officially autumn next month and still no prolonged periods of sun forecast.

I just find it so oppressive.

givememoremoremore · 01/08/2023 03:56

Totally fed up of it. I've had 18 days off work and all it's done is bloody rain!!
The kids have lots of new toys to go up outside and I was hoping to recover from my nights led out deck chair when I go back to work but... apparently not!!
Are we due to get ANY summer before school goes back?!! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

SpidersAreShitheads · 01/08/2023 04:00

I've got two autistic DC who can't cope with travelling so there's been no escape from the UK for 13 years for me. Worst thing is that I love a bit of sunshine!

It's not the heat - which I don't mind either way - it's the sight of blue skies, and the warm evenings when you can sit with your back door open, or sit and read a book outside in the balmy summer weather. It's all those little things that make my heart happy.

The summer here is usually off and on, and it's a case of enjoying warm periods when they arrive. But very rarely is a summer this bad almost from start to finish, it's just been grey skies and rain for the whole of July. We had a brief nice spell in June but it was shit in April and May. August is normally grey and muggy, it's not usually our best month so I'm guessing that it's for this year for us? Practically a non-existent summer.

Like others, I desperately need to recharge my battery during the summer months because of SAD. The evenings are already getting darker. It's utterly fucking miserable not having had a proper summer this year. I love living in the UK but honestly this makes me want to fuck off and live abroad (not that I could because of the DC, but that's not the point 😅).

a1234567 · 01/08/2023 04:07

I'm actually getting fed up of it too, but then I think I need to be careful what I wish for because I really couldn't stand the heat last year.... it would be nice to have some sunny days.

I'm depressed that it's getting so much darker in the evenings and I'm struggling to get my washing dried which is very annoying.

I'm going on holiday to Shetland soon and I'm very much hoping for the best but am off course being realistic! 😂

MustBeGinOclock · 01/08/2023 04:18

Its depressing. Filled a hot water bottle 2ngt as felt chilly here

LordSalem · 01/08/2023 04:21

How am I supposed to mow my fucking lawns when it's either hammering down rain or overcast just for a few hours here and there but the (now very overgrown) grass is completely sodden?! I’m no gardener but it's almost waist height and i keep having to wait. I got right on top of it in June. TF am I supposed to do now?!

Annaishere · 01/08/2023 04:23

I don’t mind it. the temperature is good

Marchitectmummy · 01/08/2023 04:40

I don't mind it, its still mild. Yes it's grey but I don't need to worry about my daughter burning. Doing anything outside and judt fling on weather appropriate clothing.

This is the weather I remember from childhood summers, 30 or 35 years ago.
Change your attitude and embrace it all will be fine.

Ohyousillydivvy · 01/08/2023 04:43

It's going to rain the whole time I'm in Wales next week isn't it. I've decided to buy a canoe to get around as my mode of transport.

YourNameGoesHere · 31/07/2023 21:56

Totally crap and I'm beyond fed up of the bloody rain. The garden looks crap and everything feels so depressing and dull.

However be prepared for several people to come along and wax lyrically about how they love the rain and tell you it could be worse because we could have wildfires and the heatwave that's "setting half the world on fire". 🙄

DH and I were talking about this last night, and had to laugh at ourselves, imagining southern Europeans saying "we are literally ON FIRE. You are getting a bit damp, stop moaning!!"

Buuuuut...I really do hate it. I find winter so long and depressing anyway, and live for summer, so this is utterly shite. Off to Majorca in ten days time, so at least I'll get some sun this year.

MavisChunch29 · 01/08/2023 06:14

I am loving the weather this summer. Rain, sun, rain, sun, about 20-22 degrees in the day, cool enough to sleep, no need to water the garden, can go running, walking the dog without having to do it horribly early. Getting loads done at work. Several weeks of warmer weather in May/June, lots of time outdoors, no heating on since May.

Heatwaves and overly long spells of dry weather like last year can fuck off.

@UserRose and anyone else on here that uses a SAD lamp - is there any particular one you recommend?

I think I'm gonna have to get one for myself soon.

Hi there I use this brand for the last six years - this is a nicer model than mine as they’ve streamlined it

PurelyOrnamental · 01/08/2023 06:31

We've just come back from 4 nights in Spain, wall to wall blue sky's and blue sea , the average daily temperature was 31 degrees and it was bliss!
If we got too hot we just had a dip in the sea or the pool, most indoor places had air con so it was the best of both worlds.
Arrived back in the UK and it is exactly as we left it, grey, wet and thoroughly depressing.
Even walking the dogs is a miserable experience, twice a day they are soaked through and I swear the house must smell like a kennels!!

WhatNoRaisins · 01/08/2023 06:40

It's tricky with small kids, I just want to have some picnics and not spend a fortune paying for indoor activities or spend hours with them on screens. Mine are 2 and 5 I'm running out of indoor ideas for stuff to do at home and they're like dogs without enough exercise.

Karmatime · 01/08/2023 06:50

The most depressing thing is that on the BBC weather app it always shows the week after next as sunny and dry and then it changes to rain a few days before and the elusive nice weather gets pushed further into the future!

ShiteRider · 01/08/2023 06:52

Absolutely shite. I had the electric blanket on yesterday.

Franticbutterfly · 01/08/2023 06:56

Absolutely sick of it. I use summer sunshine to charge my batteries for the year ahead (particularly relevant this year as I have a tough year ahead from September) and I'm worried that it'll seem like a harder slog now. I pray it's sunny when I go abroad at the end of the month.

WhatNoRaisins · 01/08/2023 06:58

Personally I prefer this sort of temperature, I'd be happy to wear a jumper for a picnic or BBQ, it's the endless bloody rain. I've still not worked out what "good clothing" would make a picnic in the pouring rain fun.

Weather appropriate clothing is all well and good in fine rain and drizzle but being out in torrential rain is an endurance test and just not fun at all. As a glasses wearer I find it a real PITA.

Vettrianofan · 01/08/2023 06:59

Don the wellies and get out there! Don't let the weather get you down. Just embrace it. I need to get out walking for mental health reasons and I have several children so I need to get out. We do woodland walks. It's very liberating being the only daftie out walking in this type of weather 😂

Agree. I don't mind it being cloudy maybe with a peak of the sun. As long as it's about 17/18 ish and dry!

RampantIvy · 01/08/2023 07:05

I am loving the weather this summer. Rain, sun, rain, sun, about 20-22 degrees in the day

Good for you. We aren't getting those temperatures or the sun where most of us on this thread live. We don't all live in the South East. We are getting 16/17 degrees or lower which is just not warm enough to not wear a jumper.

@Vettrianofan read the post before yours. It is not fun being out in torrential rain. How do you not understand that?
