Tacky wedding anniversary celebrations? I ordered a floral crown ...too much ?

It's mine and my husband's first anniversary on Thursday.
We are going to the pubs in town with his son and girlfriend and a few of their friends.
We are both 39 and his son is 20 so hopefully we don't feel too ancient.
I've ordered a floral crown to wear and a sash which says "1st wedding anniversary-congratulations"
I've ordered some party poppers too for the pub celebration.
I'm not sure if it's too much or tacky?
I didn't think it was but when I told a friend she laughed.
I've changed my profile pic on Facebook to us on wedding day and he has just done the same (think I followed my lead ) ha ha
Will people think it's ott?

It sounds super cringey. At least you'll give the young uns a good giggle.

Drews · 31/07/2023 09:49

Do what you want you're a rockstar

skgnome · 31/07/2023 09:49

Personally I think it’s too much, but also fun, as long as everyone involved is up for it, meh, who cares life is short enjoy it.

Oh the sash is only for me and the crown
I don't think anybody else would wear them ha ha

Many pubs dont allow poppers or i gave seen them hand the hoover to those who have just popped

you cant pop outside as they can kill birds

toomuchlaundry · 31/07/2023 09:51

I assume the going out with the son and his friends is not linked to your wedding anniversary

User5653218 · 31/07/2023 09:52

I want to say its way ott. Its a first anniversary, it's not a massive achievement.

But equally I love your enthusiasm and if you can pull it off then go for it!

Creepybookworm · 31/07/2023 09:52

Massively cringe.

Superfood · 31/07/2023 09:52

I'm not sure if it's too much or tacky?

Uh huh.

sowhatimstillarockstar · 31/07/2023 09:52

Yeah we are going out with them to celebrate

You're up early!

Theduchy · 31/07/2023 09:53

Sorry but I think that's mega cringey. Has the first year of marriage been that bad you have to congratulate yourselves for getting through it? That's what the message on the sash sounds like to me. It's very "look at me". You know it's your anniversary, your husband knows it's your anniversary. The rest of the pub doesn't need to know.

Superfood · 31/07/2023 09:54

Clymene · 31/07/2023 09:53

You're up early!

That's what I thought too! Weather is shit though tbf, park wouldn't be much fun.

MintyCedric · 31/07/2023 09:55

I’d think it was batshit crazy and attention seeking tbh, but you do you.

Are you actually planning to wear this while out with your 20yo stepson?!

LubaLuca · 31/07/2023 09:55

It is definitely unusual, to go for a hen do 'look at me' vibe for an anniversary celebration. An anniversary pub crawl with others is slightly unusual, the sash etc is idiosyncratic.

Chocolatepumpkin · 31/07/2023 09:57

I thought first anniversary was paper? 😆

Peony654 · 31/07/2023 09:57

I wouldn't personally but if it makes you happy! Others will think it's your hen party :)

BrutusMcDogface · 31/07/2023 10:00

Not the sash. Crown, ok. Also no to the party poppers!

congratulations!

icelollycraving · 31/07/2023 10:00

A floral crown and a sash for a 1st anniversary is a new one on me! If you want to do it, go for it. I’d be worried about embarrassing his son though.
Changing your profile pic for an anniversary is something I do every year, reminds me of a wonderful day.

sowhatimstillarockstar · 31/07/2023 10:01

Sorry I didn't mean party poppers I meant the party horn

Changing your Facebook picture is fine. Going out for a small celebration is fine. Sashes and crowns? sorry OP that’s tacky.

DH and I celebrated our first anniversary by going to a nicer restaurant than we could usually afford. We had a party with friends for our 25th (no sashes, crowns or poppers). Next “big” one will be 35th and we will probably go out for a meal.

Aposterhasnoname · 31/07/2023 10:02

Changing the profile picture, fine. The rest? OMG cringe. Especially the crown/sash

If you like it and it makes you happy then do it. It might not be everyone's cup to tea but why give a flying fck what anyone else thinks?! Life is wayyyy to short for that.

Rock that sash and flower crown to your hearts content.
