It's not just rain it's so windy every day

Why are the winds so high every day in July and into August?

September, once the schools resume. Two years ago it started on the first day of term in the south of England!

Summersunshineplease · 30/07/2023 10:08

I agree, it will be beginning of September

Singleandproud · 30/07/2023 10:13

The winds will be to do with the very hot weather in mainland Europe, hotter air retains more water so higher humidity, more clouds, and more rain for other regions, more wind as convection is faster etc.

June was really warm and sunny .....I'm wondering if that was it?

Beezknees · 30/07/2023 10:19

June was beautiful.

BelindaBears · 30/07/2023 10:22

Apart from virtually the entire of June, you mean? I’ve got through loads of suncream already this year.

MinnieTruck · 30/07/2023 10:23

June was okay and that’s literally it. Ridiculous tbh

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 30/07/2023 10:23

Forecast to mid August looks rubbish

Rainbowshit · 30/07/2023 10:23

June was glorious. I was lucky enough to be off work for the whole of it. Minute the Scottish school holiday started the weather turned. Thankfully we'd timed out Spain holiday well for the day after the schools stopped

Rainbowshit · 30/07/2023 10:24

And actually since we've been back I've been out in my bikini in the garden maybe every second day as the temp has been around 20.

Norugratsatall · 30/07/2023 10:26

Yep. It's actually glorious here today but so windy you can't sit out. The wind is cold too.

Whinge · 30/07/2023 10:29

I agree. The temperatures where I am are finally starting to hit the high teens and low 20s, but it's blowing a gale and raining heavily most days. Is it so much to ask that we get a few dry slightly warm days? 😔

Ah yes . One whole month out of 12 😭😭

Where in Scotland are you?? Unless youre out in your bikini in the pouring rain. There hasn't been one dry day here since the beginning of the month!

morelippy · 30/07/2023 10:32

So much for summers getting hotter 🙄

frozendaisy · 30/07/2023 10:35

Similar weather forecast here.

Think we have got used to long unbroken days of warm dry still days in summer holidays.

But no it's not looking good for the summer holidays. Which is what I think you mean OP.

Yes June was lovely, but kids are at school then, many doing exams. It's fine if you can not work and enjoy weather when ever it appears. But for the kids off school, August is the month you want dry, still for days out.

I keep hoping to see a week forecast with just no downpours ......

June was beautiful.

Yes. People seem to have forgotten this!

I'm in Ireland, Wed a fab June & early July was fine. Then the rain started! However, I went to West Cork (live in Dublin) & had an almost-entirely glorious 2 weeks, only 1 or 2 days of rain.

So I'm a bit smug. Back in Dublin now & it's gloomy, uninspiring & quite chilly.

I assume I'll be giving out properly by next week!

Overall though, the really hot summers of previous years I find horrible, I quite like the cooler temps and even some rain!

Yeah, exactly. The kids were wearing it every day at school for pretty much the last two months of term!

Last summer wasn't a traditional 'norm' (though may well be soon 😬). Low 20s are average for summer usually. And tbh I'd rather sunshine and showers than a heatwave! At least you can still go out and do stuff as opposed to sit inside all day in front of a fan!

(And my BMI is on the low side of normal for anyone assuming that all heatwave haters only hate the heat because they're overweight! 😅)

You are right about June
But that's literally been the only month that hasn't been shit .
May was dry but 30-40mph winds throughout most of it

Never felt like we had a spring

OP posts:
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/07/2023 10:38

May was freezing. It’s grey and windy round me with a feels like temperature of 13.

High summer

Whinge · 30/07/2023 10:39

I quite like the cooler temps and even some rain!

I also like cooler temps and a bit of rain. What i don't like is fierce winds and heavy downpours, which is what we seem to have had for the last 3 - 4 weeks.

Summersunshineplease · 30/07/2023 10:39

Raining again now
40mph winds to 😭

A bit of settled dry 20-22c weather would be nice
