It's not just rain it's so windy every day

Why are the winds so high every day in July and into August?

@Plump82 I'm in Glasgow.

I finished work at 12 on Friday and spent the afternoon sunbathing in the garden. It was glorious. I actually sat out until 9pm.

I even managed a short amount of time in my bikini in the garden yesterday and then it rained on and off.

I've not left my house since Thursday as it's non stop torrential rain here in North Lan!

Baneofmyexistence · 30/07/2023 11:18

It’s been terrible here in Greater Manchester. We had good weather for a few weeks end of May and into June, by end of June it was terrible though and has been since. It’s not just showers either, it’s torrential rain all day. And forecast to continue till at least mid August. I am glad it’s not 40C again but why does it have to that or pours of rain? Somewhere in the middle would be nice!

FleurFarady · 30/07/2023 11:21

I work in a school kitchen ( hot & steamy in winter let alone bloody summer) so spent all june sweating my tits off in the heat 🥵... now I'm off work and it's shit! No doubt when school & work resumes in September it'll go scorchio again😱
And I'm in the SW... we're in the middle of a drought apparently and have been under a hosepipe ban for yonks!

54isanopendoor · 30/07/2023 11:21

In Scotland.
June was nice.
1st day Summer Hols (1st July) the rain started. It's not really stopped...
It will improve again mid August when School resumes.

newfloorplease · 30/07/2023 11:24

I'm in Dublin early and mid June were good.
Late June and July awful- wet and windy.
April and May weather was nothing like the fabulous weather we had in Covid 2020.

I'm fed up.
Anyone notice there are lots of butterflies about ?

GettingStuffed · 30/07/2023 11:32

Longer term weather forecasts all say a warmer and drier second half of August, just when I'm seeing my dad so lots of outdoor fun.

rc22 · 30/07/2023 11:32

It was beautifully warm and sunny here yesterday (Yorkshire) so I ventured into the garden with my book and a glass of prosecco. Anyway between battling with the fluttering pages of the book and hanging onto the glass so it didn't blow over in the wind I gave up and went indoors!!

Why do people keep talking about June? Summer isn’t supposed to be for one month? Yes June was lovely but July and august are usually lovely as well with the odd bit of rain here and there, this year it been cold, rainy and windy almost everyday of July! It’s been very depressing :(

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 30/07/2023 11:44

I’m south wales and we had around 5 weeks of warm weather and now it’s wind/rain.

I don’t actually mind - we’re homebodies here and the kids would rather read a book than go to the park. We do go out once a day for a walk by the river or through the woods - wellies a must!

calmcoco · 30/07/2023 11:46

We have fucked the climate, so now we get erratic weather.

No point crying over what's already done, although it is pretty heartbreaking, we just have to try to limit future damage.

madeinmanc · 30/07/2023 11:49

A lot of people, most even, were working full-time in June, it's not always possible to drop everything just because the sun's shining.

Yesterday we had the sun here again and everyone was outside, happy and smiling. The difference is night and day.

morelippy · 30/07/2023 10:32

So much for summers getting hotter 🙄

Have you not seen what's happening in Europe?

sadaboutmycat · 30/07/2023 11:58

It's almost as if the climate is changing 🤷‍♀️!

I first got married in Sept 1985. It was gloriously hot.

The seasons have been shifting for decades now. We just haven't adapted to it.

I think they should annualised the 13 weeks school holidays more to follow Cv patterns of better weather over the last 4 decades. That would also make family holidays easier.

BarelyLiterate · 30/07/2023 11:59

I’m in Leicestershire, and summer here has been 2 weeks of good weather in June. May & early June were grey, overcast & ridiculously cold, more like March. July has been a washout. All the fields around here are emerald green. Paths & gateways are as muddy as you would expect in October. The reservoirs are literally overflowing.
This morning I looked at the forecast for August, and it’s worse than July. And the media is full of hysterical scaremongering about climate change because it’s been hot in the Med. It’s just incredibly depressing.

morelippy · 30/07/2023 11:59

Of course. But we're discussing our summer. And ours is clearly not

Freshair1 · 30/07/2023 12:04

Weather is definitely changing. We need to accept it and get on with it.

Feckedupbundle · 30/07/2023 12:19

I'm so fed up of it. I'd love some proper hot weather, but now I'd settle for anything as long as it stops raining. It has rained every day here in Leicestershire since the end of June.
We are farmers and the fields were sodden from February until the beginning of June, worse than winter. We can't get our hay in to feed the livestock over winter, because we haven't had any dry days to get it mowed. It's currently rotting in the field. Every farmer I've spoken to say the same, and that goes for wheat, oats, rape too.
We haven't weaned our lambs yet, because the field we normally wean them in,is still full of hay that we are hoping to salvage if it ever dries up.The ewes are getting very fed up with huge lambs still trying to feed from them and will lose condition. This means than next year's lambs will be smaller, weaker and fewer and we'll possibly lose more ewes.
I thought that 2012 was bad,but this is shaping up to be far worse.

Anotherdayanothernamechanged · 30/07/2023 12:22

I think I'm an oddity in that I'm really enjoying this summer. I've hated the heat of the last few years, at least we can function and enjoy our time off in this weather.

Whinge · 30/07/2023 12:25

@Feckedupbundle that sounds so frustrating. Sad

DrCoconut · 30/07/2023 12:26

June was not that spectacular here. Warm ish for a couple of weeks but my shorts and sun cream are still unused. The rest of the year the weather has been awful. Packing jeans and hoodies for our summer holiday now 😫

AnoyDad2023 · 30/07/2023 12:28

The planet is on fire and you're moaning about it being a bit windy and wet in the UK... where it is normally windy and wet? Canada. Califona. Europe. Asia. All on fire. The planet is too hot and you're moaning?; be thankful your house hasn't burned down due to wildfires.

It's really not

And the first half of July... Sports Day at school was horrendously hot.

Our definition of ‘horrendously hot’ differs greatly. Horrendous for me is from mid 30’s.

It’s depressing I hate this weather, grey, windy just miserable. For me 25-30 is bliss.
