My late Dad used to sing this song to myself and my sister when we were young kids. A kind of lullaby.

It was then played in the Royle Family episode when Nana died.

And now I've just played it sung by Sinead, and of course am in floods of tears for all bereaved including myself.

So sad. She apparently said she and her son were the same soul in different bodies, let’s hope those two souls are together, at peace now.

I remember the first time I saw her on TOTPs singing Mandinka, shaved head, doc boots playing a guitar she completely blew 13 year old me away. And she was Irish (like me) and she was female, but not girlie(like me 😊) I fell completely in love with her. Opionated and not afraid to say what she thought. I loved her speaking voice just as much as her unique singing voice. Then years later a friend of mine became a backing singer for her and I met her. She was so shy and those eyes were even more amazing in real life. I was so in awe I couldn't speak. She was just beautiful. I listen to her version of silent night every Christmas it always makes me cry.

Rest in peace darling Sinead. Noting compares to you ❤️

Really lovely words.

May she be reunited with her boy.

inna lillahi wa inallahi raji’oon

Oh no shocking news.

SchoolShenanigans · 26/07/2023 19:31

I hope she's found peace.

I also hope her other three children are ok. They've lost a brother and their mum within 2 years. And if I'm honest, her last tweet was lovely about her son but I wouldn't feel great as another child when she wrote 'hes the only person who ever loved me unconditionally'. I mean, maybe that's true but it can't feel nice to hear that after your mum's ended her life. It may make them feel guilt. I hope they have enough support and love around them.

ErniesGhostlyGoldTops · 26/07/2023 19:32

Loved her. Just absolutely loved her.

That was her?! I didn't realise. I thought I even looked it up.

I didn't realise this either, I said to my DH how much better this season's song was, seems obvious now.

She was one of my heroines. Voice of an angel. God rest her.

She had the voice. What an absolute tragedy

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/07/2023 19:35

I don't think it's fair to speculate about the cause of death. To me it seems fairly obvious but speculation is never nice.

CNDflag · 26/07/2023 19:35

She never recovered after her son's suicide.

Her Twitter feed was agonising and raw..she threatened suicide herself and was hospitalised.

Obviously no one knows what happened, but I hope she is at peace now.

LlynTegid · 26/07/2023 19:36

May she rest in peace, died far too young.

About 25 years ago went to one of her gigs, her troubled soul even then expressed in her music.

CNDflag · 26/07/2023 19:36

A true feminist ✌

Jellykat · 26/07/2023 19:37

That's so so sad, such a tormented soul.. I really hope she rests in peace now x

Archeron · 26/07/2023 19:37

Such a shame. She was incredibly beautiful when she was young. Not just pretty, but literally “can’t tear your eyes away” beautiful. The video for Nothing Compares was mostly just one long shot of her face and it was amazing. The director said afterwards that he also included a long distance shot of her walking around, but he regretted it and wished he had stayed with her face for the entire video, because it was so powerful.

LaffTaff · 26/07/2023 19:39

Dreadful loss.

Her version of Silent Night is beautiful.

The Wolf is Getting Married is also an amazing, heartfelt song - such a hopeful song. I remember seeing her sing it on Graham Norton, and really hoping that she was starting to get a break from that horrible illness.

Bless her. RIP.

DinosaurQuilt · 26/07/2023 19:39

I think there is a new documentary about her now which co era the period from 1987 to 1993, culminating in the aftermath of her SNL appearance. I’m sure the producer/director was on the Graham Norton Virgin radio show on Sunday. Will try and find a link

themessygarden · 26/07/2023 19:42

RIP Sinead, she was an amazing talent, but had such a hard life.

One of my memorable songs from her is one she did with Shane McGowan, it was genius. Her amazing angelic voice vs his rough guttural voice. Can't remember the name of the song now.

powershowerforanhour · 26/07/2023 19:42

What a woman and what a voice.
She had the courage of her convictions- from a very young age and throughout life.
If you haven't seen her duet live onstage with Imelda May- and read the story behind it- do.

Dontjudgeme101 · 26/07/2023 19:42

Really sad news about Sinead. Rest in peace.💐💐❤️❤️

Maggiesgirl · 26/07/2023 19:43

Sinead sang the theme Skye Boat Song on the latest series of Outlander.

Such a troubled soul, with such a beautiful voice.

Rest in peace beautiful lady.

HeadNorth · 26/07/2023 19:43

I am old enough to remember her first appearance on TOTP singing Mandinka. She stood out a mile in the neon bright oversized 80s. A true original who took her own path and there aren’t many of them. She was obviously a troubled soul but a great talent with great integrity. Rest in Power.
