Very sad news. RIP.

This always gave me goosebumps. Can't even listen to it now

3luckystars · 26/07/2023 20:01

This is such awful news.

‘3 babies’ is one of my favourite ever songs. She always spoke her mind even if she had no support.
To me, she was a very strong person.

may she rest in peace

JaneJeffer · 26/07/2023 20:03

Rest in peace Sinéad

I hope she's found peace.

I also hope her other three children are ok. They've lost a brother and their mum within 2 years. And if I'm honest, her last tweet was lovely about her son but I wouldn't feel great as another child when she wrote 'hes the only person who ever loved me unconditionally'. I mean, maybe that's true but it can't feel nice to hear that after your mum's ended her life. It may make them feel guilt. I hope they have enough support and love around them.

I know, her other children have been strong/had to be strong for a long time. In a work capacity i met her eldest son with her youngest son. So much on her other three children's shoulders.

I changed school in 1989 and walked up the road to the school listening to mandinka and it made me feel strong.

Coladh Sámh Sinead.

Black boys on mopeds. Still one of my favourites. RIP Sinead.

Yes, love that song.

And she was one of those artists who'd cover a song and fill it with emotion and make it her own. Like her cover of Abba's Chiquitita. Her version of Silent Night is magical.

MrsSweatyBetty · 26/07/2023 20:06

Rest in Peace Sinead, a truly brave feminist. My heart goes out to her children & family.

LaMaG · 26/07/2023 20:08

I am genuinely upset. I know it sounds corny but I always felt a connection to her.

She had the balls to openly criticise Catholicism in ireland before anyone else, I remember being shocked at her, my family said she was a disgrace. Only a few years later she was vindicated. She stood up to the music producers who set out to take advantage of young artists. So brave. She endured the most horrific childhood abuse too, really disturbing stuff and yet had the biggest heart. That's before you even mention her amazing talent.

fioritura · 26/07/2023 20:08

This is so sad, I loved Sinead. Beautiful but troubled soul.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. I hope you find peace now.

Taytocrisps · 26/07/2023 20:08

Very sad news. I don't think she ever got over the death of her mother and her life was blighted by mental health issues. But she was so talented. I hope Sinéad is at peace now and free from the inner demons that plagued her. Condolences to her family and friends and to all who knew and loved her. I've always loved this version of 'Belfast Child'

Simple Minds & Sinéad O'Connor - Belfast Child (live)

That song from ‘in the name of the father’ was amazing also.

Haunted.

Gorgeous song.

Thank you for that, RitzyMcFitzy, I haven't heard it for years and years and don't think I ever saw the video, she was so utterly beautiful and what an incredible voice. It has brought me to tears.

Human nature???

Such sad news. I don't normally post on threads like this but I hope Sinead has found the peace that has always eluded her x

Probably the same as your need to post something rude.

ConstitutionHill · 26/07/2023 20:15

Gutted! Divine voice. She spoke the truth decades early about systematic abuse in the Catholic Church and no one wanted to listen, lost her career over it xx

Gazelda · 26/07/2023 20:01

I've been trying to think about why her death has affected me so much more than the deaths of other celebrities I admired.

I think it's because with others (Bowie, George Michael, Amy etc) I've been sad at the loss of an immense talent. But with Sinead, it's sadness at the thought of the traumatic life she's had and that it's now ended before she could (possibly) find happiness. It feels more personal and relatable.

RIP Sinead. Find peace with your boy.

Same. I'm feeling very sad about it. I think it's just following her life and seeing the hopeful moments and the devastating moments and knowing all her torture was out for all to see. And hoping it would come good in the end, but it didn't. Playing her music on John Creedon now and it's worth a listen along.

Willmafrockfit · 26/07/2023 20:15

what a tragedy

SoupDragon · 26/07/2023 20:15

It's sad. I hope she's at peace now.

Keykaty · 26/07/2023 20:16

"Ni bheidh a leithead ann aris"

Irish language for - The likes of her will not be here again. The phrase is often used in Ireland on the passing of folk.

Not the place for your ranting

I don't think you can call two short sentences a 'rant'! It's an observation! Here's one for you too... 🙄

And yes, very sad news, rest in peace Sinead. She was troubled for many years with her mental health battles so this is sadly not a huge shock.

PerfectYear321 · 26/07/2023 20:19

I feel sad. She was treated really badly. And losing a child is something no-one should have to bear
