That tweet to piers morgan is so funny. She was such a character. I think she got on well with him though.

I think Shuhada would be upset that the name being used in the news of her death is Sinead O’Connor. I understand that she was famous and known well by that name, but she strongly disliked it as she “wanted to be free of patriarchal slave names. Free of the parental curses.”

Upon conversion she stated “This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant."

She chose the name Shuhada Sadaqat meaning “witness to truth”.

As a hijabi she would be distraught that all the headline photos are of her not wearing a headscarf. This is not how she chose to present to the world. It also reeks of ageism - why are all the photos of her when she was very young? She is still very recognisable in recent photos, she was very striking mA.

Shuhada was such a strong Muslim woman who was dedicated to creating a better world and it’s like her identity is being erased and dismissed, which is very disrespectful.

May Allah honour and elevate her to the highest ranks of Jannah 🤍

People know her socially as sinead O’Connor so that’ll be what they call her. If you think about it islamically, she will be called Shuhada O’Connor by God himself as the only name you can change is your first name, Muslims can’t change surnames due to family lineage and they can only change it if they know their family lineage name needs correcting, the same thing with Mohammed Ali too he will be refereed to by God by his actual surname.

Fair fucks to her, absolutely.

That was a really good documentary.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 30/07/2023 08:39

I stumbled across that documentary last night. My goodness I was completely transfixed. What an incredible, completely and utterly unique woman she was.

LunaNorth · 30/07/2023 09:17

I was gobsmacked by the sheer vitriol she faced. Camille Paglia should hang her head in shame.

Nomoreheroics · 30/07/2023 09:18

I wish I’d seen it. I’ve always thought she was an amazing woman.

3luckystars · 30/07/2023 09:18

I’m watching the documentary now.
