RIP Sinead, she was an amazing talent, but had such a hard life.

One of my memorable songs from her is one she did with Shane McGowan, it was genius. Her amazing angelic voice vs his rough guttural voice. Can't remember the name of the song now.

Was it this? It is one of my favouite songs.

Yes, ask MNHQ to delete. It is a terrible thing to say without any sort of proof.

motleymop · 26/07/2023 21:59

OK. Apologies.

Thank you for that, RitzyMcFitzy, I haven't heard it for years and years and don't think I ever saw the video, she was so utterly beautiful and what an incredible voice. It has brought me to tears.

I had a copy of this on a cassette single (they were a short-lived thing) and played it endlessly, that line "you were so cool you could have put out Vietnam" always stuck in my head. I have shed some tears tonight, she was so brave, so talented and had experienced significant trauma in her life

Dappy55 · 26/07/2023 22:01

My previous post disappeared. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead, thank you for the music which saw me through some important times in my life.

Spidey66 · 26/07/2023 22:01

No! Not from the internet. Doesn't matter. Shouldn't have said it!

But you did say it, so the least you can do is cite your source.
I hate this kind if carry on, a woman has just died and people are only rushing in to criticise them, accuse them, and speculate as to their cause of death. Horrible.

Lesina · 26/07/2023 22:03

She was remarkably brave. An Irish woman who took on the Catholic Church. She was owed an apology. I hope she is now at peace.

tobeornottobe1 · 26/07/2023 22:03

Rest in eternal peace 💔

She was wonderful, brave, and certainly very inspirational to me as a teenager

Liamgallaghersparka · 26/07/2023 22:05

A troubled soul, I hope she's at peace now.

Pallisers · 26/07/2023 22:09

Such a pure beautiful voice. But still you could imagine her as your friend with the beautiful voice singing Scarlet Ribbons or Danny Boy in your living room at a sing song after a party.

Her voice had (as someone said of Dwight Yoakam) an "unbought" quality.

RIP.

littlbrowndog · 26/07/2023 22:20

Sinead you were so brave 🥰

I love the early track 'Fire on Babylon' - was just looking it up on Youtube, and one of the comments tells this story - not by me (I just love it):
I was never a huge Sinead fan in her heyday - until she absolutely changed my mind in a moment at an outdoor music festival. I was fortunate to see her live in Vancouver in 1995 before she left the 95 Lollapalooza Tour early. I will never forget when she came on - some really terrible punk band had played and other than a 50 or so punk heads moshing out - the main stage audience had cleared out to walk around, check out side stages etc - then Sinead comes on - almost to no fanfare or applause - all the punk kids took one look at her and just left stage front area - and she started in quietly with Fire in Babylon - then when she belted out the chorus of "FIRE......." - it brought about 15 thousand people to a dead stop as everyone looked at the stage. I have never before or since heard a voice like that - it was just incredible listening to her sing with such... beautiful abandon. People immediately rushed back to the main stage and everyone ( and I mean everyone -even the punk kids and head bangers that were just there to rage out and mosh) were just transfixed by her voice. One of the most beautiful sounds I have heard in these 48 years on this planet. When she finished the entire place erupted in cheers for her. One of my favorite concert memories.

RIP to her

but the fact that some lives are mourned more than others makes me really sad.

This is a mean comment

She was vilified by the press in her life. I find it sad she won't see this outpouring of love for her because she certainly didn't get it in life. And she had a lot of tragedy in her life

Heroic stance from Sinéad.

I read that she to had suffered abuse at just a tender age like so many have.

I really hope she is at peace with her son now.

Nomoreheroics · 26/07/2023 22:50

I feel really really sad about this. What a beautiful talented soulful woman. Such tragedy and hardship in her life. Rest in Peace.

Fire on Babylon is my favourite too. Played it to my kids earlier when I heard the horrible news. Chilling and brilliant.
