RIP Sinead x

My mum loved Sinead. When dad fucked off cause he was shagging mum's best friend (classy!) mum apparently sent him the single of Nothing Compares 2 U with a note saying "if you don't listen to this side listen to the other one" The other side of the vinyl was a song called "Go Jump In A River" 😁

Poor, beautiful Sinead. She had an ethereal beauty and the most incredible voice. I'm really sad to hear that she's died so young 💔

FunnysInLaJardin · 26/07/2023 23:09

I can imagine that if you lose your 17 year old child you might find that intolerable.

So very sad

Spinewars23 · 26/07/2023 23:10

Used to listen to Nothing Compares to you a lot when growing up in early 90.’s before leaving Plymouth. Good rest her soul. can’t believe she’s gone.,

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 26/07/2023 23:13

What an icon. She spoke truth to power and was punished for it.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 26/07/2023 23:14

She was vilified by the press in her life

Yes, I was glad to see the BBC reporting earlier that (referencing the ripping up of the Pope’s picture)
‘she was vilified even though she was the one who was telling the truth’.

I hope she rests in peace.

Windowcleaning · 26/07/2023 23:18

Heart-breaking. Sinead was so brilliant and so brave. She took on the Catholic church and has been proved right over and over again.

The saddest news for her family and friends.

Tryingmuchharder · 26/07/2023 23:27

Very sad. She had a lifelong struggle with mental health problems.

I love the early track 'Fire on Babylon' - was just looking it up on Youtube, and one of the comments tells this story - not by me (I just love it):
I was never a huge Sinead fan in her heyday - until she absolutely changed my mind in a moment at an outdoor music festival. I was fortunate to see her live in Vancouver in 1995 before she left the 95 Lollapalooza Tour early. I will never forget when she came on - some really terrible punk band had played and other than a 50 or so punk heads moshing out - the main stage audience had cleared out to walk around, check out side stages etc - then Sinead comes on - almost to no fanfare or applause - all the punk kids took one look at her and just left stage front area - and she started in quietly with Fire in Babylon - then when she belted out the chorus of "FIRE......." - it brought about 15 thousand people to a dead stop as everyone looked at the stage. I have never before or since heard a voice like that - it was just incredible listening to her sing with such... beautiful abandon. People immediately rushed back to the main stage and everyone ( and I mean everyone -even the punk kids and head bangers that were just there to rage out and mosh) were just transfixed by her voice. One of the most beautiful sounds I have heard in these 48 years on this planet. When she finished the entire place erupted in cheers for her. One of my favorite concert memories.

Wow. That’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. I know and love that song and can just imagine it as you describe it.

I was a huge fan but never got a chance to see her perform.

Rest in peace dear Sinead. May you find true peace now. Thank you for all you created and your bravery.

This is just pure beautiful
💙

That's my favourite. From The Talented Mr Ripley soundtrack, it's played over the opening scene. 'From the garden of first light, to our wilderness of night, sleep now, sleep now.'

I would love to know how to get a print of this artwork?

She was a beautiful, magnificent soul. Very very sad but not completely unexpected. I pray she is now at peace.

Orders76 · 27/07/2023 00:35

Even before this, I couldn't really listen to her singing nothing compares to you, it is so sad.
I can deal with her rage and love Troy and mandinka

I have loved this woman since my teens. My heart breaks for her. A true warrior with the voice of an angel. Rest in power, Sinead xxx

Poor Sinead. Her autobiography is an amazing book and if you get the audio book she read it herself so it's very evocative. She had such a tough childhood and life and went through so much.

Haven't got that audiobook but would love it.

RIP Sinead.

Awful hearing this news today. She was a beautiful soul. So genuine, so sincere. This world was too harsh for the like of her. Her last message about her late son just over a week ago was heartbreaking.

Her voice was so good because she was honest. You weren't listening to the typical artist. She felt what she was singing. The song she performed for the magnificent Daniel Day-Lewis/Emma Thompson film, In the Name of the Father, was harrowing.

I'm genuinely upset. I really don't think she coped with the death of her son. She was already very fragile

Evieanne · 27/07/2023 02:17

She had EUPD, CPTSD and bipolar disorder too, that’s hell on earth to deal with. I hope she rests easy and God grants her paradise

Itsallinyourhead2022 · 27/07/2023 09:32

Her version of Sacrifice is hauntingly beautiful

I think Shuhada would be upset that the name being used in the news of her death is Sinead O’Connor. I understand that she was famous and known well by that name, but she strongly disliked it as she “wanted to be free of patriarchal slave names. Free of the parental curses.”

Upon conversion she stated “This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant."

She chose the name Shuhada Sadaqat meaning “witness to truth”.

As a hijabi she would be distraught that all the headline photos are of her not wearing a headscarf. This is not how she chose to present to the world. It also reeks of ageism - why are all the photos of her when she was very young? She is still very recognisable in recent photos, she was very striking mA.

Shuhada was such a strong Muslim woman who was dedicated to creating a better world and it’s like her identity is being erased and dismissed, which is very disrespectful.

May Allah honour and elevate her to the highest ranks of Jannah 🤍
